Scammer alert! Have you seen her? Joyce AKA Joycie AKA LilyDryad AKA lystrade

Jan 10, 2009

    1. Wonderful news: LadyLenneth's doll has been returned! Legal action was able to be taken on her side of the battle and her baby came back home. She's dirty and cold and a bit on the battered side of things, but she's home with LadyLenneth. Some justice has come to this case. I have not heard from the other scammed person, but I was able to gain my money from the credit card company and LadyLenneth has her doll back in her arms.
But keep your eye out. This person is a repeat scammer so don't let your guard down on cosplay or BJD-buying websites

Mods, I do not know if this is in the right place and if you need to move it, please do, but I just need to know if anyone on Den of Angels was scammed by a user attempting to sell a Dream of Doll Tender Bee-A.

There have been a string of postings on the Cosplay.com Marketplace as well as BJDxChange for a Tender Bee-A in which the seller explains she needs money for bills and is selling her doll at a cheap price so she can pay quickly. She offers a Tender Bee-A with the wig she is pictured in for X amount of money so she can make rent or someting of the sort. When the money is sent to her via paypal, she promises to message the next day when she sends the doll out and then fails to respond any further contact.

Now it is coming to light that this doll originally belonged to a member on this website, was borrowed on commission, and never returned.

Here are pictures of the doll that were sent to myself and the person scammed on BJDxChange:

      http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k245/lystrade4/dfsdfsdfsdf.jpg

She goes by the name Joyce or Joycie.
On Cosplay.com and BJDxChange she is LilyDryad--She has now been banned from Cosplay.com. She also uses the username lystrade.
She messages from emails [email protected] and [email protected].
She lives in Daytona, Florida. Supposedly, her real name is Jennifer, though it could just be another alias.

I have heard from other cosplayers from the Cosplay.com Marketplace and they, too, have been "sold" costumes by this person under the username lystrade.

Myself and another woman have been scammed, both on the same day. We are almost certain there is someone else out there. This person is scamming everyone possible and we are working together to find anyone else who can further build our Paypal cases and bring this girl to justice.

If you have any information, any at all, please PM or email me directly at XXXX. Again, mods, I am sorry if this is in the wrong place but I cannot take this sitting down. She may try and come here or she may have already been by.

      Thank you.

    2. Oh My God That's My Missing Doll!!!!!!

EDIT: Sorry for the all caps, but yes. That is my doll!!! I have photos of her if needed!!

EDIT#2: So it's never actually been sent to anyone? I'm sorry if people have been buying her, but she belongs to me. I'm not sure what to do to go about fixing this.

    3. Sorry if it's not alright for me to post, as I'm not directly involved,
But could you post links or pictures or something so that we can keep a look out on this marketplace too?

      Thanks,
      ~Yako

And OMFG, Lenneth, that hardcore sucks! D=< When did she go missing, and do you know the area? Like, a convention or what not?

    4. I loaned her the doll to make clothing over a year ago - she decided she didn't like it, didn't want to do it, and I made many trips to her home to pick it up. Every single time, she'd "forget" I was coming, and go off partying with her friends. Her father would answer the door, and refuse to go into her room and get it for me.

So, I decided to have her ship it to me. I sent her multiple payments for shipping and she never mailed it out.

This is the Tender Bee-A in question. When I lent it to Joyce, it had on a red, curly wig, and a solid, light yellow dress.

You can't see it in this picture, but her entire forehead is yellowed.

Seconding the request for links to these "sales".

    5. wait she stole your doll??? but you know where she lives??

    6. Did you try going to the police about this? I would've had them get it back for me. Somehow I doubt she'd be able to produce any type of proof of ownership. Even without paperwork, you would have pictures taken over time as well as witnesses (family/friends) to give statements regarding you owning the doll. (and if you have paperwork or a sale invoice it'd be even easier to prove)

I also think a link to the auction(s) and pictures she's using would be good to have here. Otherwise people will start suspecting anyone selling a doll that is remotely similar (particularly if they are selling the same mold)

    7. PLEASE read everything before you post.

      AGAIN:

"I loaned her the doll to make clothing over a year ago - she decided she didn't like it, didn't want to do it, and I made many trips to her home to pick it up. Every single time, she'd "forget" I was coming, and go off partying with her friends. Her father would answer the door, and refuse to go into her room and get it for me.

