I decided to finish the longstanding projects first, because I realized I've now had these in the works for over a year! So Coriana is gonna be my model again this round, with a waist cincher and a dress on the docket for June. I plan to finish the cincher with ribbon ties to make it work for the different propotions I've got in my collection. With the ties and edges finished, it'll be done! The dress on the other hand needs a top seam, back seams, and snaps, so I'm submitting my application to the Adding Snaps Finally Club too Round 123 Unfinished Business, pinned! by Jules B, on Flickr Everybody's work is looking fantastic! We're on a roll
The cincher is functional! It ended up a bit too loose, I made my back seams too small, but hopefully it'll look better layered over some stuff! I've got her in a crop top and leggings right now for ease of fit testing. Round 123 cincher! by Jules B, on Flickr Spoiler: Back detail I have a TON of ribbon but it's still packed up from the move somewhere, so I just used what I could find in the craft organizer. Ended up being these cute purple ribbons from doll packaging! I like the combo of the green and the purple, it gives it some whimsy Round 123 cincher! by Jules B, on Flickr
So I scrapped the dress idea when I got my new Blythe. I love Bohemian ponchos! I modified an A-Line dress pattern and will be using it to make a little poncho for one of my 1/6 girls. (It could easily work as a vest too.) I made a little mock up/practice piece and included the poncho that inspired me. My plan is to adjust the fit (A-Line dresses are awesome that way) and modify the measurements. I'm surprised how much mileage I've gotten out of this one pattern. It's super easy to resize!
Oh, I almost forgot to check in! Here's my progress on my chocolate mint top. Sleeves were, um, unsuccessful but, at least it's kinda symmetrical. I'll accept that I bit off more than I could chew as a beginner I can always try again after getting more practice. And trying to visualize the wrap around thing. I don't know how I feel about the length of this flouncy thing so I shall stare at it for a bit. Nor if I should add any choco details to it or leave it plain. It will evolve as I go Thank goodness my model can't protest and I can just play around. Although she's looking a bit judgy after all the times I've wiggled her head on and off. wip top by Novalyna Kong, on Flickr Everyone's works are looking super amazing! I aspire to reach y'all's level one day You are all so talented.
They look OK to me, Nobody will know they weren't what you inteneded if you don't poit it out to them. Good luck figuring out where you want to go with it. Teddy
@Novalyna Now that’s such a cute outfit! I like the sleeves…they go well with that little flounce. And I think your doll looks self-assured rather than judgy, like she’s reveling in the uniqueness of her outfit. It has tons of personality!
I've got one seam left to finish on the dress!! Then all I have to do is decide on the strap placement and add snaps in the back. I whip-stitched the straps then pressed them flat to cut down on the bulk! Really looking forward to showing the finished dress off, and trying it and the cincher out with other pieces I've made! @Novalyna she's looking so cute!! I love your mint chocolate chip theme. @Moonycat31 how cute!! And so impressive to get such a tiny hat to come to a nice point like that! I finished the dress last night! I'm really happy with how it turned out. In a bit I want to try on a few different things together, but I also want to keep my sewing momentum going - I'm feeling inspired for a little vest! I have a few scraps of a light, sunny yellow lying around that might even be enough to make another skirt AND a vest! Round 123 dress, finished! by Jules B, on Flickr
Well. For some reason DoA stopped giving me notifications for this channel and I forgot I was working on this project. Started an entirely different one, haha! But I'll switch back to this one now that I remember it's going on, and hopefully have an update on my progress tomorrow.
