Saran Hair.... is good to BJD?

Jul 16, 2005

    1. http://dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=356 - I'm kinda thinking about buying this and trying to make my own wig for Chocolate as a b-day present... so... does anyone knows if it is good? fits bjd? o.o how long it is?

And look: http://dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=354 - glow in the dark XD

I want a few of it... I might ask to my mom if I can buy, what she thinks of the idea, etc... I hope she'll agree.. so my lil baby will have her own custom wig ^^' (if my hands stop being unusefull and start doing something! my mommy could help too since she is better at those things than I am ^^')

    2. i wish i could answer your question but I dont' know the answer^^;;;
Although, good luck if you do decided to make a wig!

    3. Thanks! I bet I'll really need it XD

    4. That's rooting hair for dolls like 1/6 or larger ones like Gene dolls. You'd have to buy A LOT to do a wig if you bought it in hanks like that. You're better off buying from shops that sell hair specifically to make wigs.

    5. You're going to need a TON of pacekts of hair for a doll wig, then weft it yourself.

Its not too likely to hurt your doll, though.

If you take a loop of rooting hair from www.restoredoll.com and cut it in ONE place, its about 22 inches long. On a rooted head it'll be halved (because the hair is folded over) and on a weft, it'll be shortened depending on how much hair you fold over for the weft.

If you make the wig using this method:

      http://www.makeup-fx.com/Perukeng.html

      the length would be halved.

But one LARGE skein package won't even be enough. You'll probably need at the very least 4, costing you about $45.00 (restoredoll prices)

    6. If I'd need much of it I preffer not doing it myself ^^'
Hm... I'd better try to find something for her.. hm..

    7. I've tried rerooting a doll of a slightly larger head size than SD with one large skein order of hair from restore doll and its not even enough for pigtails  so, yeah, you'd need a lot of hair.

If you can find prewefted hair, that's a lot easier to use.

    8. I've always bought my hair for rerooting barbies from here http://www.dollyhair.com/ I found them a bit cheaper than restoredoll and a better deal on the international postage too. Though she doesn't carry quite as large a range in colours. Saran hair is GORGEOUS it really is so much softer, it is the hair that barbies come with when you buy them. I find the skeins for doing a barbie quite generous and more than I actually need but still i'd think you might need 3 for a dollfie wig which gets fairly expensive in comparrison to just buying a wig.

    9. ahhh just found this on the website there, should help some.

"One Barbie hank is enough to root a doll with a 4 inch circumference head, which is what Barbie has, so if your doll had a head that's 12 inches in circumference, for instance, then you would need 3 Barbie hanks. (3 hanks x 4 inches per hank = 12 inches of doll head).

Similarly, Gene has a head that's 5 inches in circumference, so if you had a doll whose head was 10 inches in circumference, you would need two Gene hanks to root your doll. (2 hanks x 5 inches per hank = 10 inches of doll head)."

    10. When you order "one order" of hair from restore doll, you get two bags of hair. You can root one Barbie sized head with ONE bag of hair, at ankle length to the doll. Of course, you can do two if you cut the hair even shorter. It all depends on how long you want it to be in the end.

    11. I've ordered hair from both, I found dollyhair.com to be a better deal, counting in postage. It all depends how thickly you root the hair too, some people prefer to root it quite thin so wouldn't use as much (I like going on the thin side myself) I'm wondering about the more traditional methods of making a high quality human size wig where you actually knot in each small bunch of strands with a crochet hook rather than strips of premade weft, anyone ever done this?

    12. That's similar to the tutorial I posted above, but I've not tried it.
