Props Shaman's family - the dragon skull helmet - news on 03/18/2024

Feb 19, 2019

    1. Welcome on my new project journal! I know I have plenty of project journals unfinished but I like to work on different dolls. ^^'

Edit on 07/25/2023 : I comute this thread in a thread for my shaman family, not only my old shaman. He has two daughters, Nyralathotep and Aylith, and I wish to also add Aylith's lover, Oorn.

      Xolotl

This time I'm working on a Les Enfants Terribles Ryan, an quite old man head.
The head is white skin, but I blushed it grey to match the grey resinsoul body I bought for him. I'd like to make a strange old shaman, an unhuman creepy thing.

Here is the only picture I have with the head in white. It's the old man head in the middle:
What I'd like to do on Xolotl:

      Mods To Do:
      • neck mod (done)

      Aesthetics To Do:
      • faceup (finished on 02/18/2019)
      • tattoos (done on 02/28/2019)
      • manicure (done on 02/25/2019)

      Crafting To Do:
      • wig (done on 02/27/2019)
      • add a beard (done on 02/28/2019)
      • dog skull helmet : abandoned project, replaced by dragon skull helmet (in progress)
      • shaman staff (complete on 06/16/2022)

      I finished his faceup yesterday!
Here the tutorial I make (sorry for my bad english):

It's a white head that I try to dye in grey. It was a fail so I wiped the dye and try again with pastels. Firsts steps are only this : putting grey pastels on his face. I took no picture and have little to say about it. I used a mix of grey and green for the first layer (the resinsoul body I'm going to use for this head has a slightly greenish grey), and only grey for the two next layers.

      Second step :
I want him to have the upper part of the face black. I like to paint it uneven, that's why I don't use a brush but a cotton bud. I put it in the black acrylic and tap it on the forehead. I use a brush for the parts I can't paint with the cotton bud (above the eyes and on the ears).

I make two mixes of acrylic inks, one violet (scarlet + blue + water), one red (burnt sienna + scarlet + water).
With a toothbrush I apply small spots of those mix on the lower part of the face. I did it two times with each mix.

I use violet and brown pastels in the wrinkle, under the mouth, under the nose and in the mouth. I add grey pastel on the rest of the head.

I paint thin wrinkles around the eyes with black acrylic ink in the black part, and in violet in the grey part.

I paint details in the mouth, in violet and red (mix of scarlet and burnt sienna acrylic inks dilute in water).

I seal it with tamiya TS80.

      ***

I use white acylic ink dilute in water to enhance the black wrinkles under the eyes.

With a toothbrush, I apply a layer of diluted white on the liwer part of the face. After that I prepare a third mix with sepia and burnt sienna + water and apply two layers of it on the cheeks.

I enhance the details in the mouth with diluted white, then add lines in dilute black ink.

With a white pencil, I draw the motiv on the forehead and the lines on chin and around the eyes. When I'm happy with this drawing I paint them in white acrylic.

I work on the blush again, darken it with violet and brown pastels.
I add a little of red pastel on the nose and on the cheeks, then flesh pastel on the cheeks and violet under the nose.
I add brown and a little of black on the middle of both lips, and violet inside the mouth.

I seal this step with tamiya TS80.

      ****

I paint thin violet veins on the cheeks - they are hardly visible.

I use my brown mix with the toothbrush again, for one layer on his face. With the same mix, I paint some beauty spots.

I use black and brown pastels to darken the area around the nose, in the hollow cheeks and under the mouth.
I apply one white dilute with water layer with the toothbrush and I wipe the unwanted spots in the hollow cheeks.
I paint eyebrows and eyelashes in black acrylic ink. I enhance them with dilute white.

That's not a part of the faceup but I glue small part of toothpic in his nose XD

I seal it with tamiya TS80.

      Nyalathotep

Nyarlathotep is the oldest daughter. She doesn't want to follow her father's steps, and is looking for a white magic source of power. It's a Supia Naomi. Here is she before customization:

What I'd like to do on Nyarlathotep:

      Aesthetics To Do:

      • faceup (finished in 2021)
      • tattoos
      • manicure

      Crafting To Do:

      • wig (done in 2021)
      • outfit

      Aylith

Aylith is the youngest daughter. She is the worthy heir of Xolotl. Currently (on 07/2023) she only is a floating head, a supia Eunice :

What I'd like to do on Aylith:

      Aesthetics To Do:

      • faceup (in progress)
      • tattoos (later)
      • manicure (in progress)

      Crafting To Do:

      • wig (wigcap done)
      • outfit(s)

      Oorn

Oorn is not the same species than Xolotl and his daughters. He is a face stealer, and is not grey skin. He is in love with Aylith since childhood. It's a Fallen Star from Spicy flower, on DFH body :

    2. His head used to fall in the front, so I modded the inside of the neck hole. I also shortened his neck.

Here a little WIP of the neck mod:

Currently I'm working on his tattoos. It's very time consuming, even if I choose an easy style of tattoo (nordic tattoos).

