It's turing out to be quite a productive round so far - Yay! Acessories too - nice. Mine isn't part ot part of this round but, since I'm sitting this one out and admiring what everyone else is doing this month - I've devoted my sewing time to continuing work on an old project (started the summer of 2016) amd moved my Vicrtorian Gingham Dress project on a chunk: The three dresses with one raised sleeve still need the sleeve seams sewing. All the dresses need fastenings (except the teal, which is the only one completely finished) and most of them need a belt, sash, or Swiss waist made to cinch in the waist There's also a dark green gingham dress but that's being modelled by Nesta (albeit pinned closed for want of fastenings). But as of tomorrow evening, by sewing room is being converted into an extra bedroom for a couple of weeks, so my sewing stuff & space won't be very accessible. Teddy
@JennyM Congratulations on your new doll! @mydaffer Sweet. Accessories are fun. @Teddy That is a lot of dresses and such a lovely selection of colours too. I bet your girls will be thrilled to have them. If you ever put in those fastenings, that is.
Thanks @mydaffer and @Lillith. When I originally had the idea for this set, there were seven girls in my Victorian family whose "default" colours of choice happened to be the seven rainbow colours. By the time I got round to starting.... Other colours had to be added as more girls joined the family. By that stage, it seemed silly not to include their "Goth" cousin in the group too, which is why one of the ginghams is black. The lime green is now the added-extra which was mostly made before I found the much better dark-green gingham for Nesta's dress (I'm not as keen on lime green for this project and Nesta is more a wearer of darker shades and more mossy ones), but it means that the lime green (plus pink, which I try to avoid) are still available if the family unexpectedly expands again (I might add tucks to the lime green dress, to shorten the skirt a tad and shorten the sleeves to use on the Baby Delf toddler of the family... or I might lower myself to using the pink for her) Teddy
Teddy, isn't it interesting how these resin beings twist us to their wishes? ;D Congrats on all the sewing you've accomplished the last couple of months!! I've loved watching the mori designs percolate this round. And the finishing touches & accessories certainly pull everything together! What a sweet variety of outfits have come out of this challenge!
{laugh!} If you mean "interesting" as in the old curse, " May you live in interesting times," then yes. Teddy
@mydaffer Oooooh…those accessories make the perfect finishing touch! I love this sweet, sweet outfit! @Teddy Sigh…I’ve coveted this fabulous collection of in-scale ginghams since the first time you showed them. They’re simply fabulous, as is this amazing collection of quaint, historic dresses. I love seeing them! Thanks so much for sharing them with us. As for me, my decidedly over-the-top “Mori on steroids” style was actually done this way for a reason. I have a new doll on order that is perfect for this crazy style: soft and quaint, but very lacy and billowy as well. My stand-in fem boy, Georgie, was happy to model since the doll this is destined for will be his best bud…so he’s encouraging the preparations.
Dante loves his velvet jacket, but decided he looked ridiculous in short ruffled pants, so we are patch working them long and redoing the ruffling...glad for this one more week ... Den of Angels sewing project by mare joy smith, on Flickr long pants by mare joy smith, on Flickr
Thank you for your feedback and your outfit is adorable and so creative! I adore it on your boy and can’t wait to see it on the doll intended. It all came together well and I was waiting to see how you were going to incorporate the materials of choice. Nice works! Well done, you’re doing a great job! That would be so complicated for me and you make it look easy!
@Teddy What a gorgeous array of colors! I'm sure your girls will be happy to receive their beautiful dresses! @PoeticSoul "Mori on steroids" is definitely the aesthetic I see happening for the piece I'm currently working on as well. My Doll Chateau Ona arrived a few days ago (much earlier than expected tbh), so most of my sewing efforts this week have gone into making her an outfit, including an over-dress with layers of lace trims.
Well, I've completed my Mori outfit - I was going to make Clogs but made Loafers instead. What fun and I'm excited to see all the completed outfits though the rest of the month. I sew from scratch so not perfect. I need to practice sewing more, this was a fun way to get some practice.
Yay! You certainly hit the mark on "lacy an billowy" Who could blame him - it looks sumptuous. Don't be so hard on your results - they look good in the pictures. You're probably being far more critical of your own work than anyone else would be, but yes, practice is always useful (not that over 40 years of it seems to have stopped me from frequent reliance on my unpicker). Teddy
@Teddy, that collection of gingham dresses are so very amazing! My girls are seriously jealous! @PoeticSoul, beautiful! It's a gorgeous look for your new boy! @dailymare, his velvet jacket is stunning! He knows what he wants! @mydaffer, all the accessories are a lovely finish to the complete outfit! I love her look! Great job!
