Sevter - 65cm elf male

Dec 11, 2013

    1. Sevter is a scholarly mage type ... so I might have to backup and give him a smoother looking body, though this one might be fine as long as I don't go too much further with the definition. I can always do up another more muscular body if I have the urge to do up a warrior such.

So far modeling in 3ds max, with plans to do a base print on my Makerbot and then go from there with apoxie sculpt or whatever I dig out of the pile of stuff in the closet.

Right now just using different colors to keep track of where I want to have things cut up and jointed. Hoping this won't take me too long to finish the base model ... once I get a few other projects out of the way anyway. Probably have more going on after the holidays are over.

    2. Looking good so far! I'm digging the proportion of shoulders to hips. How are you liking the Makerbot? I might be looking into a home printer soon myself, and I'm sort of shopping around.

    3. This is going to sound terrible ... but I haven't printed anything yet and I've had it for a few months now. :sweat Just had a ton of stuff going on and other non-computer projects have kept me busy.

I went with the Replicator 2, the newer larger version, based on a friend who has the first gen Makerbot and loves it. After seeing all the things he's been doing with his, I just bit the bullet. But I do have a half done set of game dice I'll print up here soon and give a better rundown on the thing.

I'm working off reference renders from a Poser figure I morphed up how I wanted for this first one...so a bit more normal than stylized I guess. So I can't claim this one as entirely all my own. For this body I wanted to just get it done and get the joint mechanics worked out, so I took a bit of a shortcut.

    4. Finally getting back to my project ... life kinda took a steaming dump on me after the first of the year and since recovering from that I've been doing non-BJD projects and learning how to make ladies shoes.

But once the bug bites there's really no shaking it. :o

I've been thinking about my hip joints, though I've just gotten back to getting more of the leg modeled up. Though I can't decide if I want to do regular or double jointed...I think right now I've stared at too many pictures of doll bodies.

Also trying to figure out how many sizes I want to go for. I can have my printer do however thick of walls I feel like (when I can get the extruder to cooperate all the way through...we're having issues getting along right now) so I think I can do a print at 60-70cm and maybe a smaller size (but I haven't figure out what yet).

    5. Just a couple quick shots of the legs. I need to fiddle with the calf muscles a bit more, but the base shape is there. Not 100% on how I want to do the knees yet...
