Aesthetics Second faceup!!

Oct 12, 2019

    1. Hi guys I’d love some critique on my second faceup!!! Also I’m the 3rd owner of this head so there’s some stains and areas on the face that picked up color a bit different, so please keep that in mind since there’s not much I can do about that!! She’s a minifee flam in the BW resin! Also she will be getting 3D lashes soon after I make edits based off any critique I’m given.
One last thing I’d love some recommendations for eyes for her since I can’t decide what to give her!
✨Em✨ on Instagram: “Hi guys sorry for the lack of inktober posts I’m gonna post them soon I’m just working on a few currently and I want them to be in order!…”

    2. She's adorable! The bottom eyelashes are well done! There is a little residue in her nose but not a big deal. The eyebrows are pretty good. The eyeliner is kind of thick but I figured it was a fashion thing like "cat eyes" or "smokey eyes" or something. She's cute! Everything gets better with practice. Also depends on materials. Acrylic paints (I haven't used them myself yet) are good. I've used watercolor pencils with chalk pastels but it isn't always as I planned. I think acrylics may work best.

Great 2nd face-up! (I have a normal skin FLAM too!) Congratulations!

As for eyes. I prefer glass with a stem. I've had half-backs, acrylic, and glass. The fun part of bjd's is they can always change! Mix it up until you love it! Then if things change, change her again! Different wigs, eyes and clothes can change her 100 times over.

    3. Thank you!! And yea I was going for the cat eye look on her plus there were some stains that I wanted to cover up and I thought that the cat eyes would cover it up!! It seems to have worked thought they are a bit thicker than I would have liked:(

    4. She’s so cute! It’s super exciting to get one of your grails~ After two other owners I’m sure she’s super happy to be with you!

I think the faceup looks good for a second attempt! My biggest piece of advice is to maybe go a little easier on the blush; she looks just a tad sunburnt, especially in contrast to the unblushed forehead. Generally you’d want a bit on the apples of the cheeks, perhaps a smidge inside the ears for some depth, maybe a little on the chin. You’ve sort of got a thick line from ear to ear, which starts to look a bit less like a natural blush.

I’m not sure if that’s a stylistic choice though! Every artist has their own style. What ultimately matters is how you feel about it! :3nodding:

    5. Thank you!! The amount of blush was a stylistic choice for me and I think I like it!! It’s different than my other doll so I’ll just have to get used to it!

    6. Nice then! It's really cool to see artists start developing a style~ It'd look especially cute with freckles! I'd love to see if you ever try some. Good luck continuing your faceup journey! :D

    7. I think you definitely have the right idea going! I like the overall shape of her brows and the color you chose for them, but looking at the way you painted the hairs it looks like they’re growing upside down, especially near the bridge of her nose. You’re going to want to thin your paints down almost to the consistency of water when you’re painting eyebrow hairs to make it a little easier to get thin strokes when you’re painting. Keep in mind that hairs by the nose bridge always grow upwards, usually diagonally towards the tail a little. The crosshatching where hairs can grow at a downward angle begins at the bridge and tail of a brow.

I like the thick eyeliner on her, and I think it turned out nicely. I think to make the eyes look a little more finished you’re going to want to add some contouring (if not eyeshadow) above the liner because with that super bright cheek blushing leaving that area blank looks unfinished. You might also want to consider using a darker color for her eyelashes, because it doesn’t make sense to have super blonde eyebrow matching lashes on a girl that’s wearing so much eyeliner. Most people put on mascara if they’re going to do winged eyeliner.

    9. Is looking good! The bottom eyelashes look great! Lips are nice too~ For me the eyeliner is quite thick. But I think that’s what you wanted, also she don’t have eyelids? Overall I think you’re making good progress^^.

    10. Her eyelids were very small and they got covered by the eyeliner :( I wish I didn’t have to make it so thick but there were stains on her face from her first owner that I had to cover up and in the end I do like it but I’m upset that her eyelids aren’t visible anymore

    11. adding some shimmer to her cheeks and high points of her face would give her some nice dimension
