So, I was cleaning out my sculpting cabinet today and came across these old heads. I don't know about you, but I never really realize how much I've learned in all the time I've been sculpting. So, I thought it would be great to start a thread showing each other the progress we've made, to encourage each other - beginner or not - not to give up practicing. I'll start first (oldest --> newest): It's so weird to see my oldest head. At the time I was really proud of it (it was my first sculpting attempt ever), but I know how much trouble I had getting the mouth to look semi-decent. I just didn't know how the lips would 'flow' out of the rest of the face. The same problem I had with the cheek area; I never even heard of facial planes. It was really frustrating for me that I couldn't get my head to look the way I wanted. Finally, I decided to start with a new head. I gave myself a goal to practice mouths. I still do that: giving myself goals. Right now with Sasha, I've tought myself how to sculpt little teeth. I helps me from getting bored, I guess. So, what about yours? Haha, and somehow, the more I sculpt the smaller my heads get.
silk, your first head looks fantastic! If you posted it alone I would have thought it's one of the newest works, not the oldest. (but my favorite head is the last one ;P, especially the nose) If I manage to find photos of my oldest ones I'll post a comparison short as well. (Meanwhile following the thread to see more progresses.)
