Wearables Sewing Project: Theater/Masquerade [ Round 156 ]

Mar 1, 2026

    1. How does this work?

Every round, you try to make one complete outfit (or more) that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to it (feel free to be creative in your interpretation!) These projects are here to inspire your sewing and creativity. During the four weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other.

NOTE: Sewing Project is free for anyone to join whenever they want. New faces are always welcome at anytime during the round.

This is the month to explore flights of fancy…to let your doll become anything and everything they (and you) wish. Do you see them enacting a part from a favorite theater production or fitting in as an extra on a beloved movie set? Or perhaps they’d rather attend a fancy dress ball or a mysterious carnival. It’s time for them to take the stage. Their choice is yours!;)

      Week 1: 3/1 to 3/7
      * Pick a doll and post their name, sculpt and picture
      * Decide what you want to make and post a description or inspiration images
      * If you use pre-made patterns, decide on which ones to use
      * If you make your own patterns, get started on that.

If you have trouble finding or making your patterns, ask for help in the thread!

      Week 2: 3/8 to 3/15
      * Buy or get done with your patterns
      * Gather your materials (fabrics, notions etc.) and post a picture/pictures of them!
      * Get started with the sewing and post progress pictures!

Week 3 and 4: 3/16 to the end of March
      * Try to get the whole outfit done!
      * If you have time left over, make some accessories!

When you are done, make sure to post a picture of the completed outfit, if possible on the doll!

      Coming rounds:

      [ Round 157 ] Unfinished Business
      [ Round 158 ] Pick a Decade

    2. Another new round already?! How did the last month go so fast? I know it's the shortyest month but even so...

    3. Oh man I have a dress I want to make that would work for this, but not the time to work on it this month :pout::...(

    4. I'm torn between keeping things simple with Annie theme or creating something more elaborate for one of my dolls. Decisions, decisions!

As I write this, I realize that my Peakswood Rosemii needs something special. Although I've sewn for her before, the result was beneath her status lol. I might opt to create something beautiful for her instead, if I can manage to achieve it. I'll post more later. ❤️

Ok heres my inspiration but obviously I dream better than I sew but something similar to this will be my expectation of myself. Now I need to find materials. ;)

    6. I’m in this month with a couple of my dolls, both of whom are due for a new wrestling costume. One is my female wrestler Lotus Kai (Luts SD JuHee) and the other is my enroute male wrestler Zen Dango (Elfdoll Mir.) They will both be needing fancy stage entrance kimonos…but first things first, I’ll be doing their in-ring gear to be worn underneath that. She’ll be needing a full body leotard with cutout sections, and he’ll be needing a pair of high-waisted pants (and hopefully a faceup too!)

      The fabric: fuchsia spandex!

    8. Thank you so much, I always set the bar high but seem to fall short, but I’ll never give up trying though! ❤️

Oh nice, something much different then the normal attire for bjd’s. I’m always impressed with your outfits and I’m sure these will be epic! ❤️

    9. I always get excited about these rounds and this one definitely is going to be challenging to myself (they all are lol) so I’m getting ahead and already picked the materials and whatnots I’d like to use. These are subject to change as I go along but I’m happy with the choices. I don’t have a picture of Alice so I’m replacing it with a cat. Also, it’s hard to see in my picture but there is some flower material that I’m hoping to add to the decorative parts of the outfit.

    10. QUESTION: How do you sew angles? The underpants slope to a V at the top and I need to have enough down fold to add elastic.

Answered: lol never mind I figured it out after 3 failed attempts! It’s not possible, well at least for me so I’m starting plan B ;)

Also, kudos to anyone who can sew with black material, black bobbin thread and main thread! This was my first time and after this it will be my last.

    11. Aerith has a perfect outfit for this theme: the Loveless Songstress costume. It has the bonus of being relatively simple as well, since I'm not going to worry about recreating the detailing on the side of the skirt. My plan is to make a more structured underlayer by adapting this pattern, and then make the top layer in chiffon. I'll see how much progress I can make this month.

    12. New Even though it’s still the first week, my inspiration has so many pieces that I’m having to work extra hard at getting it all finished by the end of the month. I may even need to shop for some materials I can’t seem to find here as of yet. I was wanting to post my progress and just note that the socks are too short so I will be redoing them. I also am using my Peakswoods Red as the model until the end. I added progress pictures to this post. ;)

    13. New I do not have time to take part in this for a while, but I love the theme and can't wait to see what people come up with.

What an awesome start! i really love the pintucks in the bodice…what a great design element.:) This is all so wonderful I can’t wait to see what you do next.

Thank you so much, I wished I’d used my wider double needle but the result looks cute this way. I worked SO hard at patience and tried to do the best I could. The bodice was the hardest because I was determined to get the sleeves in between the top layer and lining and it took me all day to figure it out. I sewed 4 pair of underpants because I just couldn’t get them the way I wanted I kept 2 and another doll can have the extra. The socks are too short but another doll can have these and I’m going to make new ones. Sadly I never measure I eyeball everything. :)

    16. New I’ve finished the “in ring” wrestling gear for my boy, Zen Dango. Next week I’ll start on the gear for my girl, Lotus Kai. It feels good to be making some progress.:)

      I LOVE that outfit!!

    18. New
Oh wow that turned out great! I love it and it suits him perfectly! The head piece is the coolest part. I love seeing your progress! :D

I’m probably going to finish in the next round :doh……

    19. New I finally finished Lotus Kai’s full body in-ring gear. The fit is so tight, I had many issues keeping it smooth enough while still being easy enough to put on a doll. But it’s done!:sweat And she’d better like it because I won’t be making her another one.

I may add decorations to it down the road, but since I’m planning to make an elaborate stage entrance kimono to go over it, I may just leave it be…at least for now. This costume will continue next month…

    20. New @PoeticSoul

That looks great, to me the fit looks perfect! I’m looking forward to seeing an, “elaborate stage entrance kimono,” that sounds awesome! :cheer

One day, I’d love to make a kimono or something similar but I need to finish my Dark Alice outfit (next round) for my Rosamii first.

    21. New This is all I have for now, I’m going to complete it hopefully in unfinished business. I did make the black part that goes over the dress but I failed and need to start over.

    27. New We are planning a move and I have had zero time to sew.

I've dropped in to say I love what everyone is doing with their projects this month. The move probably won't be finished with everything until the end of April. But after that I can hopefully get back to sewing.

Thank you both!! We have the house we want all set up, and we sold the one that we currently have. There is just so much packing to do. I really worried about all my doll boxes. I have to find a way to break them all down so I can keep them, but I am still worried about how much space they will take up.

Good thing is. I'll be able to turn the finished attic into a doll room. Which is awesome!

    31. New @RabbidBunnies Congratulations on the move…and good luck with your packing!:) Don’t worry, we’ll all be right here waiting for you when you’re ready to get creative again.
