Contest Shadow Faceup [Customizing]

Can an entry include a heavy modification or must it just be surface coloring?

 

Modifications are often part of face-up work, so that's okay! Please do make sure to include in your submission a description of what was modified and how you did it if it is part of the work done for the contest.
If a doll being used for the face-up happened to be modified before the contest, that should be noted as well, so that it is not considered part of the customizing done for the contest theme.

I have started my Faceup! I was actually wondering what I was going to do with the extra head I got during the sales promotion, so this is just perfect! XD

 

Can't wait to start on this; not interested in winning, just very inspired by this contest! :]

 

I've started and nearly completed my face-up! I'm really excited - I know my entry won't be good enough to win but I'm proud of how it's turning out and MY GOD is it fun! I haven't entered a contest in forever, I'm having a blast

Okay, ready to submit my entry now so I'm just going to test a couple of things: I'm trying to make my photobucket account private so I can upload the pics to there and then I'll switch the URL so it's not got my username in it any more but I just want to check I can still link to pics from a private folder

Edit: I can! I used a non-contest picture for testing Righto, off to sort out the real deal then, yay!

No need to worry about revealing photo info, as I will be renaming each entry with a generic number and uploading it to the server.

Yep, there's spaces on the form for you to put your photos and explain your inspiration etc

 

So am I allowed to upload the picture to devianart or flickr because I am unsure of how you upload pictures to doa without uploading them threw another source

 

I used a private folder on my Photobucket account - as long as you can prevent the picture from being seen by anyone (I don't know how flickr works but you definitely wouldn't be able to use dA) before the end of the contest then you should be okay. Photobucket is free, or there's tinypic and probably some others as well, but I don't know them

 

You can upload your photos to Flickr if is is a private folder. Uploading your photos to a location that can be viewed by the public, or your circle of friends will result in disqualification because your entry will no longer be anonymous. If you don't have a photobucket account, starting one now would be a good way to ensure that your entry remains secret.

 

I have just one more question... I feel kind of dumb but, I am unsure of how to make my pictures 600x400 without editing it :\ Does that count as photo editing ?

 

Resizing your photos is okay! By editing we mean don't Photoshop additional makeup effects onto the head or otherwise alter what you'd see if you were looking at the doll in real life.

Well I have an idea, but I'm no where good as some of the face up artists here @_@ Worth a shot though. I think I'd just enjoy painting my interpretation of "shadow" enough to not care about winning. I can use a new technique that I want to use for a doll I'm waiting for. Perfect!

Glad to hear you are thinking about participating! I think that playing within the limitations of a design challenge is always good practice, regardless of skill level. And we are getting entries from all skill levels, so fear not!
I am hoping I'll have a little time to do a face-up too, just for fun.

 

Oh darn.

I made a pretty sketch of what I wanted to do for this contest (amused myself and the nurses with it for days at work). I brought it home, I swear, I remember putting the friggin' slip of paper into my bag. And now I can't find it I had an impromptu cleaning frenzy in the meantime, so I fervently hope that I didn't accidentally trash the paper...

Now I have chaos in my room (again) and a missing sketch, and no time to redo it.

 

I submitted my entry, but I find I'm more excited to see what others have done, rather than how I do in the contest! It's so exciting with all the great artists here on DoA! ^_^

 

I know how you feel! I keep checking to see when the voting period starts cause I'm excited and I want to see all the entries It feels like SUCH a long time!! I'd love to win but I don't even mind if I don't cause it was fun taking part and it's great to see so much awesome work I loved seeing all the entries last year so much ^___^

 

Agreed. I don't want to change any of my dolls' face-ups right now, and I have no floating heads, so I'm really looking forward to voting for this one. So many really spiffy possibilities!

As per the contest description, voting does not begin until the 22nd. But I'm on my home from work now, and I'll be prepping all of the entry photos first thing after dinner! Still bummed that I didn't get a chance to play and do a face-up, but this has been one of the craziest months on record for me. @___@
