So My doll Alexis has been in need of some new clothes for a good decade as I've only recently gotten him down from the shelf, and gotten back into BJD's myself relitavly recently. I knitted him some sweaters to keep him going and he looked adorable in them, but I really wanted something high fantasy, as I had an idea for a story and photostory to go with it. My concept was some kind of robes, something with a simple base, but lots to play around with for variance, with an under robe with fancy sleaves, and an outer robe with no sleeves and open at the front. I also wanted to use my embroidery skills to bring some fancy uniqueness to it as well. So first the under robe! I cut out two tunic pieces, basically as you would for a Tee shirt, then two circles for the upper sleeve for fullness, then I wanted something to put the embroidery on, so I did two long rectangles as long as the circumference of the circles and got to work with a simple rose vine and moth motif. I was hoping not to have to do a lining for this garment, but, alas, the backing of it was a mess of embroidery thread, so I did for these panels. I then realised that my sewing machine is broken, so when it came to putting this piece together, we had to rely on hand stitching. I was a little intimidated by this point at the idea of hand stitching the whole garment, but once I got going, I had it done in a day. These are not great pics as I've not had a chance to take him anywhere outside for the good lighting as the weather is currently horrible, but good pics will follow. As will the next layer of robe!
Very nice. I don't have the patience for much emboridery, so I find it particularly impresive when others go down that route. Teddy
Looks incredible! The embroidery is beautiful, and I love the big dramatic sleeves. Can’t wait to see how the outer robe turns out!
Ooooh could you post a pattern? Because I love this idea and hand stitching is all I am good at (not embroidery though).
This is so beautiful! I love how it turned out, and I adore your concept of the fancy sleeves being visible from underneath the sleeveless layer! It looks fantastic, can't wait to see more pieces come together!
