Right, I'm casting my Violet at the moment, and it struck me that this is the first time I'm really sanding resin. Besides the obvious avoidance of breathing in the resin dust - how do you sand the seams without damaging the resin around it? I want the seams to be invisible, but I'm not sure exactly how I'm supposed to do that. Is there a trick to it? Oh, and I have a dremel, if that's useful for this?
I think most people use sandpaper from the lowest grid to more higher grid. But not too high or resin will end up too shiny. If you just want to remove seams, here is a tutorial: http://fashiondollreview.blogspot.com/2011/02/bjd-techniques-made-easy-sanding-seam.html
I always wet sand when I sand resin. I don't want any resin dust floating in the air, or settling on surfaces when I'm done wearing a mask. I wouldn't recommend starting with too coarse sandpaper, it could leave scratches much deeper than you want.
Yukamina: That's useful tips, thank you so much! It's the scratches I'm most worried about. But you're right in that the dust can settle around...I didn't think about that.
