I get customs charges if something comes from the States or other countries (if the item is declared over 25 dollars in value, anyways). But customs pays ZERO attention to logic, it seems. I had a doll shipped via EMS from China and it was declared at 5 dollars. If I was a customs person I would wonder why someone would pay 50 dollars for EMS shipping on something worth 5 dollars. XD But yeah, I do get customs charges, it's not insufficient postage, it's customs.

Really? That's interesting... I know the one I bought off of ebay was done through the global shipping program, I have no idea how they work that. I had to pay customs up front on him which was pretty expensive. The other I got charged customs on, I'll have to find to box to see how it was declared. And take a closer look at anything else I get in that I'm charged customs on to see what it's marked as. I also want to look as maybe it wasn't duty I was charged, it was taxes. It might have been taxes I had to pay, not necessarily duty..
I'll pay more attention!

You aren't always charged customs fees when something crosses the border. There are customs, brokerage fees, taxes & duties, etc. When I order DVDs, I don't always get hit with fees. In that case, I think it's based on if the item is available in Canada = taking away business from local = charged import tax.
I once was charged for some items from the states but they insisted it wasn't customs. That's when I found out it was brokerage fees. The shipper used a courier, not the local postal service which is why the fees.
The last doll I got came from Australia and I think I was charged GST... Fees in Canada can really be all over the place.

I went and read a bunch on the Customs website yesterday and you are SO RIGHT. So many ifs and buts and provisos and exemptions and UGH. Made my head spin. I'm going to keep an eye on parcels that come in and will start asking more questions about any charges that are applied, and challenging anything I think shouldn't be there...

2 of the 4 dolls (oh god what happened.. FOUR now..) I have in transit should be here this week! So looking forward to box opening and new face ups and all sorts of fun stuff.. This will be my first foray into having to do a FULL face up. So far I've just done enhancements and additions. Eyebrows are terrifying me..

 

That IS utterly ridiculous... I have never have an item take 5 days to clear customs. Crossing my fingers all is WELL for you!!!

 

I had a doll come from the States not that long ago and he was through customs in 12 hours. And that was the longest I'd ever seen. I'm mad on your behalf...

I had two of four second hand doll arrivals today! Still have to hang out in here, though, while I wait for my twin sculpts... Same sculpt coming from two different people, both found in the marketplace. LUCK. XD

 

YAY!!!! Happy dance!!! It sounds like from your other post he arrived all in tact and in good shape? No customs inspection or anything to mess up the packing? (aside from the box sitting in a puddle...)

I know it's more like the winters we USED to get but it seems ENDLESS!!! I can't wait for outside photoshoots!! And I really can't wait to see outdoor photo shoots of your boy. Man he is something else...


*wiggles* I have a delivery coming Monday morning of one second hand doll and another shipped via EMS from Australia today... Might arrive end of this week as well!

One of last week's second hand arrivals on the left (Angel of Dream 'Jimi' - now YinYing- with face up by me) with a second hand arrival today (Doll Family 'XiangYi' - now 'Minie) on the right!


I did a box opening for YinYing (and an Impldoll Eugene) last week! Box opening for 'Minie will happen either late this week or next week.. we're waiting on someone else for that so it's complete!

I just bought my RS Mei from the marketplace and paid for her last night! The anticipation of receiving my first doll is killing me!

 

My RS Mei arrived today! I am so excited for my first doll! I can't wait to give her some hair, clothes, and eyes.

Well, I've officially put a payment on an IH Freezia. I'll be done paying in May, so I'll be hanging out here until then! Hi!
She'll be the sister of my Breakaway, Corn. I've always wanted a Gentle Freezia for the character, but she's so hard to find and this girl is lovely, so I just couldn't let her go. Her name will be Victoria

 

I have two trades going on in the marketplace! One for a BBB Lucky Girl and one for a 5stardoll Amy with boy body. I can't wait for my little ones to get home! They're my first on-topic resin dolls!

 

We, me and my girlfriend, bought Soom Ai, in addition to our two. =) Charming child should come to us at the end of May. =)
We are looking forward to her arrival and hope that she will love our home =)

 

I'm joining the waiting flock. Only today I made the second payment for a LTF Ante. It is a private layaway, found the doll on ebay. I am so excited! I will make the last payment in two to three weeks, so she will be here some day in June. I am so longing for her!

Hello every one! Sems like its the first time i join the waiting room for second hand dolls, though I already own 6 dolls XD
So, I'm here to wait for my Soom Beryl WS. she is from 2008 original release and I had short layaway and I made the last payment today. Seller will ship her tommorow, and she has to be ehre on Manday XD XD I'm super super exited, becouse Soom 2008 MD girls are my grail dolls, and I already own tow of them and now Beryl! I've been wishing for her since 2009 when I saw her first!

