I made a black and white dress for Kess today using a new technique I just learned. It's called shirring and is very easy! Lovely dress Ban! I love silky fabrics but hate that they fray! Would some fray check along the edges work? Sorry for the sideways photo... Photobucket is having issues tonight it seems....
Thanks! Mmmm, maybe if you used elastic thread? When you machine sew, the elastic thread goes in the bobbin and you use regular thread for your top thread. So maybe if you used the elastic thread and just pulled it a little to make a bit of a gather as you're sewing you may have the same effect?
@Enchanted I love shirring! It's so fun and relatively easy to do. The neckline of your dress looks so cute and frilly..! I would have done a couple more rows of shirring though to show Kess' waist a little. @designedforsmiles You might also be able to sew some thin flat elastic along the back. I've not tried doing it by hand, but it could work. You could also play with gathering for a similar effect! @FilthyWarumono Wow, it looks great! What did you do for the gloves? Are the hands just painted?
Thank you LuckyXIII and Statuess! Yeah, they're just painted hands, Dante actually has fingerless gloves but the preson I made it for didn't want gloves so I just slapped on Prophet's pair for the pictures. xD
Thank you! Yes! It's a fun and easy technique! I was thinking the very same thing after I had completed the dress! (About adding a couple of more rows shirring that is...) Next project....
I nearly didn't see this thread! But I would like to contribute some dresses I made for my MNF Chloe, so at least you would know making this dress for this size is possible! The second dress I made and shown in the Minifee discussion thread. And this is the newest dress I made for my Alice.
Love that infinity dress Silver, you're seriously tempting me to make one. BTW - the skirt isn't stretchy fabric, is it? did you have to make a snap closure in the back to get it on? Here's a pajama set I made for Amy - tank and sweats
Thank you so much! The skirt is also stretchy fabric as well, along with the straps as well. And no closure in the back at all! Just slide it on and off like magic. :> And that pajamas set is so adorable on Amy. She looks so comfy in them!
@ Silver & Ban - both your outfits are great. I love the lounge-y sweats and tank... Silver, I followed your link (from mnf discussion thread) to the tutorial you used and I think I'm going to try making an infinity dress also. It looks so pretty, feminine and just perfect for summer evenings. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, Silver, they both look great! I've been meaning to make one (for one of my SD-ized dolls), even cut out the fabric and everything, but been putting it off! haha Partly because I'm thinking of shirring the whole thing for a bodycon effect. Any tips for making the dress dolly-sized, or are the instructions perfect as they are?
I actually made a tutorial here just for the dollies. :> But the instructions are almost similar, though I did some parts of my own way. Just hope that helps. No shirring and such needed~ No hemming and such. Here's the tutorial.
Thanks so much for the tutorial, Silver! Aria loves her new infinity dress. Still working on how else to wrap it, but it looks great on her.
Yay I finally get to jump in here. I've been stalking, and my Shushu finally came in. I made this semi baggy shirt out of a fabric with a sort of vintage feel. Not sure why, since its nowhere near her style, but the print just really appealed to me. Also, on her arm to our right, i made a sleeve/handwarmer thing. I made them for both arms and was really proud. >.< (sorry for her wonky eyes!! XD i need better putty) I also beaded the hello kitty cuff. Heres a bonus of her jewelry: Click!
I did some sewing for Kess yesterday. The pattern is from HDM and is for an 18" BJD. It needed a bit of tweeking- it's just a tad too big, but it works for a flowing sun dress. The fabric is beautiful- purchased from Joann Fabrics. It's hand dyed Thai Batik and is a nice light cotton.
Hi guys ! I just received my Lishe boy and I'm trying to make him a burlesques like outfit. I found an old mnf boy corset pattern awhile ago, but I never managed to print it correctly, does anyone as and can help me?
I finished this for my Epona last week @angelys: I made several mnf/msd corsets before, from my own pattern, but I'm actually in the middle of moving in with my boyfriend, so whenever I find the pattern again, I'll post it here, just might take a while.
oh my gosh! we're in the same boat! (except i haven't gotten my doll just yet) XP but patterns make me crazy and i'm trying to teach myself how to sew, and i'm going by hand too. :3 (the machine and i have a bad history) Dx
Sewed this dress for my incoming Shushu (head only). Kess was kind enough to model it for photos. This is so not her style!
Pannytheangel- Wow, the dress looks great! I made an infinity dress for one of my larger boys, but I'm not great at tying it. >_< Lien looks totally at home in his, though!
