Serendipity Mini including Sharmin discussion thread

Feb 21, 2005

    1. Thank you for the response! It makes me more confident about Serendipity's quality. :)

    2. According to an email I recieved from Serendipity, the 7-yr bodies were made to be about the same proportions as an MSD, while the 14-yr mini bodies were meant to be about the size of the more slender Unoa-types.

    3. I had the old type body and IMO he couldn't pose for crap although the sculpt and the resin were beautiful. I did see and hold a new one, and it was really impressive, and quite beautiful. I think that both Sher and Honestrabbit have the new ones, you could PM them.

    4. Yep, I had checked the measurements of the 7-yr body against my Volks MSD before, and they are very similar, which is why I am interested in it at all. ^_^ I want something quite like the bodies I already have, but also a little different, and not too much taller or shorter.

Thanks for the tip, Stella Maris. :)

I'm having qualms about the elbow now. I've seen some pics on DoA where the elbow sculpt looks a bit stiff/unnatural when bent at some angles. My dolls wear short sleeves alot so the elbow is important to me since it will be visible most of the time. The posing still looks fabulous, though. *thinks it over*

    5. oo i missed this! Yes Shan I have the new 7 year old body, it's on my girl Charles girl I named Charlotte Eglantine (Charlie) -- it's awesome. AWE-SOME. I love how well she can pose, she stands like an utter champ, and she can sit in a billion ways that my other dolls can't. She is beautiful and smooth, I really love her.

She might have a wee bitty of an elbow thing - I will have to look at her again, but from my point of view, given the other billion plusses she has going for her, it doesn't bother me. I didn't really like her hands, as BOTH are fists, so I did get new hands for her which hopefully will arrive soon....

I chose the regular skin (not pinkish) because the pinkish, by itself, was gorgeous, but next to other dolls it was rather pink.

She's the same size as my blue fairy/dod girls, basically.

    6. Thank you, sher! ^_^ Your opinion means alot. Thanks for the tip about the pink skin, also....I guess it would be too pink for my dolls, also. Normal it is.

How are her hands changed out? Can you change them easily or do you need to restring the whole arm/torso part?

    7. I have an old Serendipity Sharmin and while I love her, I'm not so much in love with her body and her skintone won't match Serendipity's newer bodies--she's got a more yellowy tone than the current white/pinky/peachy make.

...so here's my question. What the heck else can you PUT a Sharmin head on without it looking like a pinhead? I've already had a go at Volks MSD and an SDC boy, and Angel Region without success. I lack access to other slim female bodies like the Volks SDC girl body or Unoa but I'm curious...would they fit at all?

It bears mentioning that Sharmin--at least, my iteration of her--has a tiny, TINY hole in her head for the string to go through, but I have no problem with widening this to accomodate an S-hook. That, or I use the random chunk of resin (looks kinda like a huge rat turd, speaking as a former owner of huge rats -_-;; ) in place of an S-hook.

      Any help is greatly appreciated!

    8. Try Serendipity's Mini 14 yrs body in "pinky".

    9. Be careful.. I got an old head and a new pinkish body and it was no match what so ever. Similar things have happened to my friend trying to match up her SR bodies and heads. If you want a perfect match you will have to send the head plate to SR to make a perfect colour match body, or find out when the head is from and send them the date then they can match it. Hope this helps, but trust me, dont make the mistakes I did! :)

    10. ...do they custom-match bodies? o_0 I figured the pinky resin wouldn't, as I've seen a new Alice in that skintone and it's very pale and very pink. I have no idea how old my girl is, as I got her second-hand but she has the older body with the funny ball-less wrist joints, etc...hence my decision to try and find a replacement. I was contemplating the mini 14 y/o body in "normal" skintone (vs. pink or white) and taking my chances with that; at least then the neck's still likely to fit.

Thanks for the input, guys! It's really not that I hate her body, I've just done all the sueding and wiring I can to it and I still feel bad for her posing alongside my other kids. -_-;; Poor dear.

    11. They do custom-match bodies, takira, you just have to ship the head to them and pay for the body and their standard shipping rate and they will take care of it for ya~ ;) If you go to their website and email their customer service, they usually respond *very* quickly! :D

    12. my sharmin head fits my mythdoll body. Actualy the resin doesn't match ether but.. I have the opposite problem.

