Aesthetics Second Faceup Attempt c:

May 17, 2016

    1. I used acrylic paint, chalk pastels, and watercolour pencils. I didn't apply upper lashes.

    2. Very nice! She sort of has a Liv Tyler look in the first few images. (Although it might be the elf ears. :) )

    3. Thank you very much c:

    4. wow, gorgeous! especially those lips <3 and i must say for a second try this is all the more impressive *_*

    5. That's quite the improvement from your first one (which was already pretty though maybe a bit heavy on the freckles)! I really like how you've done the lips. Personally, I think maybe the lower lashes are a bit too heavy looking, but that's more of a matter of personal preference, they're very well done regardless. Great job!

    6. Thats a really lovely face-up I love the lips. :)

    7. This is incredible ! That freckles are amazing ! I'm curious, which sculpt is it ?

    8. Only your second faceup? You're doing terrific!

I prefer the detail of the brows and lashes in the first faceup, but you've learned realism through freckles and skin texture in the second. The lips looks nice too, with good lines and shade variation. The pencil-to-chalk blending of the brows is also very nice.

    9. She's so cute! I love the eyeliner and freckles :) The bottom lashes do look good, but I do agree that they are a tiny bit too heavy. I like the ones from the first, but that's just me. Either way she's beautiful

    10. Thank you! I got some more materials and watched more faceup videos, so I tried my best to do a better job, especially on the lips :D

Thank you. I agree, they're heavy looking. I like the shape and style, but not the size. I will have to figure out miniaturizing them nicely c:

Thank you so much :D. I'm very happy with how the lips turned out!

Thank you c: I watered down the brown acrylic paint more, and used acrylic thinner for the freckles on my second attempt. Came out much nicer than the first lol.

      She is a Feeple65 Siean c:

Thank you very much. I appreciate the amount of detail you included in your C&C.

I think I want to mix the style and details of both brow styles together for my next attempt. I want them to look detailed, but not overly bushy. So I'm going to try harder to draw the individual eyebrow hairs better, and achieve a nice gradient with them being denser at the ends and a bit more sparse and fluffier in the center.

I think the lashes in the first are better in terms of size, but I think I like the style of the second attempt quite a bit. So I'm going to try and do them on a smaller scale, and make them look more delicate. They look a bit too clunky as they currently are.

Thank you again c: I appreciate your comments!

Thank you c: I will definitely be trying to do smaller and more delicate lower lashes next time. Pretty much everyone is saying they're too big/thick lol. I appreciate your feedback c:

    11. If you're anything like me you'll be amazed how much you improve in only your first handful of face-ups.
I think the eyebrow shape in your second face-up is really really nice. Looking at the face overall I'll say that you seem to have a good eye for natural symmetry and the more you practice the easier it will be to paint highly refined details that create a very polished finished work.
And I saw you talking about your lower lashes in one vs. two. Very early on some people told me that they absolutely loved the super long eyelashes I was painting on my dolls and although I hated the way I had painted them (because I saw it as a failure) it made me realize that some of these things are subjective, and the decisions you end up making in these areas: thin neat eyebrows or wooly wild eyebrows? Perfectly blended faces or skin with a lot of natural texture marks? Short realistic eyelashes or long dramatic doll eyelashes? The answers to these questions will be the foundation of your artistic style. ;)
To this day I still paint most of my eyelashes super duper long, though they did get thinner and infinitely better looking over time. But embracing my mishap became part of my style.

    12. GREAT JOB! You are actually amazing.
An idea: make the freckles different sizes and colours sometimes. Nothing super drastic but have some looking light and faded while others are just... freckles :B!!! I think you may find it makes it look more natural.

    13. For a second faceup, that is incredibly impressive. I love the detail in the lips, those turned out perfect imo. But I also feel like your lower lashes are a bit too heavy in the fact that they're grainy--and because of that it's easier to tell they were done in watercolor pencil, less realistic.

Perhaps try out some different brands of colored pencils (I know some art stores are set up so you can get one pencil at a time rather than buy a whole set) and see which ones have the strongest pigment with the lightest touch, because the lighter your strokes are, the finer your lines, and then you can build them up to thick lashes without that grainy texture. I hear Faber Castels are a popular brand for some faceup artists o: and don't be afraid to sharpen your pencils to death--the finer your point, the finer and smoother your lines will be as well!

    14. Gosh this is wonderful for a second attempt! Keep up the great work!

The only thing that stands out to me is the lower lashes being so thick but that honestly can be a matter of taste.

    15. Thank you very much! I think I longer lashes, but I definitely want them to be more delicate and taper nicer c: I'm going to try experimenting more on my next faceup.

Thank you so much and thank you for the advice. I used a small paintbrush to dot some freckles, and then a larger paintbrush to flick the paint on in tiny dots. I'll try to add more variety next time I do freckles c:

Thank you. I'm not very happy with the graininess of any lines I make with my watercolor pencils :c I actually use Faber castel , and I'm very careful and make sure I have nice sharp points on the pencils D: I think the issue is my finishing spray. I used testors matte finish for the first, and krylon matte uv for the second, but they both didn't seem to have very nice "tooth" and didn't pick up the pastel or water color pencils very well. They seemed a bit splotchy or grainy :c I'm going to try ordering MSC since most people consider it to be the best.

I could also just be bad at pastel pencils, and need more practice :D or maybe I'm not spraying the finishing spray correctly... I do thin coats, and start off three as the base layer. I wait twenty minutes between each layer. Ugh. This just makes me want to get an air brush asap lol. I planned on getting one anyway, but this might make me get it sooner c:

Thank you. Yes, the lower lashes are too thick :c I need to work on making them more delicate and pretty! :D

    16. Oh no!!! Testors is known to have a lot of shoddy issues, but Krylon has been proven to cause serious damage to the resin. I really recommend that you don't use it, you may want to check out this thread for better alternatives!: /threads/all-about-sealants.605416/

Your sealant can definitely have an effect on the quality of your faceup, as some react differently with the mediums you use. I definitely support your thought to try MSC or perhaps one of the other alternatives I linked to in that thread, it can have a huge impact on your final product.

    17. Wow! second attempt? You obviously will be very good at this.

    18. Excellent job for only your second faceup! She looks great!

    19. Thedetail is amazing! Great job!

    20. I will definitely stop using Krylon D: I heard somewhere that this type of krylon was okay, but I'd rather not risk it! I'm going to order MSC for sure. Thank you very much!

Thank you c: I appreciate it!

      Thank you very much!

Thank you! I am hoping to get even better detail and more delicate lines :D
