Aesthetics Second faceup (first dollfie faceup)

May 14, 2024

    1. Seeking some general feedback and critique since this is my first time working on a dollfie and my second ever face up in general.

This is a DDH-07 with modded eyes to change their shape.
My biggest challenge with this was the eye mod since I was never able to get the putty I used to look very smooth or very cohesive with the rest of the face and in general my symmetry is not perfect.

      Materials used:
      • MSC UV cut matte
      • Zoukei-mura acrylic paint and thinner
      • Liquitex acrylic paint
      • Liquitex high shine lacquer
      • Faber Castell soft pastels
      • WAVE epoxy putty light
      • Amazon basics model brush set

    2. This is really good for your first anime face up and mod!

The putty on soft vinyl is challenging because you have to be careful not to squish the head or it could make cracks. and sanding heats up the vinyl making it more flexible and thus making the putty easier to cracked. if this happens before you do face up you can try to work a little more putty into the crack and then take your time to polish it smooth with high grit sandpaper to smooth it out but it may be fragile. again be careful that you don't work too fast and generate too much heat or the same problem can happen again.
Seeing a little demarcation line where the putty ends and vinyl begins is fairly common with these mods so don't stress too much over that part. I applaud you for trying the additive mod as your first mod and on soft vinyl which is an additional challenge. They are harder than subtractive mods so I hope you can be proud of what you accomplished with it :dance

Don't worry about asymmetry because these heads are asymmetrical to begin with. I think the eyelashes shape looks nice and the shape looks within a natural range of symmetry and harmonious. Your Len looks so super cute with this eye shape. you did a great job on his lips too.

a tip I have for you is for the inner eyelid. I recommend to sand a/o carve the eyelids a little bit thinner from the inside next time so the eyes can sit forward in the face a little bit more, starting with the lower eyelid, and checking the fit regularly to see if you need to take any of the upper too. It will help you see your dollfie's pretty eyes better and reduce the shadows caused by gaping :kitty2

    3. Thank you so much for this feedback :XD: especially about the eyelids I was wondering why they were having such bad gapping but that makes so much sense now!
Next time I do epoxy putty mods I'll keep this in mind too, I think I got too rough with it and I was definitely sanding really fast lol :sweat I'm probably not using a high enough grit sandpaper to finish it now that you mention it

Thank you too for the nice words this is really useful stuff I can use on my next head :kitty1