    13. I have an oldskin alice head on a pinky white valencia body, and though the match isn't perfect, it's really not that noticeable. I have plans to put my newskin Sharmin on the mini14 girl pinky white as well. I'm really not sure of any other bodies that it would go on though >_<

    14. Okay, I broke down and ordered the mini 14 y/o body and I got it in "natural" instead of the pinky just because the natural looked a little closer to her rather-yellowy self. Will see how it turns out. If I love the body but the color's too far off to bear I might send them the headcap and ask for a resin match (didn't read that post until I'd placed the order, naturally. -_-;; ); what an awesome thing to be able to do.

Thanks for the input, everybody! Here's hoping Kitsune can look forward to a life with less suede and wire.

    15. I'm getting Laidoll Doll Dream bodies for my spare Serendipity heads. I've heard that Latidoll bodies work too.

    16. Ok, my sharmin has been a nekkid little forest imp for a few months...and now I am thinking of changing her look.
I am wondering what clothes fit her best...Tonner? MNF? or do you make your own?
I am not sure of what her new faceup will be but I have a very nice long red wig that she looks wonderful in...and a MNF sexy school girl oufit that I think she can wear...
so what kind of clothes and wigs work for her?

Its either change her look or sell her...because Shu-Shu is calling to me...

    17. Well, Sharmin is a slim bjd, so I'm guessing softly she walks would fit, and mnf and i think they have sharmin clothing on dollmore? Yep, just checked, not the biggest selection, but pretty decent. My mnf can wear friends2bmade pretty well, little baggy, but cute still.

    18. Teen Trends stuff fits really well. And Unoa stuff like skirts (no fitted jeans - Unoa hips are larger) and shirts for small busted Unoas. And the same goes for Minifees. The Serendipity bodies are the same general size of Unoa/MF, but they are just less voloptuous. As long as you keep that in mind there is a lot for Serendipity girls these days...

    19. ok that helps me some...I put her in the Sexy School girl outfit from Luts for Minifees and she looks good in it..skirt's a little loose but she can wear it low slung....
another question...is she limited? as I don't see her for sale on Dollmore..only sold out...
I bought her second hand, and she has all three ear sets. I am still considering selling her to get Shu-shu...I do like bustier girls..and other than the Odelia I am trying to sell they all are small breasted...

what do you think would be a fair price for a doll like this if I were to sell her ?

      anyone have an idea?

    20. 350-400 Thats about close to the going price.. not including shipping.
Dollmore is never going to sell them again.. but I don't know if Serendipity will or not.

    21. thanks! I did go to the Serendipity site and it says sold out...so maybe never again for them too...

    22. Hello, sorry if I post this thread in wrong discussion board >_<

Why the body that dollmore sales of serendipity does not match with any of the Serendipity official page?? O_o

Which skin tone is supossed to be the dollmore's body? normal, pinkskin or white? O_o

And, 42 cm body is "14 yrs old" of serendipity??

    23. I thought that Dollmore were discontinuing SR bodies and dolls. I think the ones on the website are the last of their stock. Those ones will have the old-style bodies.

The ones on the SR website are the new dolls and bodies, which is why the skintone may be different to the older SR dolls on dollmore.

There are 14 yr old 42 cm type SR bodies, and 7 year old ones I think. The 14 year old one is more mature, and the 7 more child-like, but they are still both 42cm.

      Hope that helps :)

    24. It looks like Dollmore is selling the older style mini Sharmin/Alice body (Dollmore is showing it with an Alice head). The body I see at Serendipity is the new 14-year body used on Freyja (more shapely, and I believe more posable). So the answer is that the body at Dollmore might be NONE of the colors listed for the Freyja body - if you notice, every other Serendipity item on Dollmore is SOLD OUT - the body they have may be old Sharmin/Alice stock.

      Carolyn

    25. But you are telling me that new Serendipity body has not the waist "joint"? (It's a torso in one piece? > I don't know how to name it XD)

      Dollmore reply:

And also, another question about Serendipity. You sell one body of Serendipity, but it is only girl? and which kind of skin?
=> it's a girl body, for sharmin or alice.. and it's a Pinkish Normal skin.

-> Then, this is the body they are selling >_<

Anyone have purchased it? Resin matches?

    26. The new mini-14-year-old girl body, at least, has an unjointed/single-piece torso. I just got one for my older Sharmin girl to replace her old-style body (like the ones Dollmore is selling off). I got mine in the normal skintone and the match with Kitsune's sorta creamy-colored resin is just about perfect. The body poses like a dream, stands great in heels, the hands are lovely...I really can't say enough about it, especially compared to her old body.