    8. After reading many horror stories about the police not giving a darn about a missing dollie, and also the fact that a Tender Bee-A isn't worth enough to warrant police involvement(doesn't it have to be over 500$?), I never did. Plus, since it had been over a year I assume I'd be taken as a joke.

      :/

I do feel terrible that others are being frauded now, so I will give whatever information I have. :/

    9. I would've tried anyways *shrug* also I've never heard the item had to be worth over $500. I've had them retrieve missing bicycles before that were valued around $100.
Theft is theft technically speaking. Not returning something that isn't yours does count as theft. And you don't have to say "dollie", you could say "handcrafted collectable" since thats technically what she is. If you spoke to the police and they laughed at you, I'd recommend going over the head of the person you talked with.

edit: You shouldn't feel responsible for what this person is doing. Its not your fault she technically stole your doll and is using it to steal from others. If she didn't have your doll, she might've just stolen someone's gallery/lj pictures and used them instead. Or used one of her own legit dolls and pulled the same scam.

    10. Does this have anything to do with Den of Angels? Is the person being discussed a member here?

    11. I have no idea, that's why we're all hoping the original poster of this thread could be a little more detailed.

I guess lock it temporarily until they can give us more information?

    12. Hmmmm....well, certainly, YOU must know her name? How did you originally contact her?

Until further clarification is given, chat will be deleted. Warning folks off a potential scammer is good - but there's just not enough information here.

    13. You should also be aware that in most cases when somebody has a piece of property of yours, you can usually get a police officer to escort you to their home to get it returned to you if you have some sort of proof. I would recommend doing so in this matter.

      • x 1
    14. She was never a DoA member that I knew of - she knows nothing about BJD's at all.

This is all new to me - and I'm just as much in the dark as you. I only know the scammer's real name, phone numbers, and addresses, and now I know she's using my property to scam people.

I'm sorry I'm not of much use here.

    15. Whoa! I didn't realize this thread had become so active today--I'm a full-time college student so I don't have the most time in the world. DX

Let me get the pictures up of the doll that was sent to Gayle and myself. Tell me what I need to ad, mods, and I'll do it. This scammer needs to be put to justice.

    16. I'm thinking that exposing someone who has tried to fraudulently sell what is very much stolen property (LadyLenneth has been trying to recover her doll for at least one year, as it was loaned in August 2007) that is an ABJD and may attempt to defraud DOA folks in the future, it counts. If the board knows, then any attempts she may make to sell the doll here will be futile.

The community overall, regardless of membership numbers here, is small enough that we can and must put thieves in their place. Having had a doll head stolen, I know how it feels, which is hopefully a feeling that stays rare in the community overall. I also know that the actions of DOA members combined with notifying the board were instrumental in helping to recover my head, as it was sold outside the DOA Marketplace, but yet to a DOA member.

    17. I didn't say it didn't "count." I'm asking for less hysterical chat and more concrete warning - names, aliases, last known contact and what exactly we're supposed to be cautioning ourselves about. Thank you.

    18. That information is, actually, very useful - thank you! Please keep us updated as to any follow-through you attempt with the information you have as far as contact or pursuing your doll.

    19. I know her, and her real name is Joyce. She's also "Lystrade" on Cosplay.Com.

I've looked everywhere on C-Com... I can't find it anywhere. I remember talking to you about this doll like, every time I've seen you since you lent it to her. I hope you get her back!

    20. She apparently posted it for sale under the name "LilyDryad", which has since been banned and all ads taken down, including the one for my doll.

Unfortunately, by doing so they have eliminated the proof..which helps us none. :|

    21. BiZria: What was the title of the sales thread/ auction? what was she calling it. ABJD? Tender Bee-?. LadyLenneth says this person doesn't know much about Bjds so i am curious as to what kind of info she has been putting up. (it could be useful info for people who cant load the pix on their computer...like myself :sweat )

    22. She called it a Tender Bee-A and named the company, Dream of Doll. She had official photographs as well as those she had taken herself. I do believe she called it a BJD. She seemed to have a general idea of what was going on--she looked for chips and cracks and answered my generalized BJD questions--but we did not talk long enough for her to give a lot of details. She claimed to have more dolls.

    23. If you had asked about yellowing, I'm sure she wouldn't have understood, along with "Is it sueded?" or "What type body is it?".

I told her what type of doll and brand it was. That's all she really knows.

