Wearables Sewing Project: Eveningwear/Haute Couture [ Round 112 ]

Jul 1, 2022

    1. This is the newest round of the sewing project.
      How does this work?

Every round, you try to make one complete outfit (or more) that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to it (feel free to be creative in your interpretation!) These projects are here to inspire your sewing and creativity. During the four weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other.

NOTE: Sewing Project is free for anyone to join whenever they want. New faces are always welcome at anytime during the round.

Do you have a doll in need of something fancy or one who’s craving (in other words, demanding) the latest fashion style (in whatever time period or genre that might be?) Perhaps you’ve been holding onto that special piece of luxurious fabric you’re just dying to use. Or maybe you’ve seen a new trend on the catwalk you’re eager to explore. If it’s elegance or on-trend fashion your doll is after, please pull out all the stops and come join us! It’s time for us all to explore our inner haute couture designers.;)

      Week1: 7/1-7/7
      * Pick a doll and post their name, sculpt and picture
      * Decide what you want to make and post a description or inspiration images
      * If you use pre-made patterns, decide on which ones to use
      * If you make your own patterns, get started on that.

If you have trouble finding or making your patterns, ask for help in the thread!

      Week 2: 7/8 to 7/15
      * Buy or get done with your patterns
      * Gather your materials (fabrics, notions etc.) and post a picture/pictures of them!
      * Get started with the sewing and post progress pictures!

Week 3 and 4: 7/16 to the end of July
      * Try to get the whole outfit done!
      * If you have time left over, make some accessories!

When you are done, make sure to post a picture of the completed outfit, if possible on the doll!

      Coming rounds:

      [ Round 113 ] Unfinished Business
      [ Round 114 ] Punk/Steampunk/Cyberpunk (Glamrock/Jrock/Visual Kei)
      [ Round 115 ] Mori Style/Dark Mori/Cottagecore

    2. I actually have the perfect fabric for a slinky evening dress and probably some more besides

    3. This kind of clothes aren't my jam but I will join just for fun ❤️

I think as model I will use my Yue Jian from DF-H. He has no name and he has no makeup and I don't know if I will be able to give him one because is winter here and the humidity is awful for the sealant u.u

I don't know much about couture but I was looking and scrolling and found something that can fit the style of this doll.

He is always smiling and is very easy going. He likes the rock, metal and alternative music. He's style is something like grunge, gothic and edgy but he's not afraid to try new styles and clothes as long as he likes it. Also the clothes are genderless for him.

      The model:

The designs what I chose for inspiration from Dior autumn - winter 2021/2022 collection.

I can't wait for seeing your models, your choices and your progress n.n greetings!

    4. I will participate this month, I like Haute couture, it is a good challenge.
      This is my inspiration board:

My model is an armless Souldoll Hye if she is here in time.

    5. Wow! You just can’t get any more high fashion than Dior! And I love the uniqueness of your boy’s sculpt. This is going to be a fascinating project!:D

Ohhhhh! There’s certainly an amazing classicism to those styles. I can’t wait to see how you interpret it for your new Souldoll Hye. It’s a lovely sculpt!:)

And as for me, I will be continuing on my summer project of making “story robes” for my storyteller, Poetta (Volks 4 sisters Megu) in keeping with her Japanese Shironuri style. It’s pure fantasy of course, but hey, in fantasyland they do dress-up as well for special occasions, right?;)

In keeping with the more extravagant, elegant nature of this round, I will be doing a robe based on Poetta’s imagined story poem,“The Genie Palace”…all about her visit to this particular part of my collection, which is a very fancy place indeed.:)

And here are the supplies I’ve ordered for this project.

    6. I have some ruffled layered tulle that's burning a hole in (otherwise known as "taking up all the space in," rather) an entire drawer of my fabric organizer, so maybe I'll make something with it! It kind of reminds me of the Rosenau dress Fairyland makes for minifees. Originally I bought the fabric intending to make a human-sized petticoat, so we'll see if I can fiddle with it to make something more in-scale to dolly proportions this round!

    7. i really want to join in on this round since this is my absolute favorite kind of design/sewing...i'll have to see if i can squeeze in a project amongst some non-doll, deadline-having projects i have to work on this month. hopefully i can manage it!

    8. Ooh I think I might actually join in on this round...I've been wanting to make an elaborate, borderline avant garde ballgown for one of my Minifee girls. I'm thinking either an all white dress with faux rose petals sewn to the skirt as ruffles, or an edgy black dress for my goth doll. Maybe I'll do both so my girls can coordinate ;)

    9. Crissaegrim: Ouch, the fabrics from the Khan collection look horrible to sew with. I do not envy you, but I admire your choice and wish you the best of luck. It will be exciting to see what you make. I am much less daring in the fabrics I am choosing.

