shiny resin

Jul 31, 2015

    1. I've tried to cast something with a smoother surface and I've noticed the resin is too shiny. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to give it a more matte finish?

    2. I know some give a spray of MSC, or similar, before investing to avoid a glossy finish.

    3. I THINK this is a problem when you prepare your surface TOO smooth, it gets shiny. You can fix this after casting with a very light sanding of the resin. I use sanding sponges from Volks in the two finest grits. (the higher the number, the finer the grit) Sand lightly with those, then scrub generously with a dry clean magic eraser, which is ALSO a very very VERY fine abrasive and will buff it out to a buttery but not shiny finish. You could also try treating the primed object you mean to cast with this method.

    4. Damn, that might be it. I sanded it a bit and it looks better now, but it is a pain. Maybe I'll use a lower grit on the master, thank you!