That's why this is new and somewhat alarming - she only scammed people on cosplay.com before.

    24. Hi, so sorry to hear your doll is being used this way and that you felt you couldnt go to the police to get her back :( BUT I was thinking that now the doll is being used to scam/defraud people out of money then maybe they would be interested now. Afterall there will be an electronic trail of the money going to her and no matter how many aliases she uses it will be able to be traced to her. Might be worth gathering all the information you and the others who have been involved in this to give to the police and see what they can do - IF anything they may be able to advise what you can and cant do legally to gain your property and monies back and bring this scammer to justice.

    25. Okay, I would like everyone to PLEASE stop replying to this thread and sending me PM's telling me to get off my butt and do something. I was a spineless wimp in regards to letting my "friend" get away with screwing me over for so long, but that does not mean I have been sitting here doing nothing about these other people's problems.

I am talking to a lawyer, I am talking to all of those involved, I am going to the police, I am filing a class action lawsuit. I have been doing this since the moment I saw this thread. Just because I didn't feel it necessary to openly advertise what I was doing about it yet does not mean I deserve a inbox full of bossy, hateful pms lecturing me.

      PLEASE. Enough.

    26. @LadyLenneth: I guess I should have asked those things. Sueding doesn't matter too much to me, neither does yellowing. I had a really terrible Christmas, then I saw the doll and thought, "Here's a way to make the season so much better!" I asked my own set of questions and was dazzled by the prospect of finally having a good holiday. So much for that..

Yes, please do not patronize LadyLenneth in my thread. Try and put yourself in her shoes: a friend stole $350+ worth of merchandise from her and simply disappeared for over half a year. Think of your nice Singer being stolen or your husband's new TV or your laptop with all your pictures from that surprise part you were thrown. On top of that, it is an uncommon item and people are cruel--the police could have easily laughed at her and said, "A doll? A doll could never be worth that much!" And she was probably young--if I told my parents I lost a doll, they would murder me simply for spending so much. So many circumstances play into this, so don't start throwing opinions unless you have personally experienced this.

This isn't a thread for opinions. This thread is only to gather those who have been scammed, bring information to the BJD community, and help build the case against the scammer. This thread was able to find the doll's original owner and that will only make the case more powerful. If you do not have information, please refrain from emailing either LadyLenneth or myself.

    27. If you are receiving hateful PMs you really need to forward them to a mod. That kind of behavior is completely inappropriate. I'm sure the mods will deal with them appropriately.

    28. Okay, WE HAVE AN ATTORNEY!

If you have been scammed by Lystrade/Joyce Roberson please PM me - I will need statements, emails, your REAL LIFE contact information, etc.

He says we have a case, we are going to court! I will keep this thread updated.

    32. This is the doll...

    33. Okay, the attorney needs everyone to send me a written statement describing how it took place. This statement needs to be signed by you and notarized.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! WE CANNOT CONTINUE WITHOUT THESE!!!

Once you have that, please mail it to me - you can get my address by pming me.

    34. Just to update, since I'm still getting PMs about why I didn't go to the police:

I did not immediately go to the police because at the time she was my friend and I continued to think that she just hadn't had the time to mail it yet. I was holding out in hopes that it'd show up eventually.

I did call the police and offered to bring the evidence down to her local police station.
They ridiculed me, refused to believe the doll was worth that much, had me running in circles on the phone with them and finally told me that a paypal receipt is not a REAL receipt and can't be accepted as proof that I purchased the doll and it belonged to me.

      :/

    35. If people are still sending you PMs you need to report them to the mods! You may not mind but if you don't report them they'll probably do the same thing to other people later on.

If the police aren't taking you serious then you need to let the lawyer handle it with them. They'll be more likely to listen to a lawyer.

    36. I had an FBI agent come to our work place once about two years ago. He spoke about something else as a main topic, but touched on internet scams and fraud.

You can also try to report her doings to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint center. I've never had to use it (thank God) so I'm not sure how it works, but if all of you who were hurt by this Joyce report her, they might look into it:

      http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

[ETA] I meant that if they look into it, there'll have to be a case number and that might help when you do file the class action suit against her, or maybe even get a cop to take this more seriously and come out to her place and get your stuff back.

    37. I have an attorney who's taking care of it - I just wanted to update those who keep repeatedly demanding that I go to the police.