Overall if you were looking to buy a Serendipity doll, or a head and body to put together, you've got a better chance at matching skintone if you go with the newer bodies. The old style bodies can be made to pose fine with enough sueding and wiring but in my experience you have to be pretty patient to make it work.

.........I have no idea if that addressed any of your burning questions or not. -_-;; But there it is.

    27. Here are my sweet Karriealice (Alice) and Kristamin (Sharmin) with their friend Norma (Tonner Hermoine Grainger):fangirl: I love them so much!! Kristamin/Sharmin was my very first BJD 2-1/2 years ago.

    28. Waaaaah! I miss my ISMY boy. The new Serendipity body is so much nicer to pose though.

    29. I love the sulky-faced Serendipity sculpts...although there don't appear to be many on the board. Alice is one of my favourite dolls - I get pathetically excited if I see other owner photos of her on the board  I think the Serendipity sculpts are really individual and have a lot of character. As beautiful as I find the old girl bodies, the older ones are a pain to pose...mine's being restrung by a friend at the moment. However, they have a really delicate look to them that I love. They have pronounced clavicles, long slender fingers and for some reason, oddly long toenails

    30. I had a Noel and miss her a lot. I really loved her but ended up selling her for a different size doll and now I sort of regret it. And I LOVED her resin. She was silky smooth and so white and she actually posed really well too. Now that I have a Narin I really wish I still had her. I think she'd be a nice companion for him.

    31. I agree about the body sculp, and you gave a perfect description right down to the "pronounced clavicles"!

I only have the body (with an Unoa faceplate), but I adore it. She fits in very nicely with the more slender type MSDs. I am thinking of getting an Sharmin head one of these days because I have always been attracted to it.:aheartbea

    32. Hehe thanks! :chibi I don't think the slenderness is to everyone's taste, but I adore how ethereal and innocent it makes them look. I also have a Unoa faceplate for a Serendipity body - they are good fits IMO. I like Sharmin, she strikes me as the only SR sculpt that doesn't have their trademark sulky cheek look! Do post pictures if you get one. I love how you can change her ears as well, I think that's a neat idea.

    33. I am very attached to my Serendipity dolls. I have two Sharmin, Grace. pale skin with tats and a fairy persona who loves the color white, frills, lace snd refuses to wear a wig, and her sister Georgia who has regular skin tone long black hair and likes to dress in jeans and casual clothes. Exact same sculpt, very different dolls. That is what I love about Sharmin The adaptability of the face the slenderness of the body and the ability to become anyone you want her too. I LOVE HER EARS. I also have a 5 year old Freyja, Rosie. She is so posable with her extra leg joint. She is big enough to dress with ease but small enough to carry around and take with. I just spent five days in the hospital with double pneumonia and she kept me company and gave me a lot of comfort. She was a hit with the nurses as well. I love my other dolls but my Serendipity girls are my friends.

    34. I don't have mine yet, am I still allowed in here? XD

I have a question about the normal skin color...anyone have an Elfdoll to compare it to? :sweat Just because I'm curious, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Anywhos, I got to play with a MNF last night and man the littler buggers can stand like no one's business! It's my understanding that the new bodies can kneel better right?

I can't wait until I pay Gabe off, maaaaaaan, he's so cute. :D

    35. catwhiskers I hope you are on the mend. That's awful to have to spend 5 days in the hospital. It's good that you were able to have your little Rosie with you. My dollies always make me feel better.

Here is a picture of the Noel that I miss. She belongs to Alterego now.

    36. Ooo! Ooo!
You're getting a Serendipity boy?? or a minifee? I'm confooozed.

Anyway, my two Serendipities are just such a joy. Rosalie is a Sharmin head (soon to be reunited with a Serendipity body) and ... dang I'm going to just break down and call him Mello, because that's what I think every blessed time I look at him ... is an Alice boy.

Love the faces, love the size, love the little squirts altogether. I can't say enough. :)

    37. I got my first Serendipity boy just last week and he's awesome. >< It's a Serendipity Charles. His body is enroute and he's naked like a jaybird. I adore the little snit.