I begin by drawing the design with watercolor pencils. I use brown, black and blue-green pencils:

When I'm happy with the drawing, I use a brush to gently moisten the design. I darken the colors with watercolors (black, brown and green, like the pencils). I enhance it with white watercolor:

I'm also working on his manicure. It's nearly done:

      Thank you for looking!

The same when I'm humidifying it:

    8. MAN. It's your attention to detail that makes your dolls so amazing...and that head collection is to die for!

    9. Amazing!!!! Getting some real Norwegian vibes!

    10. What do you call attention to detail? I don't feel like I did so much attention to detail on this guy! It's an easy customisation until there :)

      Thank you very much!

      ***

I finished the wig cap this morning:

It is made of 4 layers of tulle and latex.

After that I began the wig itself:

I made dreadlocks in my hands with the hair already glued on the wig:

I did it until the whole wigcap is covered.
Then I began the ornament of the wig:

      Wig and beard!

I've finished the wig and I've made the beard! The hairs for the beard are glued on the resine with glue for wood.

I wonder if I need to add more hairs on the chin...

    13. Completely creepily awesome! :D

    14. He looks AMAZING! I can't wait to see him all complete and put together :D

    15. @Jany Thank you very much!

@manatiel Thank you so much! He is nearly complete, he only miss his mask and eyes ^^
I bought eyes today, I hope they will fit him. I'll get them around one month.

    16. This is seriously dreamy :D that beard looks AMAZING! This is such a cool character!

    17. Your dolls always look so incredible! How do you keep the glue from showing? I couldn't manage it.

    18. Thank you very much ! I've add some hair on the chin, but aside that I'm pretty happy with his beard look !

Thank you so much ! I use glue for wood, it's transparent once it's dried. What kind of glue did you use ? (BTW I don't see glue on your goblin's pictures)

    19. Amazing!! The head and body look wonderful together. How are you planning to dress him? (or is he a wild nudist shaman? :wiggle) I hope his tattoos will show c:

    20. I used Mod Podge. The problem is the fact that instead of being fluffy, the hair is mostly stiff with glue.

    21. Oh man, I hadn't seen him with the beard yet, that looks incredible!!! I take it that is just cotton?

    22. wow this looks incredible! That beard :OO

    23. Thank you very much! Haha, wild nudist shaman is a great idea, I like it! For the moment he's wearing some very old clothes I've made for my very first BJD : brown pants, a red sleeveless tunic and a green cloak.

I don't know this glue. But I fear your problem is due to the scale of your doll : part of the beard is stiff with glue but not the whole of it.

Thank you very much! No, it's not cotton, it's mohair ^_^

      Thank you very much!

I've begun the longest part of this customization : the dog skull helmet :)

    24. Nice! The zygomatic arch is starting to look really good :D

    25. The beard and wig really make the look. He is stunning! Certainly the wizened shaman that would put a fright in me

    26. It all looks awesome so far, thank you for sharing this! :3nodding:
      Definitely one to follow.

    27. He's AWESOME!! So much lovely attention to detail!

    28. This is great! I love that you describe all the steps to your faceup. And your collection of heads is very impressive! Who is the guy with the removable part that reveals a cyborg looking area?

    29. You really made the beard look great, and that's hard on a bjd! Really well done, and like all your dolls wonderfully painted.

    30. He's amazing! Your depth of shadows and detail make him so life-like! Thank you for sharing this progress. Can't wait to see the dog helmet - that's going to be fantastic considering the job you did on the old man!

    31. Thank you ! :)

Thank you for your kind comment !

You're welcome ! Thank you for the compliment.

      Thank you very much !

      Thank you !
The guy with cyborg area is an Another Secret I'm.

Thank you very much for your kind comment ! :aheartbea

Thank you ! I didn't work on the dog helmet since march... I need to do it !

    32. What an absolute work of art. The face-up and tattoos are incredible!

    33. That project is breathtaking I love the scary atmosphere he is sending with his look

    34. A long time after, thank you for your kind comment!

      Thank you so much! :)

I gave up on the dog skull. It was not well begun (to thick) and I never continued it. But! I began two years ago a dragon skull helmet that I wish to cast in resin in the end. And it is the right size for my shaman, and the right style too.

