Aesthetics Ringdoll Sol faceup - please give some critique

Feb 25, 2014

    1. Hello everyone! :)It is my second attempt on faceup, the previous one had a bit strange eyebrows, though it took me some months before I changed it. Still, hope I can get some of your thoughts about this work. I am still very bad at making scars.

    2. I don't know anything about painting scars myself, so I hope someone else can offer advice! I think they look a bit too bright pink, but from what I can see the shading on the cheek scar looks like it has good dimension.
I think his eyes look very good. I have one suggestion about the eyebrows: the grey colour is quite uniform and might look more realistic if they were a bit more "salt and pepper", with some darker strokes and some lighter strokes - kind of like the wig. Here are a couple of pictures of what I mean:

or look up ex. George Clooney, Ben Stiller etc. Hope this is helpful :)

    3. A very good face-up so far! I especially like the eye blushing and eyelashes, they are so neat and tiny <3 I just have two comments to make:

      - The scars look really good, nice and fresh! To make older scars you can use acrylic thickener or acryl paint, you can make a raised scar with it.
      - The eyebrows are a little too high and a little too light compared to the hair. Some blushing would help, you can add them to this layer and spray it again.

Overall a very good face-up, are you sure it's only your seccond attempt? ;)

    4. Thank you very much for the pictures! I keep working on the eyebrows because I am not good at them, but they are better now and really look more hairy than they did before) I actually changed the wig some days ago, now it is very light silver, so it matches. But still, thank you, I will take those pictures and keep that in in mind :)

    5. Thank you for your comment! what exactly is acrylic thickener though? I tried to look at the scar I had when I made his, mine is really white now, but I thought of making a fresh scar.
I will try to change his eybrows later, thank you for advice))

    6. That's a meticulous face up, Etheldreda offers great suggestions...out of curiosity are you looking to make his scars permanen, is this his character? Some scars also have needle point marks in the flesh from when they were stitched..I'm not sure how to copy links here, or if permissible, I saw great tutorials on you tube, very inspiring..they used liquid latex, and eyeshadows..
Are you going to scar his chest and back up too?

    7. Thank you! He is not much of a guy that has scars, I just wanted those two cars to be noticable, the rest of his body is covered in tatoos, so There is not much space for scars) But I will try to look for some tutorials on how to make scars. Thank you)

    8. Hi, I like the scars they look fresh or just healed. I agree that his eyebrows are too high and need more than one color so it will blend with different colored wigs. All that said I think you did a wonderful job.

    9. As the eyebrows have been addressed already, I'm not saying anything about them (exept that tips you got for them are good). So, eyelashes is what I'd like to point out: you could think if you'd like to make them sparcer/darker next time, as now they kind of blend in the blush below the eye. Not a bad look, per se, but as you look at photos of real people, you can see, that lower eyelashes are often much sparcer than upper.

But yeah. Good work on whole, and you really seem to have good skills to handle your pencils and brushes - lines are even and controlled.

    10. I actually have a facial scar (I had shingles a couple years back) and I know a good bit about scars in general. Scars that are newly forming ten to be reddish. On lighter skinned people (like me) older scars tend to be the same color as the surrounding skin, or very close to it. On darker skinned folks (like your doll) they tend to be a little bit darker than the surrounding skin. So the scars on your doll looks like he got them within the past couple months.

    11. Thank you for your opinion, I will be redoing him, I wil try to add some older scars)) I hope I will be able to do this right)

    12. I think the eyes look great, particularly the lower lashes. As suggested before me the eyebrows look a bit too grey, but nothing too dramatic.
I would maybe change the angle a tiny bit to make them more realistic, but that's just me.
I think for a second face up it's amazing!