I agree with @Aeilia and I love all your outfits! They are so special! I have done what I can with buttons for now. "Killed" an old necklace, made knots on threads, put some glue on the knot and pressed it into the pearl hole and let it dry. Dont know how it will work in the long run, but I wait with button holes until I know for sure if I shall use these buttons. The material, tree, feels good, but they are a little dark, and a bit too big.
@dailymare That velvet jacket looks positively sumptuous on Dante. It’s a great overall look for a decidedly difficult to design for body…wonderful job!. @mydaffer Those shoes are awesome! I so admire people who can make their own shoes…I’m very impressed. @JennyM What a great idea on those buttons! I think they look phenomenal…I personally like the way they contrast with the fabric and don’t think they’re too big at all. They add to the quaintness of the overall look and give it great charm.
@JennyM Very cleaver use of wooden beads. They look just like buttons. I agree they may be a bit on the large side, but in this style I think you can get away with it. That and the colour is mostly a matter of if you yourself are happy with it or not.
I love this, the buttons are perfect and such a good idea. So creative, love your works! The material is pretty too!
Almost there! I just finished my vest this morning and now only need to make a flower crown for her. Spoiler: Mori’s supposed to be linked to nature, right? https://i.ibb.co/WnML5Sr/F4-A2-B9-B7-564-A-4082-B732-53032-A77-D04-E.jpg[/img] She tried to “help” and put cat fur all over the front of the dress @JennyM Those buttons look great! They look really good with your fabric
Oh my that’s talented work and so perfect for your doll! Love the natural colors and design, the vest is amazing!
Naturally. What better help could she give. The waistcoat works well with the dress - I love how it goes with the dark green. Teddy
Finished! I tried making my flower crown, but I couldn’t get the flowers small enough to look proportional. So instead she has a braided hippy-ish headband with the two flowers I did make. I think I like it better this way and it was a lot quicker. And she now has a matching necklace- the tassel is the tan from the top belt and the pink from the vest. @mydaffer Thanks! @Teddy Thank you. Her jealous sister was sitting off on the side, glaring, when I took that picture.
Its lovely complete with the head band and the colors are colors I tend to lean towards when sewing. Very nice, all the details added are!
@Azure Agape Wow! That turned out beautiful. I love the texture of the waist coat, it almost looks a bit like macramé. It goes together perfectly with the headband.
@Azure Agape Your girl looks adorable, and I love the headband! I'm happy to say that tonight I was able to finish my newest girl's outfit, save for closures on the over-dress: I'm sorely tempted to make her a headband of some sort from the extra pink lace I have left over, but for now I'm happy with it!
Here is an update on the overdress! I finished all the construction, there is only details and closure left. I want buttons down the middle, but that depends on which side I want the opening on. I am not all that satisfied with the front opening. I can't decide on snaps or working buttons..? or if that is too bulky for me, I aslo tried to turn it so the back is now the front and it really could go both ways. left is front opening, left is technically the back
It loooks good either way around - why not do buttons with thread loops and leave it so that it can be worn either way around, or even left open for several different looks different looks....? Teddy
Welp, here goes... I'm very late, and often very distracted, but I've thrown something together for my first newbie round. It's about half done, and full of imperfections, lol. I gotta say, I'm not used to sewing in this scale! This pile of used clothes and salvaged stuff... IMG_20210625_232727_hdr by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr Became a simple floral sheath with contrasting trim and fat brown lace. A pair of embroidered bootie socks and headband. IMG_20210626_013507_hdr by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr With this last grouping of woven grass trims, light slubby knit, and buttons I hope to make her a sunhat and matching tote, and a long drapey sweater. IMG_20210626_014130_hdr by Dawn Coulombe, on Flickr It's a good thing this is interpretations on Mori! Please excuse my not following the weekly schedual. Critiques welcome!
@Azure Agape Oh well done! I swear I think I wore this back in the day! It looks like macrame and is just perfect for this look. @kaschan502 That turned out wonderfully! I especially love the layers of lace and ruffles as trim…it’s a great look. @CarolettuceBJD I love this…the combination of colors and patterns is sheer perfection! And I echo exactly what Teddy said about fastening it so it can be worn multiple ways. It’s so versatile! @Valdemagra What a cute dress! She looks like she’s all decked out for summer. The extras you have planned would be the perfect finishing touch for this adorable outfit.
Thanks everyone! It was fun to make and I’m pretty happy how it turned out. @kaschan502 That looks really good. I like all the ruffles on your overdress. Between the overdress and the under skirt, I bet it would be good for twirling. @CarolettuceBJD I like all the patterns combined together. I think it would work either way or with loops like Teddy suggested. @Valdemagra I think several of us (myself included) jump around on the schedule, so you’re not the only one. It’s looking pretty good so far. For critique- maybe a belt or something at the waist to give it a bit more definition? From the photo it looks like the doll’s bust is pulling a lot of the fabric forward off the back and sides, so the skirt is more evenly distributed and the bodice is looser in front under the bust/tighter around the back. If you add something around the waist, even if it’s pretty loose, that might make the transition between the two areas look more natural. @PoeticSoul I promise started out trying to go mori, but somehow it ended up slightly in 60s-80s territory. Oops. Sadly, I’m too young to have gotten my chance with that style, but at least I can dress my dolls up in it.