I got the vest cut! I'm having trouble deciding which texture I like best for the outside. At first I thought I'd go with the little nibs, but the reverse that has the crosshatching is growing on me.... I think I might stick to the nibbed side, since it's more noticeably textured than the reverse, which looks more like a pattern at a distance. I used the same pattern I did for the last vest I made since it looked so nice on her, the Mori Girl Set by DollCandy! I think the dress might have been the tunic from this pattern as well, looking at it again. Round 123 bonus: vest! by Jules B, on Flickr What's funny about this project is, this scrap is a sleeve cut off of a human cardigan that I bought to turn it into a human sized vest! We'll match
Thanks everyone. I really love seeing all these cool projects coming to life. ^^ Everyone have such great ideas. =) @Mamo I must confess it was very difficult to make this tiny hat. XD But happy it turned well. ^^
@Mamo Her dress turned out so cute, and it’s certainly a lovely fit. Well done! It will be so interesting to see whatever you decide to pair it with. That fabric for the vest is certainly quite interesting…I’m really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
I am now where I was yesterday, except with a sleeve that will fit, haha. I cut out a new cuff (with regular fabric scissors because who the heck knows where my pinking shears ended up) and honestly lined up the gathers way better than my last attempt. I'm not a morning person and work pretty late some nights, but this is some good progress for half an hour of hand sewing in the dark.
I made a little more progress with my project, but I'm a bit stumped with the collar part. The instructions just say to sew collar along bodice at C, but not if it's good side to good side or not, which it usually notes for each step. Would I just sew the whole thing (a folded rectangle) good-to-good on top and then fold it over and press? Or is there some special method for collars. I don't want to mess it up and have to re-sew and re-iron everything again! The collars are supposed to end up like this: (in spoiler) Spoiler: what it should look like
Well done! I am a morning person but have a getting-started peroblem that result sin ity generally being VERY late in the day before I get around to working on anything I plan, so I have to fight against my natural inclination to retire to bed if i want to get any progress made. It LOOKS like you need to fold it lengthways (probably finishing the short end first - fold it right sides togehter, sew the short end, clip the corner, turn through, and press once right-sides-out... unless it states otherwidse in the instructions) then sew it right-sides-together to the collar edge of the bodice. That's how I'd do it if I were faced with making that garment without instructions at any rate. Teddy
Finished Jaala's dress, so here's some delayed photos. I was working from a pattern book that only has very general instructions, so figuring out how to put it together was a bit of a challenge. Fortunately I had enough of the white lace for both the arm holes and skirt flounces. I think it looks great with her silver hair. In progress- And finished-
@Leo Pheonix You did such a wonderful job on this and it looks absolutely stunning with your girl’s coloring! I love that print…so subtle and beautiful. And that trim is perfect, making the most adorable little sleeves too. Your girl looks great in it!
Got the vest together! I'll be finishing the edges and then considering if I want to decorate it once it's done! Round 123 bonus vest progress by Jules B, on Flickr
I was finally able to complete my “slow stitching” for this outfit. All that’s left now is sewing it all together…and perhaps making a floral hair accessory to match.
Nice. Beautiful work, as ev er, It will be even more lovely once its sewn together and on the doll. Teddy
This month has kept me busy, but later today I might actually have time to work on my hand sewing project. Not sure I'll get much if anything done before the month is over, but I managed to get the kind of fabric I wanted today. So I can at least start working on a replacement for Bowsette's scrap dress. Goal for tonight is to at least start. Also everyone's projects are looking good. (Notifications for this thread somehow turned off so spend a bit catching up just now)
Good luck! I've worked on mine only in fits and starts (a bit more today on my commute to the offfice) so whether I reach an end point for any of it by the end of the month is anybody's guess. I might take it along to pass the time during a car journey (to and from a friend's funeral, unfortunately) tomorrow, as the hand work is all small, easy work like hooks and thread bars. Teddy
Sorry, I've been away for a few weeks and I'm just getting caught up now! Everyone's work looks amazing! @PoeticSoul Absolutely stunning! @Teddy I'm sorry for your loss, but I'm glad you're making progress! @Mamo You've gotten a lot checked off your list! Well done! @Leo Pheonix All that silver and lace looks lovely together! I'm sorry, I know I missed some of you by name, but I'm proud of everyone who has accomplished their goals this month, and if you haven't yet, well just keep trying. Completed School Uniform !by Prairie Night, on Flickr I finished Norah Mae's school uniform today! I wasn't sure if I would complete it in time, but I did, and she's all set for fall now. I wish I had bought materials for this instead of just using what I had to hand, but it is what it is. This is the longer length skirt (I made the shorter one as my practice version), and I made all 3 lengths of socks. I don't care for the thigh-high version with this pattern because it's more like above-the-knee, so when she sits down, it drops below the knee. If I make them again, I will extend them higher. The pair she's wearing in the photo are the "ankle" length, just for perspective. I also made the tie, but it really didn't work with the fabric I had chosen. The pattern included instructions to make a tie with ribbon, which worked a lot better, but the ribbon I had here was the wrong width, and didn't work under the collar, so I didn't use it in the picture. The sweater would also be cute with a crest, or school letter on it. This was my first Monthly Sewing Project, and I really enjoyed it! I can't wait to participate next month! I've got a couple new patterns that I'm really excited about, and I'm really interested in focusing on late Victorian and Edwardian clothing for her in the future, so if anyone can point me in the direction of those types of things, specifically patterns for what a teenage girl would wear, I would REALLY appreciate it. I think there are some specific threads for this, but I'm not sure which ones would be most helpful. Any advice? Thanks!
