Aesthetics Second Face up

Feb 22, 2020

    1. tho this could kinda be considered my 3rd try? my first try at her face I ended up cleaning off and starting over cause messed up the eyebrows bad. this attempt not the happiest with them, but cause I avoided them on my second round I didn't want to lose the rest of what I had done. Did some blushing on the hands and neck. Here is the link to the full size of the image in case it doesn't show everything all that well.

Materials I used were a mix of acrylic paint and watercolor pencils. I didn't use msc and did a sponge application of liquidtex matte medium in its place.

Over all I'm pretty happy with how she turned out but wanted to get some opinions cause first doll I did faceup on is going to get redone pretty soon cause I did a pretty bad job on my first try ><;;; [image of first one if you are curious. she is going to get the new faceup cause not liking the look]

    2. I really love your style!! The blushing and freckles are beautiful! Something I think could help you is using a smaller brush to apply the acrylic (really, really small!) so that the individual lashes and eyebrow hairs are more defined, and constantly sharpening your watercolor pencil and making sure it isn't dull. I think another tip for the eyebrows is sketching them in very lightly first, so you can get them where you want them and the right shape, but still easy to remove and start over until you are happy with the result, then start going in with the individual hairs and shading. Overall I think this is a great third attempt!! Also I love how you did the lips, so beautiful!

    3. I know this isn't a crtitique as such, but I love her hands. The attention to detail. I'm a pale-skinned freckly person myself and it made me smile - I always joke that I can tell when summer is starting because of how many more freckles start appearing all over the backs of my hands and fingers.
She reminds me of that :)

If you want more realism, the top side of her lower arms would probably be equally speckled. Not so much the wrists but the main muscle area below the elbow.

      Agreed, the lips are beautiful.

With the eyebrows, maybe changing the direction of the hair-strokes a little towards the ends? I think eyebrows hairs tend to become nearer horizontal at the outer edges?

      I love her freckle/redhead/celtic look.

    4. Thanks! I just got a set with smaller brushes so gonna try that on next face up! Also with the lips it was kinda a happy accident cause the paint was too waterly and dripped a bit and I liked how it looked so I rolled with it. (didn't want to wash it either cause couldn't remember the last time I sealed it xDD)

I'm so happy her freckles made you smile~ Thanks for letting me know about the upper arms too :0 super handy and easy to fix!

I'll have to give that a try on paper with the eyebrows. I have such a hard time with realistic eyebrows cause how I tend to draw them in a very cartoon ways in my drawings. (I also had a hard time figuring out where her eyebrows were on her sculpt without making her look pissed >w< )