@JennyM, what a very creative solution for buttons! I think they look great, the size and colour are just the perfect contrast. @Azure Agape, beautiful! I love the lacy vest and her flowered head band! The total effect is very dramatic. ] @kaschan502, so pretty and delicate with all the lace and frills! Your girl's outfit turned out gorgeous! @CarolettuceBJD, very pretty! I love the combination of prints in the over dress! It's an added bonus, that she can wear it both ways. @Valdemagra, good work! Your girl looks so cute and summery in her new dress and accessories! As for me, I have finished two basic pieces I planned for this month, lace trimmed pants and a hat. I hope to get a picture soon. Right now, it's much too hot here to take her out to photograph. I started on a blouse, and also plan an overdress of light cream muslin ... but I"ll work on that next month.
this has certainly been a fun month in this group. We aren't sure long pants make the ruffles any better, but maybe. If I can get the coat off him I have a few ruffles I can add to it. This fabric, double gauze is so perfect for doll clothes. Found it at honeybegood.com long pants ruffled by mare joy smith, on Flickr long pants ruffled by mare joy smith, on Flickr
I really appreciate to participate in these rounds. To see all your amazing ideas and solutions and give and get feed back. A special thank to @PoeticSoul for "running" this in such a brilliant way! This is how my doll looks now, perhaps more romantic/old fashion than mori She looks a bit odd without faceup. I choose the wig for its color, for matching the buttons. I actually like them now. Picking cherries Wearing a shawl instead of the cardigan.
@dailymare Those pants are just full of fun. I think the longer version does look a little bit more amture and goes better with the jacket, but the shorter ones were very cute. Both versions are very nice though and the jacket is awesome. @JennyM She is adorable! The buttons worked out great and the whole presentation is lovely. I've finished a pair of crochet shoes for Beatrice.
@JennyM I love the romantic outfit. These fabrics go so nicely together. @Lillith OMG these crocheted shoes are everything. Meanwhile I kinda suck at uploading pictures. I've been working on my outfit and I even took WIP pictures but I was to lazy to crop them so they are small enough to be displayed on DOA. Maybe later? But I can definitely say I will not be able to finish everything until end of June. I started a new job this month and I was often too tired in the evening to work on it.
Phew, in right before the end of the month. I managed to make the top layer, though I haven't sewn any buttons on and I wanted to add ruffles. I think I'm going to remake the shirt dress (the piece with leaves on it) and I'm definitely going to make more of those socks I made at the beginning. So while it's technically finished as far as the project thread goes, this outfit is a work in progress. Anyway, this was fun! I'll keep my eye on these threads in the future, since it's good motivation to actually sew stuff.
I made a great start this round and then… nothing? I did finally finish my book though. As for everyone else’s projects: wow. Just, wow. So many great pieces and outfits! Even when I’m not sewing I love just reading along and watching all those garments take shape.
Ruffly ta-da! by mare joy smith, on Flickr finished yesterday except for the energy to take a picture. This has left Dante wanting to wear his 2 legged body for a time... daydreaming about round 100 - mare
@BlackSheep That's a great outfit. Very well done! @dailymare The ruffles on the jacket did the trick, it goes perfectly with the pants now.
I just printed out a list of the upcoming rounds annotated with my ideas/plans for projects I could try to work on that fit those themes (and a few spaces). Whether I'll get around to them or not is anohter matter but it might help to have the begginins of a plan instead of indecision at the start of each round. Teddy
@BlackSheep You really made great progress on so many pieces this round. And your doll looks great in it. Good for you! @dailymare That ruffle on the jacket really draws this outfit all together…and now I can fully understand your logic in lengthening the pants. It turned out perfectly. @Teddy That’s a really great idea! Leave it to you to figure out a great way to do things. And now it’s time for our latest round…the grand number 100! Designer’s Choice. Join us for the fun! /threads/sewing-project-designer’s-choice-round-100.843379/
@BlackSheep, it looks fabulous on your doll! Beautiful work! @dailymare, I love the ruffle added to the jacket! It ties the whole outfit together nicely! Here's Apple in the two pieces I managed to finish this round, pants and hat. The green cardigan is not really part of this outfit, but she needed to wear something on top, and it sort of goes with it. I also planned an overdress in a light weight cream muslin, which didn't get started yet. Apple by Linda Lou Brown, on Flickr
At least the cardi works well with the bits you did get made so she has an outfit that works, even if it's not the one you plannned. Teddy