Angelys: Thanks! I wish I could give some advice, but I'm not entirely sure how I pulled off Lien's shorts in the first place. ._. I need to edit the pattern I made and try again to make sure it works, lol. Statuess: Thanks! ^^ I think I spent a good 20 minutes googling how to tie an infinity dress. >_o
I thought this would be the best place to ask. Does any one have a MNF Boys pants pattern? I've seen several patternless pants tutorials, but since the require a doll to fit them on, I'm out of luck. My boy should be home in the next two weeks or so, but I don't want him running around pants-less when he gets here.
Here's an outfit I made for Uzi using an Ellowyne Wilde pattern/set: She is gonna love this when she comes home from her spa day!!
I was bored today so I decided to sew Prophet a little Kigurumi. They're like.... animal jumpers popular in Japan? xD
A Bad Guy kigurumi, that is so awesome! [calmwater801] honestly, I would still recommend the pattern by Ragdoll for pants. I just eyeballed it from her pictures and it came out just fine. If your REALLY worried about the fit just make them like pj's and sew them all the way up the front, leaving enough room at the top for encasing elastic. Hope that made some sense. ^_^"
Nice work, everyone! This just reminds me that I need to start sewing for my little Anouska. She's going to be a mnf Chloe, and I am so excited. :3
I agree she will definitely love this! Oh I can't wait to see your Uzi! I have been craving for a sexy bad a... Chloe lately.

Ban Sidhe : Beautiful dress ! I love this medieval style ! Enchanted : You make lovely outfits for your girls ! Your Rheia is so pretty ! Some of my latest work, I wanted some kind of romantic feel for these dresses... Thanks for watching ! ^^
Those are so beautiful! I love the brown one and the pink and blue one. I'm so sorry I missed the brown one, I would have loved it for my girl. Your work is just amazing!
just discovered this sewing thread specifically for minifees. i've only been on the general sewing thread. i probably won't get a chance to sew much this summer but may i just admire your creations for now? those corset dresses are exquisite
EilonwyG : Oh I'm really sorry you missed it, I'll try to make new stuff for Petite Precieuse when I have more time... Thank you very much for your interest though, I'm so happy you like these dresses ! =D Auntbear : Thank you !! Too bad you don't have time to sew for your dolls (I love the rocking chair you made for your Realpuki by the way ! So cute !).
thanks. my kids are off for the summer so i switch to more portable things like crocheting and knitting. i couldn't survive an entire summer without doing anything
Awwww, thanks And I've always been a fan of your Rheia girl as well as your amazing dresses !!! Here are a couple of the bustiers I've been making lately: bustier pink by ban sidhe, on Flickr bustier red by ban sidhe, on Flickr And a summer dress: Summertime ! by ban sidhe, on Flickr
It's looking really good so far! As for accessories... I'd say she definitely needs a whip. What kind of blouse/shirt are you planning on to go with it?
A whip makes me think more of a lion tamer. When I picture a ringmaster, I see an enormous golden megaphone in hand... or a microphone would be good, too. I don't think you could go wrong with a nice ball-tipped cane, though!
Karrigankat: I was actually planning on doing something like a bikini top. Not in a way to be going the "sexy ringmaster" I just think she looks cute showing some tummy lol. Either that, or a shirt using the same pattern as the one there, just with cotton, short (may cap sleeves) and a little off the shoulder. Designedforsmiles: Ooh, the megaphone sounds like a grea idea! And I was pondering on a cane too. Maybe a wooden dowel with a large bead on top? Thanks so much for these awesome suggestions!
Ban Sidhe : These bustiers you've made are very pretty, your girl is wow ! The summer dress is lovely too ! AnimePudding : This outfit looks great, I like this style very much ! Enchanted : Nice top ! ^^ A few more lace dresses I finished... One steampunk outfit... And I also wanted to try something a bit more casual that usual...
I have some pics to share ! New Corsette by ban sidhe, on Flickr New Corsette by ban sidhe, on Flickr
Love all the new pics! Thanks for sharing. I now have a minifee body to sew for so I'm rummaging through my patterns to see what will work. I'm expecrting that my Ellowyne patterns will be easily adapted to a minifee body. Does anyone have any favorite patterns? Eglantine, thanks for the tip on Ebay. I look for so many other things on Ebay, I never thought to look for lace.
i love the idea of this thread!! i just started to sew last week and have already made 3 shirts and 2 tops for my minifee while i await her arrival!! Candy kitten, i love the dresses you made, i think i should attempt a dress next!
ban great underbust corset. solves the problem of which bust size it works for neatly cute outfit enchanted