 

I have just bought one of my grail heads, an unmodded vampire SP Breakaway 05 !
So excited for him to get here

 

And just bought a body ^^;

 

Well, I'm about to start the official wait for a parcel containing a second hand 5Stardoll Aiden coming all the way from america, so I'm not expecting a short wait either. While I'm waiting... does anyone have any tips for removing cigarette smoke out of resin? I was planning on just throwing out his elastic and soaking him in soapy water, but I'm not sure if that will get all of it out...

Now just the head, which was shipped today from Spain. Hopefully won't be too long, and hopefully it will match.

Getting smoke out of resin, I've never had that problem, but maybe see if Fabreeze is okay to use on dolls ?

 

I was thinking about that. I'm not planning on using one of his hands as it'll likely be replaced with the claw one, so maybe after soaking him if he still smells I can test the febreze on that piece.

I've got to soak the body I got, the previous sueding has left sticky black residue everywhere >.<
Looks like I'll be spending the weekend bonding with just a body untill the head gets here xD

I'm sure it'll be fine......the glue used is still tacky, which means it should soak off okay right ? I'll just get some of those triangle makeup sponges so I can rub it a bit.

That's what I'm removing. Then I'll use actual suede to suede him lol. Should be simple enough, never done it before but I get the concept....
And it'll be a nice bonding project to keep me occupied until the head gets here....then gets back from the faceup artist lol

 

Ooh, that's the strangest glue I have ever seen. Like glue tape. xD I'd have a go at pulling at it, but Idk, soaking it or freezing it would help, I think. I used hot glue when I sueded my first doll... but in the end I am really prone to picking at things and it didn't last long worked while it was in there though.
But yeah, it'll be a good bonding project, hopefully c: (I'm so glad I learnt how to do my own faceups because I am terrified about sending my dolls abroad to the point that I would struggle returning a damaged doll to the company)

I am so impatient it's a wonder I ever manage to order brand new dolls from the company... it's been about a week, almost two since I started talking to the seller of my future Aiden? Tired of waiting now can I have my sad bubby plz? xD He should be shipped today and then I only have hope that his journey from america is safe and short, and he escapes customs safely... am I being too optimistic? I've only had one package from America, a Realpuki Soso from DDE, and he got caught for a reasonable fee...

 

Wow that's lucky ! Everything I've had has been hit >.< (There was one painful time where the seller marked it as twice what I paid so I got ht hard)
I'm impatiently waiting for my head, it's only been a week lol. Though....he was a bit of an impulse buy whilst I got stuck in the DZ waiting time....6 months I think the wait is in there atm. Fortunately I've found a lovely artist in the UK so he won't be gone for long.

 

Oh wow I didn't realize we had a second hand waiting room Last week I purchased a second hand Zuzu Peter Pan Nor and it shipped last Saturday. So I'm expecting him any day now! My second doll will probably be arriving before my first XD;

 

This is my first second hand doll that wasn't from a friend in my local community, and my other 2 were from chinese dealers, I think. But omgosh, did you find out why they listed it as twice the price? D:

Yeah, I know how you feel. I've almost been waiting 2 weeks I think, and he's been shipped, but I am still reaalllyyy impatient about it xD few more weeks now...

Oh wow I didn't know they had a room for second hand dolls I'd join but fortunately my girls body arrived from the UK yesterday took 10 days and my local post office tracking refused to update but I'm glad she's home and all together!! Her head was second hand as well but my parents were purchasing it from a friend of mine

Hope everyone gets their dolls soon, I know how impatient I was waiting 10 days and that's pretty darn quick for a first class international package!

Could have it blushed to match maybe, I've blushed a head to match a body before but I'm far too nervous to offer it overseas...
Otherwise, I guess you would have to sell it D: which really sucks!

Aaahh I'm gonna feel blessed if my boy takes 10 days xD I'm expecting 2-3 weeks. Been about... mmm... 4-5 working days now since he's been shipped. The seller forgot to give me the tracking code, but I'm not sure I'm bothered enough to ask...

 

I bought another body. The seller was so lovely and took so many pictures in different lightings. It's got no yellow tones to it, hoping this one matches.
I just like the colour of the head more than the body, and as the body matches the Juri head I'll sell it as a whole, I've cleaned it up and it's nicer than when it arrived here. At least then whoever buys it will have a perfect match.

 

Agh my Zuzu Nor just arrived at my house, and I'm stuck at work till close later tonight. 5 hours till I can unpack him ;A;/
