Bardo Research Omi-Kopto, in Sunrise skintone. Ordered direct from Bardo Research. I spent 2023 being constantly tempted by pet dolls and <20cm tiny humanoids, but I resisted them all... until now. I was quite attracted to Omi-Kopto, decided to give in to my tiny tiny itch, and allowed myself to buy just this one (1) very small doll. Many, many thanks to @boxforox for giving me a chance to buy this lovely doll well after the preorder closed. I own mostly 1/3 dolls and have gotten used to huge shipping boxes coming home... so I was kind of blindsided by how small and light this mailing box was. And the doll box inside (snug in a nest of air cushions) was even smaller... The tiny girl is free from the bubble wrap! She was in such a sweet pose... First impression: Small, so very small. I'm so conditioned to the 1/3 scale; now holding a 1/8(? 1/9? I'm not sure)-scale resin BJD I could feel my brain threatening to short circuit. But I got over my initial shock quickly, and I think she's exquisite! Her face is very fascinating. I love all the jointing, she poses well and gracefully, and her resin feels beautiful - toothy, velvety, warm. She weighs almost nothing (44 grams/1.5oz on my kitchen scales) but also manages to feel substantial in my hand. I like holding her. She came with those 4mm eyes, and fully sueded with some kind of suede or pliver - neck, shoulders, underbust joint, hips and ankles. Bardo Research's body sculpting is incredible at such tiny scale. A couple examples... Omi-Kopto has sculpted nails, and upper arm muscle definition. Honestly, few 1/3 girl bodies I've seen can boast biceps and deltoids like this 18cm girl has. Thank goodness she has a faceplate system. Tiny S-hooks and elastic. My formerly smallest doll, the anpiel (DV Achelous - 1/4 tall mini at 51cm height), came to welcome the new doll home. . . . I plan to paint her faceup and sew at least a robe for her this week. The wig is the tricky one - I don't make any, so I'll either have to learn or commission someone who can create for such a tiny head (6.5cm/2.6inch). So pleased to have Omi-Kopto home! I feel fortunate to have a doll of such excellent craftsmanship. And I'm hopeful that my tiny tiny itch is now scratched and satisfied.
She is gorgeous! I've loved Bardo Research's work for a long time - their body sculpts have such a beautiful flow to them and those details you highlighted in her fingertips and arms are amazing! I love that resin color, too. As far as wigs go, making tiny ones isn't too intimidating, depending on the style you want! At least you don't need to spend much on supplies even if you want something in a natural fiber like mohair (which can get expensive if you need many ounces). I made yarn wigs for my Rosengarden Hana (my avatar) who is about the same size as this little lady. One thing I did to help control fit is to glue a very thin wire over the top of her head from ear to ear before attaching the hair. It helped keep the "sideburn" area in place when the wig was worn.
OMG how cute is that? I´ve never seen such a tiny cutie before. Her face is so unusual and cute at the same time.
@StellaMarigold I'm not one for the pear-shaped aesthetic, but somehow I don't mind it at all on Omi-Kopto. Her body lines are indeed so harmonious, I feel like I don't notice that she's got such a stylized shape. She's so pleasing to look at and hold! Thanks for the encouragement on wig-making. I kind of feel the tension - a small wig feels quicker to make and if I make mistakes I haven't used so much material... but tiny is also more tricky and has less room for mistakes? I will look into it! @Erasmia Yes, her face is unusual and fascinating both! I haven't seen any similar face elsewhere. I spent so much time looking at her promo pictures and being fascinated... big reason why I decided to bring her home.
She's so detailed for such a tiny thing! Congrats on getting her out of the Auspost chaos this time of year!
@castironteapot Thanks, she was shipped to me at the end of November... 2.5 weeks of no tracking updates since departing the UK ... and then Boom! next thing I know, she's on the way to my local postal exchange. I guess no tracking updates means she'll be right, mate...
Yeah, typical Auspost...got 3 parcels with no update since leaving Japan and one dented box, thankfully the doll was double-boxed and fine, phew!