@Gaiagrrrl Norah Mae is looking fantastic! She's ready to present her research project, ready for Model UN!!! Absolutely superb work, I can't wait to see what you make next round!
Thank you! That means a lot, considering each of those fabrics was nightmarish to work with! Hopefully next month goes alright. The pattern I've chosen is in Japanese, so first I have to get it printed on larger paper, and then I have to go through it bit by bit with Google Translate to copy down the words in English. That may take some time. Fortunately, there are lots of photos.
No photos to show yet, however I made some progress tonight. I am free-handing a once piece swimsuit as could not find a pattern for in any of my saved ones. (either those on the PC or the paper ones in the drawer for such things.) I kind of suck at pattern making from scratch, but after few tries have something that is so far so good. It's very basic, but it's so far nicer then the temp dress it's replacing. I hopefully will get to finish it on Thursday or Friday and once again be king of the last minute finish of a project. XD
@Gaiagrrrl That looks absolutely wonderful, and she looks so cute in it too! Every bit the school girl! Excellent work, and we’re certainly looking forward to seeing what you do in future rounds. It’s truly great having you join us. @Tippetarius You can do it! And you’re not alone…I’m coming down the home stretch myself this month. Today I’ll be designing a matching hair accessory to match the story robe I just completed yesterday, so I’m stretching towards the finish line right along with you!
Vest is coming along! I'm finishing the edge now, and then it'll be time for some embroidery! I'm hoping to get the vest finished up today, and then show off the full outfit! Round 123 bonus vest almost done! by Jules B, on Flickr
Well it seems like a new project but it's not a real new project lol. I have this idea in mind since so many months. ^^' It's for a 1/6 ABS girl (off topic). She is a witch ans needs a dress wich fit her. ^^ I took a lovely dress's pattern from Lomi's playground and I started to cut the fabric. Don't know if I will finish before the end of this month (very bad health again...) but I have all the pieces. =)
I kept lurking here enjoying everyone's projects and making little progress myself. But Anwen's outfit still got a belt and then I strongarmed myself into sewing trousers and also socks: Blue robes - with belt by helgie, on Flickr The outfit needs boots, arm guards and an outer robe, but at least all the existing pieces are finished. I was continually distracted by new ideas, and am closing the round of unfinished business with more projects started and planned, including an idea for next month. I just hope this creative streak holds on for a while
@Moonycat31 good luck! Give yourself plenty of time to rest, and remember that these projects are supposed to be fun. Don't force yourself! @helgie it turned out gorgeously! The belt is really wonderful, it looks fantastic! I love the layering.
