@kaschan502 Oooh….that looks so good! I love the shirt pattern…it’s a gorgeous form for a guy. And everything is sewn so neatly too. It really looks great. That belt is a wonderful combination of found items…recycling and repurposing at its best!
kaschan502, the colors are glorious & the belt with the flourishes is the perfect accompaniment! Good thing you listened to him & reworked the shirt. ;}
I'm as done as I am going to be. The robe stalled and never got beyond marking the fabric. So one dress, one flower crown and one belt is all I've got. I am happy with the individual parts and I can always make her more things later. It's good enough.
Thanks. Machine embroidery does have it's uses for doll clothes, but for something this small it would be difficult to keep it from interfering with the drape too much, I think. But I have used some decorative seams in the past in a similar manner as the embroidery on this project. It is well worth experimenting with. This dress is all hand embroidery. One strand of emroidery floss. There is a close up earlier in the thread.
Lillith, this is so lovely! All your hand embroidery is beautiful and it truly adds to the whimsical nature of her outfit. She looks like she just stepped out of a fairytale.
Hello everyone! First off, those are some gorgeous garments you have made! I was wondering if joining the round this close to the end is even worth it, because now I'm basically signing up for the Unfinished Business round really early, but I love fairytales, so I decide to do it, eventhough I'm definitely not going to finish on time. I tried to join this challenge two years ago, but then some real life happened (seriously, this real life thing won't stop getting in the way when I just want to cuddle my kitty and play with my dolls), and I wasn't able to do anything about my dolls or my sewing projects. I'm pretty much still a total beginner, and my dolls still don't even have face-ups, poor things. So for this round, I'd like to make some basic clothes for two of my dolls whose characters are inspired by my country's fairytales. One is a rusalka (a type of water nymph) and one is bludička (will-o'-the-wisp, but ours are usually full-sized humanoids and have lanterns). Both usually have human-coloured skin, but I'm a sucker for fantasy colours on dolls. In addition to clothes, I also want to use this challenge to finally make myself do their face-ups (which I've never done before and kept on procrastinating on account of being incredibly intimidated by it). Please pardon the crappy photo. The dolls are Withdoll JWD Elf Hunter Emma in grey and Luts Model Delf Dia in bubble mint, with fabrics I'll be using. I decided to live a dangerous life and aside from wanting to do two dolls' face-ups and outfits in two days, I also decided to use satin, THE perfect fabric for a beginner, heh. As for the outfits themselves, I'll be using the Shabby Chic pattern by Requiem Art Designs for both dolls (it will need to be resized for each doll individually, to put more on my already full plate), I don't want to deal with two different patterns, but I'm hoping to make the outfits slightly different from each other by using different materials and hopefully some embellishments. And I guess I'd like to apologise for the downright obnoxious length of this post... Sorry
@neon_jellyfish no need to apologize when waxing poetic over dreams & schemes! And it's always a good time to begin, if the theme inspires you just keep going!! Now don't lose momentum when the two day deadline closes in...as you say, there's always the next theme to pick up the pieces & keep on going. Good luck! They sound like fun projects (but satin???) ;}
@neon_jellyfish I’m echoing what cthulhu said above. If you’re inspired by a theme and can’t get it done, then just roll it over to the next month so we can all keep up to date on what you’re doing. We’d love to see your progress! These sewing projects are all about inspiring and sharing and creativity, so we’re very loose about things. And as for me…finally!!! I’ve finished my shironuri girl, Poetta’s latest story robe. It seemed to take forever this time! But it’s done. Here is what it looked like when I finished all the “slow stitching”. This illustrates the poem she has written about some of my collection, called Journey Through the Haunted Forest. And here it is completed.
PoeticSoul, these coats are so cool, I'm glad you discovered the style & have shared the creativity with us.
@PoeticSoul That's amazing! I love the story robes you make for Poetta, they're all so gorgeous And thank you to everyone for your kind words about Nori's outfit! I'm really happy with how they turned out
Just peaking in and taking a look at all the amazing outfits you all have made. You all did a fantastic job. It's inspiring to see all of your work.
I'm squeaking in with seven and a half hours left in the month (at least in my timezone). January has been fun, I managed to catch some sort of lurgy which left me dead on my feet for like a week and a half in the middle of the month. Creatively, this has been interesting. I ended up going with four layers of gathered organza for the skirt. Initially that was just going to be the middle layer, I do have a net petticoat which I also made, but having gathered it down to my doll's waist measurement meant that reducing bulk was more important and I liked the colour. In hindsight I probably should have halved the lengths of organza that I was gathering and done more of them but two layers of green and two of black gave me the most amazing colour. The bodice was only possible through the magic of fray check. That stuff saved my ass It's fully lined and it is technically reversible. The bodice is kept pointy with two padded and wired front pieces sandwiched between the layers which also stop nipple pointing. The back is laced up with nylon cord and I was going to sew eyelet holes but I both ran out of time and I couldn't find my bodkin. I settled for using a darning needle very carefully. I also didn't manage a modesty panel which I was going to make but ran out of time. All of that said. Pictures. Apologies for terrible background, I got everything finished and wanted to get some photos before the natural light faded completely.
@PoeticSoul stunning work as usual!! Poetta's body of work (and yours) is so impressive @Crissaegrim it looks phenomenal! Superb job, I think the layering really did give an absolutely amazing color like you said I fly back into town tomorrow, but who knows what next month will bring for me - the trip was a huge success, my partner is my fiancé now (he said yes ) so I'm going to be getting plans together to move across the country while working full time! I probably will need to do some serious de-stressing, might pick up where I left off this time since I was kind of combining this and next theme anyway. But who knows! We'll just have to see.
Crissaegim, congratulations! mission accomplished, that skirt & bodice perfectly recreates your inspiration image.
I have actually managed to make a new dress for my outfit, a lovely little poofy sleeve dress, it's almost completely finished. I just need to add some velcro fastenings for the back. I can't post a picture just yet as I am on mobile. I've not finished the whole outfit but at least I have made something I'm proud of.
@Crissaegrim That turned out so lovely…and you’re right, that color came out amazing. It’s positively magical! @cakie99 Good for you! It’s always wonderful when we succeed at our sewing accomplishments. We look forward to seeing it.
@cthulhu @PoeticSoul Thank you both for a warm welcome! @Crissaegrim Beautiful! I absolutely love it! I managed to do the face-ups, and boy, are they awful! I hate them, but I also kinda sorta love them, since I've been putting this off for so long because I was afraid of it, but now I finally did it! At long last I got to sucking at it, so I can finally start getting better! As for the sewing part, I'm progressing very slowly, I went down with a minor cold and I'm slow even at full health, but I'm in the process of figuring out resizing the pattern and making mockups out of an old T-shirt. Should I keep posting here, or should I invade the new round thread with future updates?
I’d swing on over to the new thread because more of us will be keeping up with that one now and will happen to see it there.
Poop! I stopped receiving updates so missed a page of posts here!! Well done everyone! I just scrolled back through the thread to update myself on progress I missed. Teddy
Finally found the time to post my pictures so here we go, the finished dress and the full amount of clothes I managed to finish (not quite the full outfit i had planned) I've noticed with the green hood and golden hair, she actually kind of looks like a version of Link, which is just a funny like coincidence, must be the colour scheme.