PoeticSoul: Such lovely fabrics. I think peacock feathers would be awesome to mix in with that selection.

    10. @skumring It's really more the design of them, not the actual sequinned materials. I have a black metallic and a bronze-ish metallic fabric.. I might add some sequins but that will be later. I'm kind of hoping to emulate the third design but with a leg slit.

    11. I'm cheering from the sidelines as none of my dolls ar really wearers of this kind of stuff.

I MIGHT, but just might, mind you, get a headstart on some Unfinished Business while i'm cheerign on the Haute Couture and and Eveningwear makers.

    12. Love the ideas I'm seeing from everyone so far!

I think I'll try again this round, I'm surely needing some more practice sewing.
I'll be using my Peakswoods Rosamii because she needs something fancy.

      [IMG] [IMG]

Have fun everyone, I sure will! ;)

    13. I'm right with you there, dude.

I'll be cheering you all on silently. I'll try and get a head start on next month's theme, though. Since I too, don't have any dolls wearing this sort of style. Have fun and best of luck!

    14. Crissaegrim: I can totally see that dress with a split, so elegant.

mydaffer: With that faceup she will totally rock some eveningwear.

    15. Thank you so much, I'm envisioning it to be more elegant and runway style. Shimmering and jaw dropping. Lets see what happens... ;) one can fantasize right!

    16. I'm planning to join in this round with my Peak's Woods/Dream Valley girl, who's based on a character from an anime and manga series called Trinity Blood. This pic will be my main inspiration for this round, but I might tweak some things about the design based on personal preference and scaling constraints:
(She's sleeping in this pic, but the character is an empress who wears all kinds of ornate garments regardless of her activity. lol)

    17. I love this, it's very similar to what I'm doing. Can't wait to see it completed! ;)

    19. Picked some material I'd like to use for Rosemii's dress, sadly I tried to dye the pink material purple and it didn't work so I took the dye out and now it's pale pinkish white..... oops

(Mistake not shown in pictures-these were taken beforehand.)

    20. @mydaffer On the plus side, that color certainly goes beautifully with her faceup.:)

    21. Dye can be uncooperative at times, so can fabric - combine the two and... Yep, it'll mess with you, because it can.

      Pretty colour nonetheless.

    22. thank you, that pink is the pink prior to dying and whiting it, the new color will be a surprise. ;) on to pattern making. Fun Fun Fun!

Thank you, it's much pinkish whiter now but it will be ok, was wanting to match the colors of my drawing idea but that went up in smoke.... lol..... only me...... ;)

    23. I'm thinking of joining this month again but not sure. I will try to think about an outfit for one of my dolls. ^^

    25. I think I'm going to join and try and make some evening wear for my Dream High Studio Elf Alfredo:

I think he would look good in some Edwardian style evening wear: Upturned collar with bow, white shirt and cape, with a top hat. He's very small so we'll see how successful I am... I've yet to complete one of these challenges :P I dream big and then don't find the time :sigh

    26. Ah - but the NEXT theme is Unfinished Business so you have a double-shot at it...

    27. It's only eight days into the month and I have a second pass mockup done. I've learnt I need to shift the back seam to make it more central and that there's still some fiddling to be done to make the curve around to the back go smoothly.

This time, slightly better lighting even if she is still headless. My desire for a better photography rig weighs against my limited space and budget.

      I also have my materials.

I'm leaning heavily towards the bronze fabric on the left although I also think the black sparkly material on the right might work as well.

    28. Ah, this is the one I've been waiting for and almost missed it.

@skumring I've got so many of those designs saved on my Pinterest boards. I've especially been wanting to recreate that top left design. Not sure what I'm going to do this month though.

@Crissaegrim A suggestion if I may. When doing a mockup it's best to do one in a similar fabric to what your final fabric will be. Largely focusing on the weight and stretch properties of your final fabric. It looks like the fabrics your thinking of using for your final dress are knits. As such it would be better to do your mock up in a knit fabric as well since knit fabrics have different properties to the wefted muslin your currently using.

Edit: So I've decided to torture myself and I'm going with a design similar to this, Zuhair Murad | Spring 2022.

    29. Crissaegrim: I would go for the bronze fabric. And I second Cloudedmind on doing the mockup with the same kind of fabric as the one you will use in the end. Or just be aware of the differences between the two fabrics you are using and compensate for it in the pattern.

Cloudedmind: Love that top left one too, more of a fairytale design than the rest of my inspiration that is leaning toward a futuristic and sleek style, but it does have the black/white contrast I want to go with and I like the shoulder piece.
That Murad dress is spectacular. I think it has too much going on at once though, I can't really find a place to rest my eyes. I feel like I am looking at four dresses at once, but I do like the pleats on the top. It is indeed a great challene, lookig forward to see what you make.

