So I've started making a BJD head, It's my first time trying to sculpt a bjd so help is very much appreciated I've already worked on him for a couple of weeks, but I thought I'd still post all the progress pics from the beginning to where I am now. So this is how I started, it was the first day I worked on him~ Second day~ Third day~ Continuing in the next post ~
Third day from the side~ His ear is completely in the wrong place xD Fourth day~ I redid his eyes and moved his entire forehead forward a bit and also started working on his ears properly. At first I had planned to just do a random head to sort of learn the basics of sculpting, but it was a lot more fun to do this guy. I've had him planned for ages but I've been afraid it would be to hard ^w^' Here is my original sketch of him. Now after I've started it doesn't feel as impossible as it did when i started xD Continuing in the next post ~
So now it is up to date! I am currently working on getting his eyes symmetrical and fixing his lower lip. I also need to do more details on the ears. And sorry for all the crappy mobile photos! I will take better photos from more angles next week~ Comments and critique is very welcome
I love your BJD head so far! He is very handsome. Could you tell us what type of clay you are using for your sculpture? Thanks. It looks nice and firm to work with.
greymalkin: Hi! Sorry for being so slow answering your PM ^^' I'll answer here to if anyone else wonders. I use ceramic stone-clay, do not recommend it for sculpting small things, it's very grainy ~ And thanks again for the kind words
So I've been working non stop on my head this week and he is almost done I just need to find some tiny tool to fix his mouth and eyelids. I am going to cast him in a different material before the end of the week so I can start working on the surface texture and some small details + sanding and priming. Here is the head on a body, I am so excited! I also tried drawing in his eyebrows with a marker...not really a great idea but it was fun to see what he might look like with a face~ His ears also needs a bit more work...
Very beautiful work! You're also very fast. Hard to believe this is your first head, he looks really advanced.
He's lovely! His mouth and brow bone stand are especially to my taste. The hollows in his temples feel a little strange to me, though. They feel a little long...but he's not human, so perhaps that was a specific choice? Again, he's really beautiful.
Ceramic stone-clay. I will check that out. I enlarged the view on my computer and I see what you mean about grainy. I just want to use something I can actually try sculpting with, not just adding, drying, and carving like Ladoll seems to be turning out. I love your guy's face! So good!
