We have banned a user under the name Maryruth. This person has an Ebay account under the name bluebird1616, where she sold recast dolls and did not label them as recasts. For one in particular, she included a CoA with the doll, which was made for a different doll from the same company. Maryruth has used the Paypal email [email protected], and was using a shipping address in Waterville, Maine, USA. We don't normally post information related to Marketplace issues, nor off-site transaction issues, but we are concerned that this individual intends to systematically scam the BJD community. We have banned this account, but she may try to return via a new account, as this is a common occurrence with people who have been banned for scamming. We are therefore warning everyone to be careful in the Marketplace, and even more so when shopping on Ebay. Please report things you find questionable to us via Report Post or by making a thread in Ask the Moderators, and protect yourselves and your purchases. When shopping for BJDs on Ebay, please be particularly cautious. Do research to see if a price seems appropriate for the doll's company, edition, and availability. Make sure the color seems appropriate. Ask the seller for the doll's provenance (where it came from). Ask to see more photos of the doll, the CoA, and any box, shipping pillows/blankets/etc if necessary. Make sure that the CoA is actually supposed to be for the doll in question. Ask if they can show a proof of purchase or email receipt from when they got the doll. And you can always feel free to post a new thread in Ask the Moderators to link us to an Ebay listing you are interested in. You can ask any questions, or address any concerns you may have about it, and the mod team can point out any red flags that might indicate a recast, before you end up purchasing something. Thank you for reading!
Thanks for the heads up, guys! Just a note, too. This person is likely a staff or student at Colby College, which is located in Waterville, Maine, and uses the colby.edu address. There is a person by the name of M. L. Burns who works at the college, according to their website - I can't say if it is the same person, however. The email given for the employee is not the same as the scammers, but it is possible that they are using the same email under different names (my university email allows me to do so, at least.) I am not sure if this is the best place to point this out, but perhaps it might be useful to people looking to avoid this scammer in the future.