    30. Hello everyone! I'm a bit late but at least I came to join
This time I'm going to try out Missy's Imagining's pattern called Evangeline – Soft Whispers Pattern
Odette (Resinsoul Xun) will again be my model for this time.
      Wish me luck! :whee:

    32. I may need to do the on the next round because sadly I have a puppy at home that has fading puppy syndrome. We're working hard to keep him alive so my time is all focused on him at the moment. I really want to do this, I just can't focus on this right now. I'll be watching all the wonderful outfits being posted. Have fun, I really love these threads!

    33. @skumring I rather like how all of the pieces come together, though I may ditch making the sleeves (still deciding) and will also be simplifying the bodice some. I already had some fabric on hand that I wanted to use for the inside skirt, and then went downtown this weekend to get the rest.

I'm also working on a project that will hopefully make draping this easier as well as any future projects.

    34. Sending all my love and praying for him! I hope he will fight and survive <3

    38. @mydaffer Many hugs to you. :aheartbea

I had an idea many times ago for a dress which can fit this round. But I work on a cosplay for now and I play a lot on Genshin Impact. XD (and no my cosplay is not a Genshin Impact cosplay lol) So I'm not sure to join. But well, some days I have a creation fury lol.

    39. Thank you very much!

Sounds interesting, it's not too late to join and the next round can help you finish if you're not done. I love these threads. Hope you decide too.

    40. Hi everyone! I got the outfits done pretty early this time. I made this dress with an adjustable sleeve. The pattern was from Missy's Imaginings (Evangeline Soft Whispers pattern). I messed up so I had to come up with some modification to make it work. I hope you enjoy and let me know if no sleeve or with sleeve is better [IMG]

    42. Wow that looks fantastic and she's so pretty in the dress. Very nice and perfect material, so elegant! ;)

    43. This dress is gorgeous! I have a preference without the sleeve but both are very pretty

      • x 1
    44. I love the asymmetrical look with the sleeve, but it’s also nice sleeveless as well. Both ways are very stylish and this dress is beautiful on your girl.. Well done!:)

    45. Thank you! I think if I' was the one who is going to wear it, I would prefer without sleeve but I also like both :whee:

      Thank youu! <3

I think so too. Some people says, with sleeve would look better with longer and slimmer dress and I think I agree!

Thank you so much! My first draft was with sleeve but I made it detachable and found that without it also look pretty :aeyepop:

    46. Well, I’m absolutely wilted from the summer heat, so my progress this month has been quite slow.:sweat But I at least got a start, and I’ve pieced together the basis with hand done french seams (no other way with these delicate fabrics) and I’ve carefully steamed them into place. Now the fun begins! Time for all the slow stitching embellishments to tell the story of the Genie Palace!;)

    48. Hye is here, so now I can make the pattern. This will be fun!
Looking forward to see what you are all making.

    49. That is starting out beautiful like all the outfits you make. Looking forward to the completion. ;)

    50. Congrats - Good luck with the pattern

      Teddy

    51. Pattern almost done. I went for a low dip in the back, Hyes back is so lovely, I just had to find a way to show it off. Also nearly finished a top piece to layer with. I might have to make the dress white as I am not sure I have enough black silk.

      • x 2
    52. Top piece done, dress nearly done, just the hem left, but I will let it hang itself out and do that last. I managed to tweak the dress out of the black silk I had. Still have to make a neck/shoulder piece, and pondering if I should make a headpiece. At least I found the perfect eyes. Still not sure of the wig.

The one thing I did not think about was that with no arms there is nothing to keep a backless dress in place. But it still looks gorgeous.

      • x 2
    53. I have not got beyond mockups because I am moving and both my brain and my sewing supplied are packed away in boxes.

      • x 1
    54. That does kind of prohibit progress being made...

      Teddy

    55. Dress all done. Hemming black with tiny stitches is hard even in full daylight.
Shoulder piece is drying into shape with some shellac to make it hold its shape. I wish I had some proper black leather dye, I guess that is something that has to go on my shopping list along with latex.
Working on a headpiece, lots of beads and it is not even half way done. But it is starting to look pretty.
One week left, I hope I will make it.

    56. Yay!

Good luck with the rest of it

      Teddy

    57. @skumring Good for you! I’m really looking forward to seeing this when you’re done.:)

    58. So, I did it!
      All finished.
It is rainy and cold outside, so I postponed my trip out in the woods for pictures, so all you get are a few pictures I took on the verandah. It will have to do for now.
