This is a bit of a silly ask, but has anyone tried uncle/75cm clothing on 1/3/SD/60cm dolls? I have a few items bookmarked (tops, sweatshirts etc) and am just trying to figure out if this would be in the "cute oversized" territory or a terrible idea I'm having a hard time visualizing it so thanks a lot in advance if anyone has pics!
I have a few pullover sweatshirt type tops that are uncle sized and still look fine on my 60cm boys. Shirts and maybe jackets would be fine. Just a bit loose, which I don't mind. You might have to roll up the sleeves. There is no way that the pants or anything that is supposed to be nicely fitted like a suit would work. The 75cm guys are huge compared to the 60cm. The bottom half would be way too different, but the shirts can look a bit cute and oversized. The leg span is way too different between the two sizes. I don't think I have a picture of one of my boys wearing the sweatshirts, but to give you an idea... Tristan my Soom Idealian Gluino is sitting in this picture, and Elijah a 62cm Mystic Kids boy is standing... 100_2929 by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr
I once bought a bunch of clothes marked as sd or 1/3 scale on dollyteria for my DDS but once they arrived it became obvious some of them were clearly for much bigger dolls. (They were too big for my DDdy too.) It did give me this really funny photo though. so it probably really depends on the clothing item. I imagine a sweater might work…
A lot of stuff made for 75 is also available in popo68 size these days, and popo68 usually fits normal SD size save for the pants being longer. Popo68 is basically just an SD with longer legs after all ID75 is the base for most 75 scale clothes, who have shoulders of 19cm. A lot of SD shoulders are 14-15cm. Chests in 75 scale are also in the 30s range and can even be up to 38cm. A 60cm doll looks like a child next to 75s almost all the time, and as someone with both, an SD will be swimming in 75 clothes.
This is 65cm size Switch sweater on an SD13, if that's helpful, even though it's less of a gap than you're talking. It WAS designed to run oversized, to the point I think it might fit a 70cm doll. But not quite this oversized, since I can't keep it from falling over his hands. He likes it though, so what can you do. I also have a 75cm (I think) sheer dress/Kpop star shirt I got in a lot, which is hilariously large even on my SD17! I can take a photo for you on a 60cm doll if you'd like! But it's definitely silly. "Wearing" it would be an overstatement. Mostly it's way too wide in the shoulders, which is a big issue since it's a v-neck. So I think that particular type of shirt does not work. 75cm clothing that wasn't intended to be oversized item, and with a narrow-cut neck, you could probably get away with it. But while I regularly size dolls up in certain clothes by 5cm, sometimes 10; 15 feels like risky territory... at least based on that ridiculous shirt I haven't gotten rid of "just in case" I get a boy who can wear it.
Thank you all for the pics references! Those beefcake shirts will stay where they are in my case I guess I think it might be important for science to have this recorded, if you don't mind
I have a 58cm girl and plenty of 68-70cm uncle-sized clothing. No 75s here though. Some doll comparison photos. Oshidori (2DDoll 68cm girl body) and Zhara (Volks SD13 girl body - 58cm tall). Scale-wise, I think 2D68girl has the height and dimensions comparable to 75cm boys. Spoiler: pics with Soom ID75 Zhara and a Soom ID75 boy belonging to my friend. Oshidori and the grey girl next to her are both on 2D68girl bodies with high heeled feet. Soom ID75 in the middle, and Zhara on the right. Pics .. I've included reference pics on how the clothes look on properly sized dolls. (1) Clothing: Top is this one from LUTS (sized for SDF65). Pants are sized for 2D68girl. Oshidori was wearing these clothes in the very first photo. Zhara can wear the turtleneck top like an overfit top. (2) Outfit is sized for 68cm boy (Popo68). Spoiler: Worn on 68cm boy Hayk wearing the shirt. They're 3/4th sleeves on him but full sleeve length on Zhara, and the shoulders are too big for her. Hayk wearing the pants and jacket. The pants are 3/4ths on him and full length on Zhara. The jacket is way too big for Zhara in sleeve length and shoulders. (3) Clothes are from Dian Dolly, sized for 70cm boy (I believe to Switch HD70). Spoiler: Worn by 65cm boy Doll Family-H 65cm boy body in both pics. 65cm boy can often wear 70cm boy clothes because the horizontal dimensions - chest circumference, waist circumference, etc - are similar in the 65-70cm range, it's just the length that varies. Whereas this is not the case for a smaller doll, and even less likely for a girl doll in the 58-60cm range. (I have a Dollstown 15yr girl hybrid who is 61cm tall, and she can't wear these clothes either.) (wow, I have to continue this in another post)
(cont'd) (4) Top is from Dian Dolly for 70cm boy. Pants are from a QQTY/Recap outfit and sized for Popo68 boy. Note the size of the waist on the pants. Spoiler: Worn by 68cm boy Wearing the top Wearing the pants. They're high ankle length on Gael. My thoughts are - a SD girl could probably get away with wearing certain 68-70 uncle-sized tops like overfit, although you do have to mind the shoulder width and sleeve length. But I feel that this is a crapshoot, there's an equal chance that something will look good vs. look meh. You might have most success buying a top that is form-fitting for a 68-70cm boy or girl, that way it might look appropriately overfit for a 58-60cm girl. Pants are a no-go, both the length and the waist size are too big. I don't have uncle- or big-girl sized skirts at home to compare, but I think the waist will also be too big. I would not touch 75cm clothes at all, it'll be a waste of money. I can't imagine how you would take in or do alterations on all that volume of fabric to make it fit suitably on a SD doll. I already would not buy 75cm boy clothes for my 68cm boys. I hope this helps! And please give Zhara a round of applause for putting up with so many outfit changes
Wow @aihre this is so thorough and exactly what I wanted to see! Thank you and Zahra for trying all of those on *applauds*! Outfit nr 3 looks very adorable in its own way though Money saved yet again, I'm so glad I asked
For science!! (Apologies for the garbage lighting) My victi-- model is an SD13, and I was able to figure out that the shirt that's just barely hanging on is from Luts, sized for GSDF (75cm). Now I've confirmed the size is 10cm too large for any of my current dolls, I guess I'll have to decide if I like the shirt enough to buy a doll who can wear it...?
