How does this work? Every round, you try to make one complete outfit (or more) that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to it (feel free to be creative in your interpretation!) These projects are here to inspire your sewing and creativity. During the four weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other. NOTE: Sewing Project is free for anyone to join whenever they want. New faces are always welcome at anytime during the round. We’re going to have fun this month exploring a single color…whichever color your heart desires…in all its variations. Feel free to interpret that color however you wish, in a single shade or multiple ones; in a solid or a print…in an ombre or a camo…in a coordinated dot or stripe. You get to decide the color and what shades of that color (or lack of) you want to use. Have fun! Week 1: 2/1 to 2/7 * Pick a doll and post their name, sculpt and picture * Decide what you want to make and post a description or inspiration images * If you use pre-made patterns, decide on which ones to use * If you make your own patterns, get started on that. If you have trouble finding or making your patterns, ask for help in the thread! Week 2: 2/8 to 2/15 * Buy or get done with your patterns * Gather your materials (fabrics, notions etc.) and post a picture/pictures of them! * Get started with the sewing and post progress pictures! Week 3 and 4: 2/16 to the end of February * Try to get the whole outfit done! * If you have time left over, make some accessories! When you are done, make sure to post a picture of the completed outfit, if possible on the doll! I’d love to join this round and am super excited to make my doll a dress of her own. She is wearing my Uda’s dress and Uda would like it back! I’ll add materials later today. I plan on sewing from scratch but will try to make a pattern as I go so if I decide I’d like to make another dress similar I’ll have something to go by. She’s volks Mimi on a 13 yr old Volks body a good size to sew for. I’d like the dress I sew to be long over the knees with long sleeves. Materials added: subject to change, also I plan to possibly dye some of the material.
I’m excited for this round! I want to make a two piece top and skirt set. I saw this Barbie at Walmart the other day that was wearing this adorable gingham set with little bow details. I thoughtt it would be perfect to recreate for my new AE doll. I have some purple gingham fabric that I plan to use, along with purple ribbon and shoes to go with the monochrome look!
Lady Bee before re-stringing by Coulombe, on Flickr A project I've been meaning to get to is to make something with this adorable bee fabric for my Peak's Woods FoB Lady Bee from 2008. I would like to make a pattern for this dress directly from the doll, as I have never tried this before. As she is very floppy for her age, so she will need a re-stringing before I get started. I haven't figured out what dress to do yet, and I haven't found the right complementary fabric for the little bee print yet, and not for lack of looking. But I figure I will have a bit of time after the restringing to decide. See you laterz when the deetz are compleetz!
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone is going to do this month. I don't have any plans yet for this month. I might think up something or I might sit back and watch enjoying everyone's awesome creations!
Once again I’m choosing to make something special for my troll changeling, Imaginaria (Ringdoll SD Jade.) She’s decided she needs a cozy nightgown so she can cuddle with her collection of monster plushies. I have some sumptuous hand-dyed velvet in ombre plum shades to work with (and some matching art fibers to make her a hair accessory.) Inspiration ideas: Fabric and fibers:
I'm hoping to finally participate in this round! I have been meaning to do a full white medieval outfit for one of my dolls since I got her some months ago. Rosemonde is a minigenue/minifee hybrid, and while she mostly dresses very bright, there's also moments when she goes monochrome, so it's the perfect round for her. I have a pattern for the dress and a fabric (white fabric with a pattern of white feathers on it). If I manage just that, it'll be good, but I also have some hopes of making a houppelande to go with it for extra drama... although that may be harder as I'd need to make my own pattern (I've looked it up online before, and always ended up very confused lol)
Lady Bee collage by Coulombe, on Flickr Reporting progress: cling wrapped and freezer taped up after re-stringing. I like both these dress inspirations, but I'm leaning towards the pink one as I may be able to use it like a shirt also. I have no skills as a pattern maker, so the next steps are kinda scary for me, wish me luck! Looking forward to seeing everyone's projects come to life!
The pink one will be much easier to draft a pattern for: it looks to be basically a trapeze dress or tent dress, and the straps mean it doesn't have to stay up on its own. Good luck!
Oooh, everyone's got such pretty stuff to work with this round! I've been working on a project that, admittedly, started before this round and will probably show up in some Unfinished Business rounds, heh. I'm trying to use up the scraps of my ivory satin, and the big rectangle of it that was left is like, as tall as my 1/3 scale girls, so it's gonna be an overskirt and not get closed up so it can at least lie flat on the floor. I'm thinking of using the rest to make a long vest, then I want to make an underdress out of ivory lace fabric and give that big poofy sleeves because why not? It's supposed to be fancy! First things first though is doing a ton of decorating on the overskirt before I gather it up to a waistband. That's, uh, probably going to take me all of this round! Did have fun getting a lot of beads, though. Here's what I've got to work with: (link)
Some great progress on my Barbie look a like outfit! I finished the skirt It’s very simple, just two squares and darts to shape it. I used fusible interfacing to stiffen the fabric, and I love the effect. It’s laying just how I wanted it! And I couldn’t help myself, the bows are lace with a pearl center. I just love lace and pearls!
The materials are beautiful and the decorations are pretty, can’t wait to see it all together! I love how this is taking form, the material is super cute and that’s a great idea adding the cute little bows like that!
@lully.lullers That skirt is adorable! Better than Barbie! I'm kinda jealous seeing you guys going ahead with progress and I am stalled because I'm pretty sick with a throat cold right now that is leaving me exhausted. I did get Lady Bee's pattern cut out though.
@lully.lullers Oooh that's adorable! The lace and pearl bows are a great touch, and that's smart with the interfacing. (I always forget about the stuff...) @Valdemagra Oh no! Hope you feel better soon.
