Scanning dolls?

Apr 12, 2008

    1. Yeah. So I took Hotaru to school the other day and my graphic arts teacher asked if I wanted to put her on the scanner and see how it would come out photographically.
"Erm... maybe another time :sweat " I said.

So, has anyone put their dolls on a scanner? o.O'' I'm not sure why I feel so iffy about it, but it just wasn't something I felt good about. :?

    2. Ah, I see. XD It's not bad for the resin, is it? -way overprotective of all my kids-

    3. Once I scanned the hand of a doll I was selling. She had a broken finger and I'd mended it. That was the only way I could think of to show the place where it broke because the break line was so faint I couldn't pick it up on my camera.

I don't know if it's good for dolls or not, though. :sweat At the time I didn't think any harm would come to the resin but you do make a good point since the scanner ligt could have weird rays that could change the resin.

    4. A scanner light is a florescent, isn't it? It shouldn't harm a doll anymore than the light in a grocery store would.

I stuck Shadow on the scanner and the brave soul didn't even blink. :)

Haha... it looks like he's dancing.

    5. I scanned my tiny once. I scanned her feet, front and back in order to send them to a friend who wanted to have exact measurements and a general idea of her body in order to make some clothes

I was a little reluctanct about doing it, but then nothing strange happened ^^

    6. Seeing as how you can scan parts of your own body without side effects, I doubt anything terrible would happen to a doll. ;)

    7. Reading this thread made me go "Hmmmm" and so I picked up Hawthorne (who had the bad luck of being the closest doll) and put her on the scanner. The light wasn't really bright, not like a photocopier at all so I don't think it would hurt your doll if you did feel comfortable scanning her. Still, if you are at all hesitant to do anything with your doll, then it's quite within your right to refuse.

Here's the scanned picture! It came out kind of strange and a little cool. She's an SD and my scanner's not all that big, so she couldn't fit on it.

    8. Scanning dolls, I never thought of that one before...

I tell ya, that would have made my life a lot easier when I first got my doll! But it really shouldn't do any damage, should it? It's true that it's just a light, right?

    9. Oh my god! :o
I didn't know you guys can do that!
      I meant, it's so cool~
I would like to see more :)

    10. lmao 8P Dance away, crazy cat boy xD

    11. Yes the light in a scanner is just a light. No weird rays other than what comes out of an ordinary lightbulb.

I've scanned my cats and guinea pig and other weird things through the years. No ill effects whatsoever.

    12. I'm surprised this thread hasn't come up yet: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79430 Scanning dolls can come out so beautifully :aheartbea I did it a few times, it's a lot of fun and the results are usually awesome! As far as I know it doesn't do anything bad to resin ^^

    13. hmm.. gonna so try that with my doll when i get him. Sounds fun.. He's an SD though.. it will be interesting~

    14. Hi,

I didn't know there was a thread regarding scanning dolls! :o
Thanks for posting this link! :aheartbea
      I would like to see more~ :)

    15. Intrigued by this, I decided to put a few of mine on the glass. It was really fun and a way to get my mind off other things when the weather doesn't permit doing outdoor photography.

    17. Oh, wow, they look like they're floating! I must do this with mine when they're all finished up.

    20. AHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! This is great!! Poor boy, but he looks great though XD

TrekkieGrrrl, your cats and guinea pigs?? really?? I just worry about the very bright light, once I forgot to put the lid down while scanning a picture and I got blinded for the rest of the day X_o

    21. oh wow, that is something that I've never thought of!
This is really interesting thread... maybe I might try it later.. +_+

    22. I am so going to try this with my kids. XD

    23. I'm gonna do this when I get my doll. I already put strange stuff in my scanner anyway. XD
Too bad my scanner is too small to fit a whole SD sized doll. >.<

    24. Karen sits on the scanner all the time, so I guess this was just the next step that I never thought of! I'd love to see some on regular copiers, is that light ok for dolls?

      She's shielding her eyes ^^

    25. Wow, that is an interesting idea. I will have to try it when my boy comes. :)

I did this a while ago. And personaly I really like how it came out.
I work in a computer lab and despite that I SUCK at photoshop:|, so I play with everything constantly when I bring my Sunako to work with me. Plus it is fun posing her in the inner window to have her stare out at the comp users.:kitty1

    27. Yes, please.

...expect a lot of me in here. This was far too much fun. xD

    28. I'm pretty sure as long as you don't close the scanner bed on them to the point their noses break, or what-have-you, it could turn out to be an interesting experiment.

    29. Scanning Harry... He looked like he was underwater so on the second pic I added a little postwork just to emphasize...

    30. Who would've though scanning a doll could produce such great images?

      Awesome scans of Harry, TrekkieGrrrl.

    31. I love these scans! Scanning dolls (*ahem* and people too sometimes...) always reminds me of people underwater. If I ever dig my scanner up from the basement I'm definitely going to be using it to get some pictures of some of my dolls!

    32. ihhh this is so funny! ^w^
