santa hat pattern/tutorial?

Nov 22, 2019

    1. Anyone have a good santa hat hat tutorial or pattern? I want to make some for my dolls, but am not sure how to go about it. There is a tutorial when I searched it, but it just cuts off the corner of a bag. Id rather actually sew them.

    2. There use to be a how to make a human Santa hat into both a doll hat and matching dress tutorial out there, but I found that when I fist joined the hobby forever ago. Good luck.

    3. Dollheimr on Etsy has a santa hat pattern for 1/6 dolls. You could enlarge it for bigger dolls, too.

    4. Thank you for the help everyone! I actually found a tutorial by Dollightfull that I really like and I think is simple enough even for me.

Here it is in case anyone else wants it:

EDIT: I just realized Dollightfull doesn't do on topic dolls, so if I need to take down the link just let me know.

    5. Welcome! I haven't tried it yet, but hopefully will get to it in the next few weeks. I know I have a good fabric for the red part, not sure about the white trim.

    6. I found a tutorial and pattern meant for Blythe, but the instructions seem very easy to modify for any doll of any size. The person has a Smart Doll Mirai, so the same pattern might work for Volks Dollfie Dream with a few alterations. I've seen some stores carrying tree ornaments that are actual hats, but I've never purchased any myself (we don't put a tree in our house, for many reasons despite being Catholic).

I love putting my OT figures and dolls in ugly X-mas sweaters which are actually tree ornaments, but I never thought about torturing them in Santa hats too... I might try that this year! (:

    7. That's an interesting tutorial, but I am still a newbie when it comes to sewing and Dollightful's makes more sense to me...Thank you though! Hopefully once I get better I can try it out.

I just saw a few of those ornaments actually. I almost bought them, but realized the wouldn't fit my dolls. I hope you can find some good hats to torture them in!

    8. Despite having experience in sewing for quite a few years now, I still suck at sewing myself, so I understand! n__n

Most of the "ugly" Christmas sweater ornaments I've found are a good size for 1:6 figures or other 12" fashion dolls. I am not sure that they would work for larger sized BJD than slim mini. The hats I've seen are all very large however, probably better suited for mini-sized BJD with smaller heads, and definitely too large for 1:6. I think I'll try the hat tutorial for Blythe, and the one you posted, to attempt making some for those figures. Otherwise, I'll just go with the sweaters alone this year as well -- I completely forgot about it last year, so I'm looking forward to forcing some figures into new ugly sweaters this year. (:

    9. Ive only been doing it for a few years, on and off. I still cant make a simple t shirt...Which sucks because I have this gorgeous fabric I would love to make sweaters out of for my dolls, but I'm not going to use it till I know I wont screw it up.

Oh wow those are super tiny. I found one hat and scarf combo that was to small for my girl, and one hat that actually probably would have been the right size. Dont know why I didn't buy that one. I also saw a few sled ornaments that would have been perfect size for tinies. Its really to bad I'm not into tinies, cuz there are so many ornaments that are perfect for them.

    10. I've done a few t-shirts for some of my own dolls; I don't find those too hard. I don't usually dress my dolls in casual wear however, I am a bit more into weird clothes. I find coats and dress-shirts a bit more of a pain in the gut, more so the fitted/tailored kind.

1:6 scale is a very popular size to collect, so there are a lot of awesome miniatures that work well for a broad range of BJDs that are tiny. I am a fan of the 1:6 action figures, so I do collect a lot of those, and I'm lucky that I'm able to find ornaments that work well for them anywhere near me. Sadly, most of my resin dolls are on the larger sizes, so nothing1:6 works for them, as larger scale miniatures tend to be not as popular and a lot more expensive. I have found a few hat ornaments, and a few pet hats that could probably work for 60cm-plus-sized dolls, but those smaller pet hats are super expensive (for what they are)! I have a few of the ones that are meant for (my) cats, but those are way too large, even for my larger BJD (they work for Pullip and friends though!) Good luck sewing Santa hats for your own crew. I think I better get started on mine, before time runs out -- which is always the case for me (I procrastinate). (:

    11. Ive made a cute bag, and a few string bikinis and a few dresses, but...man something about just regular shirts...I want to start taking some classes so I can learn to sew better.

Oh it is? I thought 1/12 was the super popular one. 1/6 makes more sense I guess. Ive seen a few of those pet hats, and yeah they are expensive. And they look just a bit to big for my dolls. What I have been looking for are the little hats they put on headbands for people like for St. Patricks day. I think if you get them on clearance after the holiday you might get some good deals. I think I might work on them this weekend. I can get some fabric for the white trim tomorrow at black Friday prices. then Saturday I can make them. I only have three tops to make, probably only two since I don't want to deal with the elf ears on my one girl.

    12. I think most miniatures that are under 1:4 are popular scales to collect. Most anything larger than that tends to be a lot more expensive, and rare. I have seen a few headbands meant for humans at the Dollar Tree, that have tiny hats (or reindeer antlers), but I haven't seen any with Santa hats so far. They sell small squares of craft felt at Walmart for a dollar or less, so I'll probably pick up a few pieces when I'm out shopping for other stuff. I'm not a fan of crowds, so I rather not go out during sale events (I'm a bit of a germaphobe). DX
