@PoeticSoul What a neat suit! I love how the lace shirt and the suit jacket and pants go together. And yeah, wow, that fabric really is something when it's sewn up into a project! @Mamo @Teddy I feel that on the gathers. I used to avoid any project that had gathering in it because it was such a pain. And I'm not even one who pins everything out! That pinafore is adorable, though, and the gingham dress there is so cute. I'm wrapping up the month with a couple basic stashbuster gathered rectangle skirts. I bought the blue lace fabric thinking it'd make a cute skirt but it needed to be folded in half to get the right length; it was finished all around and if there's one thing about me, it's that I'm too lazy to not use a preexisting finished edge! The printed one I was originally stashing to use in a lolita skirt for Clover, but then I realized it was already sewn together at one end and figured eh. I'll just gather it and make a poofy miniskirt for her. Maybe she's not always in the full lolita getup mood. Emphasis on "poofy" and "miniskirt" though. I'm a little surprised her underwear is relatively covered, and I might have to do the "soak and let dry" trick to get the fabric to hang down. Right now it's only pinned by her tail, I could practically use the darn thing as a scrunchie.
It looks very sweet standing out around her like that. Perhaps she just needs some knickers that are too fancy not to be a little visible like these : https://vintagesewingpatterncompany.com/cdn/shop/products/S3296_1500x.jpg?v=1640025143 Teddy
@JaxxCapta Utilizing the finished edge of lace is always a great idea because it makes excellent use of a lace’s overall design, and therefore nothing is lost. (That’s a truly lovely lace design for a skirt, by the way.) And that patterned mini skirt is so adorable on your girl! The length looks so good on her, and she’s a bunny so something cute and carefree certainly suits her.
@JaxxCapta While I think you are probably right that the miniskirt could benefit from the "soak and let dry" trick, I think Teddy is on to something with something fancy to wear underneath as well. Speaking as someone who has spent a fair share of my life in short and sometimes very poofy skirts, having something underneath that isn't too much of a disater to accidentally flash, highly elevates the comfort level of the outfit. For myslef, while I haven't been super active here in the thread, I have been working on the embroidery of the old troll coat that has been posted here and there in the past. And while I am still not completely finished, it is coming along. All that is left is a bit of fill-in along the lower edge. A few more focused sessions and that should be it. Then I just need to make him the rest of his outfit... He still only have a single under garment except for the coat. But I have the fabric for his tunic, so it's mostly just a matter of actually making it.
Thanks Teddy! I am taking my time, partly because it's a nice project and I enjoy working on it, as backwards as that may seem.
Makes perfect sense to me that you'd want to take your time and savour something you really like. Teddy
@Lillith Oooooh…that’s coming along beautifully! Your embroidery is so amazing, and your troll is a fascinating character who truly deserves that level of work.
Thanks! I will get it done, eventually. I hope. Thank you. I feel he deserves it, too. I just can't bring myslef to rush it. And, one common trait of trolls in folk lore is that they are supernaturally skilled craftsmen, so if he made his own clothes they realy should be well made.
Well it looks a little frumpy all splayed out like this, but I'm on the home stretch! Just the back edges, strap finishes, and the decorative waist tie left to sew into place! I had plenty of the little lace so I thought I'd add the little bow, give it a bit of extra interest. It turned out great! I'm really pleased, and I can't wait to try it out on her. I think I'll wait to do the final fit test on my SD girl once the straps are in place. I've been working in small increments to keep it from turning into a chore, I've got two days to get my act together and actually make it over the finish line. Round 130 Pinafore, almost done! by Jules B, on Flickr
@Leo Pheonix , the mystical outfit is great! The sculls shirt! The zodiac signs and golden lining of the cloak! It may have been long in the making, but it came together very well. The starry pajamas look really cosy. And congratulations on the snaps, your girls look splendid in those dresses. @Mamo , lovely dress, looking forward to see it finished with the trim and ruffles. @PoeticSoul Oh, I love, love, love your new romantics outfit! Especially the shirt collar and of course the pattern and color combination. Barrio is looking splendid. @Lillith , your troll is a familiar face from previous rounds. He must be happy to get clothes at last . And such nice clothes at that. The knotwork patterned embroidery looks very good and in character. I've also been busy and also tried out a new lightbox to take pictures: Black tiered dress+vest by helgie, on Flickr The dark red west with the dress from November 2022 round. cream tunic - finished by helgie, on Flickr Finished the cream tunic I showed earlier, and added leggings. The tunic is somewhat puffy after I ironed it, I think it would look better if I just put it on Anwen wet and let it dry. The leggings came out well, I now have a working pattern for them. Bohemian by helgie, on Flickr Added a top layer to the bohemian outfit from March 2022. I made the brown sleeveless dress back in 2022, and started sewing the top layer but if I remember correctly, stalled out at the sleeves. Now the outfit fits the initial design. The skirt would lie better if it were wider, but that was the widest scrap of this fabric available and I didn't want to add seams. The material is synthetic, so I happily melted all edges with a lighter against shedding, including the uneven edges of the skirt and sleeves that are cut following the pattern of the fabric. Except for the pink pajama set from the beginning of the month, all items were sewed by hand. I feel ready to switch to something else, maybe will make Anwen some shoes.
All these projects are really gorgeous ! I have been so tired and busy this month, I couldn't sew anything.
@helgie Wow, you have been producive! Anwen is also a familliar face. She is a very lucky doll to have such a warderobe, she must have lovely selection by now.
@helgie How wonderful to finish up these projects, and those little touches of subtle embroidery are fabulous! Anwen is a very lucky young lady indeed.
Well I only had 7 minutes in the month left to spare by the time she was fully dressed and the pics were taken, but It's done! And I love it, I'm so pleased! It makes me want to take her outside for some garden photos Round 130 Pinafore, complete! by Jules B, on Flickr If I were to do it again I think I'd put the waist lace above the seam rather than below, it sort of turned it into a drop waist by accident lol. But Spoiler: Detail and Back shots Round 130 Pinafore, complete! by Jules B, on Flickr I am completely in love with how the little bow turned out!! I'm really happy I was able to get the ends to lie splayed outward and also get some good volume on the bow itself. Round 130 Pinafore, complete! by Jules B, on Flickr The cinching is a bit mushed/haphazard in the back due to all the bulk back there, but it doesn't look that bad all things considered! I'll take it. I really dragged myself to getting this done absolutely kicking and screaming, for whatever reason I just wasn't feeling it this time around. Which usually that means it's time for a break and doing other hobby stuff instead, so we'll see what I get up to next round!
@helgie thank you so much!! It really came together nicely, and that's not the only thing that did! Your work is always a joy to see, and I'm especially impressed by your flame fraycheck job on those zigzag pieces! It looks phenomenal and you're braver than I am for sure!!
@Mamo Congratulations for coming in under the wire! She looks completely adorable in her new dress (her sculpt is such a sweet one, by the way.) Great job! And the latest round for February is now up: /threads/sew...ck-visual-kei-new-romantics-round-131.876908/
@PoeticSoul that is one well tailored suit! @Lillith the embroidery is looking incredible so far! He's going to be a very well dressed troll when you are finished. @helgie great additions to Anwen's wardrobe!