Well this might be a first for me, a couple of firsts even! First time I ever actually succeeded in making a full outfit in one round, the first time I tried embroidery, and the first time I really feel like I nailed what I had in mind in the execution. So here she is with her new dress, waist cincher, vest, and headband! Round 123 complete outfit! by Jules B, on Flickr I embroidered vines using this tutorial, though without a hoop. Then I knotted the end of some different embroidery floss to make the centers on the bead clasper flower and attach it! And I had a scrap of the scrap saved, which reminded me of a headband, so I sewed a bit of elastic to either end to make one and put a flower on that too! Spoiler: Detail shots Round 123 complete outfit! by Jules B, on Flickr vest, with just the vines. It was cute, but it felt like it was missing something... Round 123 complete outfit! by Jules B, on Flickr But while rummaging around for a needle big enough to fit the floss, I found these bead claspy things I've had for ages! And it was perfect. Round 123, ready for adventure! by Jules B, on Flickr With some of my other projects from previous rounds and a few premade accessories, Coriana's looking ready for adventure! I'm really proud of what I accomplished this round. It's a great reminder that a nice dolly wardrobe is built one piece at a time, and it doesn't have to happen overnight! Thank you everybody for always cheering me on, and I think it's time to take a few days off and enjoy "my" new outfit!
Congratulations on all your firsts! I would never have known it was your first try at embroidery because it looks great! I like your addition of the bead things, too. They make perfect little flowers. Well done! @helgie Speaking of embroidery, your belt turned out beautifully. I really admire the attention to detail so many of you show in your work! @Moonycat31 Don't worry if you don't finish your new project in the next couple days! You've already completed an amazing outfit for your circus girl, and that's certainly enough to be proud of! Take care, and feel better! @PoeticSoul Thank you so much! That's high praise, coming from you, and I really appreciate it! Everyone has been so helpful, supportive, and kind, and I'm so grateful I found this group to participate in! Thanks!
@Gaiagrrrl @Mamo Thanks. ^^ I have many projects in mind and it's just frustrating to be able to do nothing. >< I hope I will be better next month. :/
@Moonycat31 Good for you to give it a try! Having the pieces cut out is a major part of the battle, and it’s a great fabric too! @helgie That belt is just perfect! It looks so good, and the trousers look wonderful with this outfit. Well done! @Mamo Yes indeed! You total nailed it! The embroidery really sets her outfit off perfectly. And I’ve slipped in under the wire too…hooray! Poetta’s story robe, telling the tale of “the Old Woman’s Flower Garden”, is finally done!
This is brilliantly exquisite! I love all the texture and layering on this piece. It's seriously mind-blowing, and truly a work of art. Do you always use the same dress under your story robes? Do you have a picture of that dress you can share? I would like to see it because it looks beautiful too. I love that old, faded pulled-out-of-a-trunk-in-the-attic look.
Yay! It's so nice to see everyones projects coming together in this round! I got no sewing odne on the drive to and from the funeral yesterday, and only a couple of hooks sewn on while reminiscing with friends during the wake, but still a bit of progress is still progress, and it was a lovely funeral (as far as funerals go) in woodland attended by masses of like-minded weirdos. Teddy
Congratulations on everyone's accomplishments this month! I wasn't able to finish the shirt this month due to shifting my focus between different projects. Most of my time was spent trying and failing to do a faceup I really really want my boy to have a finished look, but I'm still dealing with the learning curve of it all. It's all going to take time, and need to try to be more patient. As far as sewing progress goes, I've sewn the backing, added a pleat, and completed the top stitching for a finished look. I'm quite pleased with it! Here's the inside. All nice and clean! And some photos with my handsome model Things left to do: (X) Add the sleeves with plackets and cuffs (X) Add a breast pocket (X) Trim, hem, and finish the front of the garment (X) Add buttons for realism Goals for next month
I'm sewing a bit more on my project tonight, wont likely finish it tonight, but likely over the weekend will get it done. So once finished I'll post a better late then never photo.
At least ti's looking good as the work is moving along on it, and it will get done at some point. Good luck this weekend - I might get a biut more done on mine too.. possibly Teddy
Everyone's projects are looking so nice! I haven't found much time to work on mine lately so I've overshot the month (again), but I'll definitely finish this one eventually, even if it's gonna take me another whole month. I'm planning to set aside the collar and do the skirt instead for now. I might do some practice collars before doing the final collar, too. If I manage to finish everything within a week or two I'll post a finished pic!
