Wearables Sewing Adventures Mega Thread

Hello all! I am working on making a hoodie for my MDD doll. I'm going to use the Doll-Candy pattern for a zip-up hoodie to make things less intimidating (but I will probably try my hand at making a "normal" hoodie with a pocket as well at some point).

Anyways, I am super excited and will post pictures at a later date Right now I'm trying to gather materials and learn about how to use my sewing machine for real lol. If anyone has any tips or tricks for a complete beginner please let me know, but I'm also doing research for myself and not asking to be "spoon-fed" lol. SO EXCITED!

 

Thank you so so so much for this advice... I realize that there's some non-beginner aspects to the hoodie (the zipper really scares me), so I'm going to do some test-runs and try more basic clothing using the same pattern... Like modifying it to be a basic T-shirt, then maybe trying out the stretch fabric, etc. I want to build up to the hoodie... I'm really excited to start sewing and hopefully one day I can take part in the wonderful challenges I see here!
