I thought it would be fun to toss up the pictures of my sculpting process for Coepta. I had so much fun learning to sculpt using Polaris and Alt Polaris files from Thingiverse as a base, I thought "what if... I started from scratch......" and this project began, lol. It's been so fun! Humble beginnings: Then she started reminding me of someone I know, which was a little weird. I didn't mean to make them: After some more work she now looks completely different from my concept, but also I like her a lot so I'm gonna go with it, lol: Then the body next, I still can't decide if I should keep it a one piece or figure out how to separate it into 2: Tried following a tutorial for the hand and accidentally made this abomination: An entire day later and it miraculously looks like a hand! And that's all my progress so far Once I finish up the arms I'm moving on to the legs. Then I'll need to hollow her out and try a test print! The hollowing process is a bit intimidating though, lol. Better not get ahead of myself.
i finally made it to a stage where i could test printv at 24cm and ran into some troubles. still getting used to the 3D printer, but slowly she started coming together i had to make my own s-hooks because she's so tiny, i figured copper jewelry wire would be too soft, so I intended to use some stainless steel chainmail links. they were waaay too stiff though, so i compromised with bronze chainmail rings. Still hold up better than copper, and as a bonus I didn't need to buy anything new. and finally my first test print is complete. at this size her eyes are too tiny to make separate, but i plan to when i print her bigger. it's really exciting to see her come together. going forward i think I'm going to tweek her hands and feet a bit and try to figure out why her legs are bowing.
Great work! She's really cute! I like the smaller, more realistic size of her eyes. That hand abomination is pretty funny but you made some very pretty hands from the chaos in the end!
Thank you! Yes, the learning curve was high with the zspheres, but in the end it worked pretty good, lol.
It took a lot of tries but I'm finally happier with her limbs. The mobility joint on the thigh is too shallow, so I need to fix that up, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with how she's turning out. Might be time to bump her up to a bigger size soon!
Looking great! I imagine it will be very satisfying and fun to see her in a larger size. By the way, I took a look at your instagram page (I always enjoy seeing "doll in progress" photos) and your girl Versa is really cute, too! She has lovely cheekbones.
Thank you! Versa was made by altering files from Thingiverse as a base so I didn't feel right putting her up here. I do love her though, she started this whole adventure lol. Faces are definitely the most fun to sculpt.
Been working on Coepta again lately. Decided to print her big in filament to see how that goes. I'm loving the silver! Gunna have to reprint a few things both to test out new changes on the stls but also because I've learned so much printing her that her legs are a much higher print quality than her arms, lol.
Love the silver! XD Fun filament colours always look cool imo. And the world needs more robot-looking dolls
Ah, all my photos are broken Well let's see if this one works: I printed her at about 34cm, which is the biggest I could go on my little resin printer. The skin tone ended up way more grey than I wanted, but it's fun seeing her look a bit more human.
Probably just the old image bug acting up for your, I can see the images fine. You can maximize the chanses for your images showing by making sure they are in an appropriate size for a forum, it's not the only factor but it does seem to matter. Anthing taller than abrout 600 pixels and you will have to scroll to see the whole image anyway, so there is no point in posting huge pictures. She is very pretty!
All your images are visible for me now! also she’s so pretty!!! Something about her face makes me immediately go “friend shaped” whether she’s silver or human coloured
I can see the photo! She looks beautiful, and the skin color is pretty - I'm sure there are real people with olive-ash-tan skin like this. The wig suits her really well, too!
Thank you! I do keep forgetting the size thing, lol, I upload from my phone and it always defaults to humongous. Thank you! I really wanted her to have a soft pleasant look Thank you! That's true, it does photograph a lot nicer than in person I think, sometimes in person it skews a little purple lol. Ah well, it's all a learning process.