I have Elfdolls to compare him to, but unfortunately he's a White skin doll. If you're still interested, I can take a couple snaps of that after I get off of work. You might be able to extrapolate a little about the normal color by comparing my pics to the sample pic Serendipity has of their 3 skin tones on their website.

    38. Baakay - I'm getting a Serendipity Valencia! :aheartbea

Eidolon Tree - That would rock! Thanks soooo much!

    39. I have a Serendipity Sharmin and I remember buying a lot of shoes for Sharmin. Most of the standard doll shoes I got at Kemper were much too wide, though their French style doll shoes fit a bit better. And as I posted above, Juju had shoes specially made for Sharmin and Alice (sold on Ebay) and those are very slim like Sharmin's foot and a bit long to keep Sharmin's big toe from poking up the top. I did try to get those Sharmin shoes on my Narae and there was no way her foot would fit in them.

Note - my Sharmin was not the final Sharmin body (didn't they update the body when they came out with Freyja?) I have the first Sharmin body and the second headcap attachment method (magnetic)

      Carolyn

    40. Is Charles a new model?

I was originally looking for a more mature boy, but I keep coming back to his picture. I thought it would help if I could see other peoples pictures. :sigh I've only been able to find 3 on DoA: one's blank, one's a girl, and one's definitely not my style.

    41. I was wondering what companies whit eskin would match Serendipities white skin?

I have a Dobby head who is wanting a body and I was thinking of a white skin Dollmore girls body. Would the resin match? Or would it be horribly off?

    42. He's not new, but he's not all that popular, either. I love him, personally. I thought he was awesome from pictures, but when he finally arrived in hand, I realized he was perfect. >< I think in all my hunting, I've only ever seen 3-4 total. I ordered Andry's body last week, so it should be arriving shortly. Having difficulty finding someone to do his faceup like how I want it....

His brother Dobby is cute as a button, too. He's so worried. I don't normally dig the cute things so much, but those two? Kryptonite.

    43. The more I poke around in Serendipity threads the more I am tempted to put the rest of the layaway on my credit card! :sweat

    44. I might email them one of these days and check on that. I seem to remember reading about it on their message board, and they mentioned that it wouldn't be very cost-efficient for overseas people. It's worth a try, though; I don't mind paying extra shipping.

I think Dollmore matches Serendipity pretty well, but I'm not sure... Maybe you could request a comparison in the picture request gallery.

    45. Okay, it's a little late, but just for the record, Serendipity's new "normal" resin does indeed match the older, yellower resin very well; I haven't seen their "pinky" or "white" skintones up close (at least, not that I knew were the skintones of their present bodies), but it's a start.

Let me just say that I can't get over how nice Kitsune's new body is; it's the mini 14 year-old body in normal skintone. It's a one piece torso, which makes her look pretty arched when she's lying down, but to be fair, there wasn't a heck of a lot of movement in her old torso, even with the joint. Her wrist-balls allow her to actually pose her hands in ways even wiring wouldn't have made possible before, and she can point her toes to wear heels. She also has swivel joints in her upper thighs and cut-outs at the backs of her knees so she can do suwarrico (though I find I have to prop her back aginst something when she does it or she tends to topple backwards).

Some comparison pictures, in case anyone was curious:

Old body (forgive the lack of head; these were the pictures from when I had this body up for sale)

New body! Forgive also the heaps of ugly clutter in the background of the one picture, it was snapped in a hurry, but it shows how nice her new curves are and how she can point her toes; also, you can see how nice the resin match is.

I will say that compared to her old body, she's got perkier boobs and kinda scary nipples (debating whether to sand them), and her hips are wider than her original ones were. She can still fit pretty much all her old clothes, but some of the tonner skirts she had are borderline too tight now across her booty. Stretch fabrics are my friend and hers. -_-;; Her feet are also a tiny bit bigger, so she's a little better suited to MSD sized shoes instead of the Narae/Unoa sized ones she fit so well before (those still fit, but again, they're a squeeze and they didn't used to be).

..........mostly I just wanted to show off her new body. >_> Hopefully someone will find this edifying, though.

    46. That's really helpful Takira! (and Kitsune's gorgeous!) I'm seriously tempted to trade my two old SR bods in for new ones, if the normal skinton matches the old yellow. Does she stand and sit well? With sueding my SR bodies stand and sit ok, but they can't do much beyond that.