      Here are some progress pictures!

      The very beginning:

I was too eager and added some teeth and a jaw, but both were badly done. I removed the teeth and I will redo the jaw.

And how it looks like one day ago:

Currently without teeth. I made the muzzle longer and sanded it a lot. I also added details once sanded.

I'm also working on the horns:

I will cry on the second horn, I think. Symmetry is hard to achieve.

And how it currently looks like on my doll head:

    35. While the Dragon skull is at the same point, I've begin an other prop for my shaman. A shaman staff!
I used two pieces of stick, one in apple tree, the other I'm not sure (I've found it while I was walking) but maybe lime tree. I put them together with milliput paste, painted the milliput, added some feathers and thread... and now I'm making a little skull to put on it!

      Here are some pictures:

    37. This is spectacular! The way you manage to combine the natural found materials and handmade parts is amazing, not to forget about your painting skills that make him look soooo otherworldly! :D Can't wait to see him finished!

    38. Shaman stuff struck me. Looks incredibly realistic and full size. Also I like runes in it. Did you choose them chaotic or by their meanings?

    39. This project looks amazing! I love all of the little details, you can tell so much about him just by looking.

    41. Thank you so much for your kind comment! :)

Thanks a lot for your warm comment!

Well it's totally chaotic. On the staff, I mean, because on his tattoos it is part of a poem if I remember well, but I don't remember which one exactely :XD:

      Thank you very much!

Thank you! I wanted to make him a beard since I bought his head, but I didn't think he will become such a long-term project.

The small skull for his staff is nearly finished! I need to varnish it, I will try to do it tomorrow.
I've discuss of this character with a friend, and we decided that this skull is from my shaman's first born son. Xolotl sacrified him in order to be granted great powers and a long life. So the skull - and staff- has a name, the name of Xolotl's child : Yig.

I glued the skull askew. It wasn't what I wanted but finally it looks more, well, real maybe? So I let it that way.

    43. Big up on this thread! I decided to add Xolotl's daughters, Nyarlathotep and Aylith on it. And also Aylith's lover, Oorn.

Nyarlathotep is a Supiadoll Naomi in grey skin, with ballerina 60 body.

I made her faceup and wig in 2021, but she is still lacking manicure and tattoos:

      Here is she :

Currently I'm waiting for her sister's body, a supia original 60 girl body, but with double jointed arms.

I also got Aylith's lover body in may. I made his faceup and manicures, and also his wig.
Oorn is a Fallen Star by Spicy Flower on DFH 60cm v5 body.

Here are WIP pictures of the faceup and manicures:

And here is he with wig:

I want to craft him many masks for the faces he stole (he's a face stealer). He needs his body blush too, and surely tattoos but I don't know which kind yet.

    46. Thank you so much! Sadly, with my bad english and my not-high-talent for writing, it's going to be hard for me to tell a lot about them! In resume, Xolotl had three children. A boy, Yig, that he sacrified in order to gain power (it's Yig's skull on Xolotl's staff, and that's why the staff is also called Yig), and two girls, Nyarlathotep and Aylith. Nyarlathotep disagreed with her father's path, and left her parents' home in order to find a white magic source of power. Aylith is fine with her father's way of doing things, so she stays. But some time after Nyarlathotep's departure, Aylith is killed by a monsters killer. Xolotl uses his powers to keep her body intact (as much as we can keep a body with fallen head intact ^^') and calls his oldest daughter back home to find together a way to resurrect Aylith.
Nyarlathotep will find an ancient god to bring her sister's body back to life (in exchange of one of the god's ennemy's eyes) and will conceive a child with Aylith's lover, Oorn, in order to give the child to a Necromancer, in exchange of Aylith's soul. Then both Xolotl and Oorn will take revenge on the monster killer.

      That's the plot :XD:

      Thank you so much! :D

I got Aylith's body last summer! But didn't begin her faceup before my vacation last month ^^'

Here are pictures of the begining and the current state of her faceup and manicure:

    47. I made Aylith's wig. I'm quite happy with the result even if hair is a little messy:

Faceup is still unfinished, but now that the wig is made, I know which colors I need to use for the eyebrows ^_^

    48. Quick news! It's been more than a year that I didn't give news of the dragon skull helmet. Why I wanted to do a lower jaw?!

Still a lot of work needed. Horns attachments and lower jaw are far from ready.