Well my imagination once again super ceded my ability to follow through, I may need to try again. I’ll leave the next dress plan a mystery because it will be a mystery to me anyway, I never seem to follow my own directions.
I do this all the time - I long ago gave up sketching what I was going to make because it was almost always subject to changes along the way and came out very different from what I first envisioned. But still and anyway you got a pretty dress out of it. Teddy
@Teddy Thank you! I completely relate to you! Absolutely nothing I envision comes out like I want because I sew from scratch and imagination ! On this dress I picked the wrong materials. they were shear and not hard to work with because I zigZagged all the cut lines but I didn’t have a lot and it was too thin to make what I wanted. I’m going to pick new materials today and give it a second go.
While it may not have matched your original intensions, it turned out lovely and oh-so-sweet regardless. She certainly now has a dress that’s absolutely perfect for Valentines Day…and perhaps that was “her” intention all along.
@JaxxCapta I just look at that cream material and lace and can't wait to see what your outfit is going to look like! I am very excited to see the outcome on this one! @lully.lullers That skirt is gorgeous! I love the little bows above her thighs! Also, the flowers made me chuckle a little. That's such a sweet coverup. @mydaffer The dress looks so sweet! Se looks ready for a spring festival. I love the pink material.
Thank you! Oh yes that’s it, she wanted it this way, I only have a few boys here and she’s hoping possibly to catch the eye of one, and all along I thought she was so innocent! Thank you! Wow I’m so behind in life, yes springs around the corner, I love when my mistakes fall in to place!
My white medieval outfit came together faster than I expected (tbh, I expected to not start at all, but my partner got sick and I took a half day off to look after them... and that also gave me time to cut fabric and start sewing) It doesn't look quite as nice in photo as it does irl. There are two layers, with very different texture of fabric, but photos flatten it a bit, especially in a fullbody photo. Since this was finished quicker than expected, I really might give her a coat or a cloak. I'd said a houpelande before, but I think that was too ambitious. A cloak would already look quite nice, especially in this season...
@Tagath Ooooh…the lines and fit of that dress are pure loveliness, and the paleness of it all suits her coloring beautifully. What a classic look!
@Tagath That’s is very pretty, I love the look and seems to fit well. I don’t think my photos look as good as in real life either. A coat or clock would pair well with it.
I finished the top for the Barbie inspired set! I went a little rogue are went without the puff sleeves. And I added lace and pearls again heehee I kind of freestyled making the top, and it has a very low back, almost like a bandeau bra. It fits her nicely! And I knitted a beret to go with her set The completed outfit! So purple!
oh wow I love the look, it turned out perfect. Sewing for larger breast dolls is so hard for me but you made it look so easy. Love the beret and her cute stance. Very well done, the outfit looks darling on her! ❤️
Thank you! She’s helping me learn to sew for a big bust! It’s new territory for me, but playing with darts is fun. I feel like I’m learning a lot
Ahh, yes. Lady Bee is totally flat-chested, hehe. @lully.lullers Such a cute outfit! I love the pearl accents, and the touch of Parisian beret! I must try some knitting one day! Adorbs!
This is such an adorable look on your girl! Sooooo very Barbie! The trims, the jewelry, the wonderfully knitted beret are all just “chef’s kiss” perfection.
I wanted to add that I had made a skirt for under Mimi’s dress and she’s actually was wearing it under the dress in the photo I posted. Both materials are very very light weight and even though I have a surge machine I zig zagged tiny zags on the lined bodice and everything actually.
Well, I managed to finish my project for the month. It was a struggle because I’d forgotten how difficult, unforgiving, and monumentally frustrating traditional old-school velvet can be…especially in doll scale. So I combatted that with only doing a little bit at a time, and when the nerves began to fray I just put it down and walked away. Time-consuming, yes, but it kept it out of the local landfill. And in the end, I’m very happy with the result. I got what I wanted, and now Imaginaria has her comfy, cozy, and ultimately soft nightgown to cuddle on the bed with her collection of plushie monsters.
The right underlayers can make all the difference. Well done for winning the battle with the velvet. It looks pretty and very luxurious. Teddy
@PoeticSoul That turned out so well, the material may have been a challenge but the outcome well worth it! These colors and design look perfect on her and the added touch of little plush monsters is the icing on the cake. Very nice Is the cat monster she is holding made differently?
Thanks so much for the kind comments, makes it worth it (almost!) I actually have more of this same fabric in another color to use for a similar project…but after all that, not anytime soon. I didn’t make these, but no, she’s actually made similarly to the others…only in a Mexican day-of-the-dead style. They’re called “toe beans” by a very talented artist on Etsy. Imaginaria wanted a monster plushie in scale for her to cuddle and I discovered these. Now she has an entire collection of them! (Spoiled doll is spoiled…)
@PoeticSoul I really don’t do well with words when replying. I didn’t think you made them but they are cute but the one she is holding looked crocheted. It’s so nice you spoiled her ! I always keep a plushie with a lone doll or always make sure no doll is alone and has a friend.
@PoeticSoul I admit, I couldn't take my eyes off the toys, so cute! Toe Beans, eh? I may have to look that up! Found it! CarouselCustoms on Etsy (In general, I haven't worked too much on my project because frankly, I've been going through the Epstein files. Yeah, it's ugly and I'm getting headaches, but I'm trying to hold those involved in my small way accountable for what has been finally revealed. Justice for the children!)
@Tagath I love the dress, it very classic style, beautifully cut and sewn. @lully.lullers So sweet! I love the Barbie style outfit. I love the checkered print and the dainty bows, the hat is a bonus for completing the outfit. @PoeticSoul I love it! The fabric looks so soft too. The little cats are a bonus!
