Shipping Sea (Ocean Vessel) Shipping Times from China to US?

Jan 28, 2024

    1. First of all, I want to state that I am aware that sea shipping takes about three months.

I ordered a few dolls directly from China (Dream Valley + Shipping Agent), and chose SAL shipping because it was cheaper. I guess the box was big and heavy (7kg and 75cm on the longest side) so I assume it was put on a ship instead of a plane. I wondered if anyone else has dolls shipped this way and how long it took.

Tracking says it was "handed over to the carrier" on January 04, 2024 and has not been updated since. It's been so long my tracking app wants me to archive the tracking number. So far, the package has been In Transit for 38 days.

So if anyone has had a doll shipped directly from China via SAL, what did your tracking updates look like? How long did it take a new message to appear after the package left the port? In fact, what did the last tracking message say before it arrived in the US? Meaning, did the tracking say it was put on an ocean vessel or airline?

    2. I have had items go for months with no update and the last message saying in transit. Shipping this way is more likely to get caught up in customs as well. I've had items hang in customs for 6 months in the US when using the cheaper shipping methods.

    3. I also waited for months (it was something like 6 months) the last time I had an item shipped from china via sea. for me It was a mistake on behalf of the dealer who didn't realise shipping times could be so different between sea and air mail. As you may know there are problems with major shipping routes being obstructed by Houthis and other pro-palaestine groups at the moment, making shipping times even slower. I don't want to be a downer but you could be waiting quite a lot longer.

    4. Oh no, I completely forgot about the issues with sea routes! Ah....I should have shipped them separately, then I bet they could have been put on a plane instead. :...(

I just hope these dolls are on a ship and not lost/stolen in China.

    5. Like midolls*melissa wrote, it's usual for the tracking to not be updated regularly with these shippin methods. So more likely it is delayed but not lost. Don't worry unnecessarily!

    6. As stated by the folks above, shipping by sea generally doesn't update tracking until it hits land. Time-wise, the shortest a sea shipment took for me was about 40 days, and the longest was over 70. It's really the luck of the draw, with how the weather is and other things that may impact how long it takes.

    7. S-SEVENTY? :o

I wonder when you deem things lost at that point?

    8. I'll be honest, I have the memory of a fly - by the point it arrived I had completely forgotten I had ordered it in the first place, lol! I'd probably consider something lost after 3-4 months with no update, but I've heard of people's stuff getting lost in transit but then suddenly appearing months later, so sometimes you never really know.

    9. The problem with shipping from China is first it needs to go through the Chinese custom. After the goods have been cleared and allow to leave the country, it needs to queue up to board the ship. And sometimes simply the system didn't update it's whereabouts

    10. I received my dolls yesterday. It was out and about for 61 days.