    38. FYI to any Ebay users: This person is also an Ebay member under the email [email protected] but Ebay will not give me any other info because I have not recently done business with her. Just be alert that she is there as well and the doll in question could pop up.

    39. I think this is her eBay profile:

      http://myworld.ebay.com/lystrade

It doesn't look like she's had any eBay transactions since June of 2008.

    40. Thank you, wickedstitchery. There is a user named lystrade with 100% feedback--she stopped doing transactions back in June, the same time lystrade on Cosplay.com stopped posting on the forums. Lilydrad is not yet a user on eBay.

It is all speculation, but worth mentioning. Thank you again, wickedstitchery~You rock. :]

    41. I was just posting that. I think we share the same brain. x)

Either way, thank you for posting this. In looking more closely at her feedback, those are all cosplay and wig retailers. It looks as though she mostly buys--probably with the money she steals. D:<

    42. lystrade has received negative feedback on eBay before, but because it's so old, it wasn't taken into calculating the feedback ratios anymore.

I'd encourage those who are in the process of buying dolls on eBay to keep an eye out for the Bee-A and report it to eBay if she pops up, especially under the user lystrade.

      [ETA]. And btw
      *LOL* XP

    43. Oh~I completely forgot about that eBay turn-over a few months back. Man, that was just a really bad idea on the website's part. D:

I check eBay for dolls and used cosplay on a frequent basis, so I will keep my eyes open for lystrade and LilyDryad. She has very distinct pictures, taken in the dark of a naked doll, so she will be easy to spot. Her cosplay pictures are not professional and usually fall into the characters of Street Fighter, Princess Tutu, or Gundam Wing.

It seems as though LilyDryad is her current username when scamming as the name lystrade has become synonymous with "cheater."

    44. Updating with some bad news -

Apparently I can get MY doll back - but I cannot make any decisions or take her to court on the behalf of someone else.

What I can do is take all the documentation and evidence I am currently gathering to the police station and they will take it from there - but I cannot file a lawsuit unless all of you are with me in person, which is impossible. I cannot represent you in court in an attempt to get your money back. You can call the attorney yourself and make arrangements for a class action lawsuit - but that costs alot of money that I know noone has. In a nutshell, unless we spend hundreds on an attorney, noone will get any money back or their items.

So for now, send me everything you've got - and the police will handle it from here.

      Apologies.

    45. Has this been forwarded to Bad_Dolly_Deals? More people with information might come out of the woodwork that way?

    46. UPDATE!!!

The lawyer sent a letter out giving her 7 days to return the doll to his office.

7 days came and went, no sign of contact despite several calls.

And then a package showed up.

I do not have photos, but she is in one piece. Her sueding was removed, she is definitely more yellowed, very dirty, eyelashes are crushed/hanging out and the wig is destroyed.

I have no MSD items right now, so I will be browsing the marketplace to find her a new look.

If you have had problems with this seller, please don't hesitate to PM me. Leaving messages on her cell phone seems to work - the attorney did so and it got results.

I apologize to those of you who wanted to bring my girl home. I was planning on giving her outright to whoever had purchased her, but with more than one person going empty handed, I'm not sure what to do about this - so if I could please have the two of you pm me your mailing addresses and perhaps an idea of what size dolls you do have and what kind of clothing they wear and I will try my best to make sure you don't go uncompensated.

    47. I am very glad to hear that you got your girl back.

I've been following this and I am glad to see that you got what was yours. :)

    48. Congrats, LadyLenneth! That is good news indeed. I hope the others you have been in contact with receive similar results in their own "quests."

    49. Glad you got the doll back!

    50. Oh my gosh, you got her back! I-I'm speechless. I'm glad. So glad. There is such relief flooding over me. I'm so happy! I can't express it. When your girl is cleaned up, will you take pictures of her? It strange, but I feel so connected to her after fighting for so long. I want to see her with her mommy, see her finally safe and back in your care.

LadyLenneth, allow me to make her a nice kimono as a homecoming gift. What colors does she like? :]

    51. As requested - here are photos.

Her face up had to be removed and she had to be taken apart, cleaned and reassembled. She is currently wearing an SD wig and jacket.

As for the rest of the people she scammed, I am still involved with the police on the matter, although now it is off topic(as that is cosplay.com, not Den of Angels or doll-related in any way.)

    52. It appears that she cleaned up pretty well. ^^ So glad to see that you got her back!
