Hey guys! Sort of new to the place I wanted to start my own company a long time ago (or atleast make my own BJD) then I got into cosplay and my interests shifted...now I've been looking into sculpting again... I started my first head earlier this week. The pictures look a little rough, but I really like his lips and nose. He's a bit big (about 24 cm around) so I plan to sand the heck out of him to try to make him a little smaller. If I do make a body for him, he'll be about 70 cm tall. I also started on a second head for a 60 cm boy (I'll put up some pictures of him when I have some) View attachment 195 View attachment 196 Thanks for looking!
Hello! I'm totally diggin' the shape of his nose. XD That's a weird thing to say, maybe... but you've developed it a lot more than the rest of his head, and I can see the potential there. I also really like nose shapes. ALL THE NOSES, GO! As a word of advice, I suggest possibly starting out by sculpting a smaller sized doll. I've heard that the best size is around 40-42 cm. In my personal experience this has held pretty true~ Because while a larger doll gives you more room to work in details, it also uses a LOT more clay. And when you're doing your first or second doll, there are going to be many many many mistakes and changes, which will use EVEN MORE clay. XD; But 40-42 cm is a lovely size for practice. You still get enough room to work details, and you use about half as much clay as you would with a larger doll. Anyway, that's just how it's been turning out for me, and I've gotten this same advice from a lot of different people. Just thought I'd pass it along. Please continue to post your progress!
update 3/6/12 Wyverngem- yeahhh. His head is huge. I actually don't own any BJDS at the moment to compare head sizes to, so I've just been going by measurements found online and such. XD Hyula- Well thanks! I probably did do a lot more work on the nose than anything else. Yes, I am actually thinking of just putting these two guys on hold to work on a smaller doll. I'm pretty new at this and have the tendency to try and go big or go home. Thank you for the advice! Update:I started sanding the big guy down, and his little friend as well. I'm having a hard time doing the eyelids, and nostrils still.. going to check out some tutorials on those. View attachment 197 View attachment 198 View attachment 199