On a side-note, what IS it with Serendipity dolls and their pointy nippless-of-doom?? *_*

    47. Thanks for the compliments! ^_^ She stands and sits great now; the only time I have issues with her being tippy is when I try to make her do the suwaricco thing, which was unfathomable to even attempt with her old body.

The normal skintone is a pretty standard-looking, yellow-beige-sorta color. Kitsune was one of the older Sharmins, as she had the body with absolutely NO wrist-ball at all (you can see in the pics). I have no regrets with this body, though it wasn't a cheap upgrade--about $250 and almost another $50 to ship to the US. I didn't trade in my old one, though, I just sold it for half what the new bod cost me; it's currently modeling an unoa head in Australia these days. Her parts and pieces get around...

The boobs...are probably my least-favorite part of it, but they're not so bad. Not as scary as large-bust MNF or nothin'. o_0 She just, ah, got very mature all of a sudden. Her gentleman friend (a CH Little Junior) was a bit startled, poor boy. ;)

    48. Hmm yeah, I'm still on the fence about the upgrade! My girls have all Unoa shoes, rather than MSD, so the large feet would annoy me slightly...but I'm being won over by the poseability of the new one! I think yours is the first review of them I've seen, I didn't know they have the suwarrico option.

One of my SR bods is sporting a Unoa faceplate too, the resin does match well. I guess you can always do a bit of breast sanding if her gentlemen friend gets a little overwhelmed ;)

    49. You could possibly sand the feet a little, but they're pretty nicely shaped (versus the skeery big toes her old body had, endearing though her wonky feet were). The suwarrico-ness isn't like Volks does it with carving in the hip joint, but I think the rotating thigh works better. It's best done in a skirt so you can see what you're pulling on.

      I think the only other thing you'd need to consider is that I don't THINK this is an ISMY body--it's the 14 y/o girl body. If their offer is to replace bodies with ISMY bodies, I, uh.......have no idea what to tell you, as I've never even touched one. -_-;;

Azrael insists he doesn't mind the boobs. He just blushes when he does. :p

    50. just wondering if anyone might have a comparision pic between the normal and pinky tones? i asked in the photo request gallery but didnt get a response, thought maybe the serendipity thread would be better

    51. How often does Serendipity restock? Because I've been checking and they seem to be out of their Freyjas.

I know its because of their eyes but is it likely they'll restock soon?

    52. Have you checked Eluts? They sell Serendipity as well. I just got a Serendipity Freyr from them. :)

    53. Check Dolls and Friends too... she may have a Freyja or two in her store!
I think her ID here is kathynot.

      Good luck!
      Raven

    54. Both ELuts and Dollmore have all Serendipity dolls as out of stock or sold out. It's been like that for about a month now. I keep telling myself that if I want Charles I better go ahead and get him. I'm just not sure if I'll like having him as mush as I like looking at his picture. Yeah, I'm weird like that.

    55. I have a Serendipity body that I believed belonged to a Sharmin. The body is smaller and more petite then an Unoa, Narae, or MiniFee. Some of the clothes that would fit these bjds nicely could look quite baggy on a SR body. For the most part you can fudge it.

Here is a pic I found here on DOA showing the body types:

Narae, Unoa, Sharmin, ?. Notice the difference with the waist and hips.

      • x 1
    56. Yep, she's a slim little thing. Definitely in the same scale, though.

As for quality, I'm not thrilled with the way she poses. She can't sit unsupported, and her hands have a very limited range of motion.

    57. I've heard that Serendipity heads are a little strange. So just a quick question about them - how well do they attatch to other bodies? I was thinking about getting a Dollzone Mo, and then a Valencia head, and sharing a body until I've got the money for another, but then I was looking at AOD, and their bodies are less expensive, and if I wait one week longer, I'll be able to buy Valencia's body there.

So, how does Valencia's head fit with other bodies? Pictures and commentary are appreciated.

    58. Apparently, it's ONLY Valencia that has a weird head attachment thing. From what I've seen, it's similar to the Pipos Baha style-- but I'm not sure. Someone on the board tried to attach a Valencia head onto the Serendipty (14 yr mini) girl body, and it wouldn't fit. :( (He ended up selling it and getting a Supia Yisol instead.)

    59. I thousand apologies if I am being an idiot and asking stupid questions, but I checked the forum and couldn't find an answer. . . what does AOD stand for? I may want to get my girl a new body someday, if I can find one that will fit her faceplate, because her 's has no waist joint. *_*
