Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #10

Mar 12, 2025

    1. Has anyone else seen the teaser RingDoll posted of Frankenstein v3? :D

    2. They're really bringing their A game to the newest releases.

    3. Augh I’m pretending I haven’t seen it because it’s so tempting. I swear I don’t have a character for him this go-around—I used to have v2 and Eva, and I sold both of them in like 2020, and now I’m going “but what if this time-”

I might be in a big pile of Frankenstein doom, especially if they let me get him in WS so I can do him as a kind of homage to Mary Shelley’s original Creature, and less of the classic monster movie gray/green vibes. They didn’t allow colour choice on v1/v2 but maybe for v3 they will?

for those who want to see the reveal for themselves: Ring Doll on Instagram: "It feels like 12 years have passed️ Guess who he is? #ringdoll #ドール #球体関節人形 #bjd #doll #resindoll #balljointeddoll #bjdmakeup #dolls #bjdphotography"

    4. I love how they've done the exposed body parts. I can be marked safe from this purchase (my wallet is dancing with joy) as I've nobody for this doll to be. But I'll def admire him in other's collections.

      • x 1
    5. They really have been bringing their A-game. The level of intricate detail on him is amazing. Sadly, I can only get one doll this year, and it won't be this one. I have to save for some Big Life Stuff, so once again the dolls end up on the backburner. Hopefully he's not too limited. :sweat

    6. I feel you @Quiet and Insane I love the look of the Alpha but aside from not having a character for him, I just can't do a large dolly purchase at this time in good financial conscience. And the Canadian dollar continues to suck so there's that, too.

    7. I have been pleased with all four of my Ringdoll faceups.

    8. That's good to hear! You've found they've matched the promo pics?

    9. Yes. I have two largev and two MSD boys.

    10. I bought Shaytien (Ksitigarbara-The Virgo) during their Black Friday sale in 2024 and he came with the default/limited face-up, which I really wanted. I'm very pleased with how his face-up is done and I feel it's very close to the promo photos. But... I'm also face-blind so take my opinion with a bucket of salt on whether the face-up is reasonably the same (it looks the same to me but see previous face-blind qualifier).

[IMG]Sheer pastel rainbow outfit by ID Locke, on Flickr

And just to toot my own horn a little, I made the outfit he's wearing and think it turned out beautifully. Naturally, he's not a fan *sigh. Others in my crew will battle to the death for it so that's fine, but I'd specifically made it for him so I'm ever so slightly annoyed. Apparently he doesn't do pastels and prefers rich jewel tones and plush/silky fabrics.

    11. Oh my gosh how stunning! You did a great job!! Where did you get the pattern?

Also, do you recommend waiting for the black friday sale? how good was that sale :aeyepop:

    12. @Iron_Dog I think the outfit is stunning! Maybe he will get used to it!

    13. @joanmccarthy10 I came up with the pattern by cobbling together several different patterns I have (some of which I drafted) to create a new pattern. It's a very OOAK thing as the white sheer fabric with the beading was a bridal shawl I bought at least a decade ago on clearance. The rainbow sheer fabric was from a remanent bin and is at least 10 years old. The fabric of the under robe is another remanent piece close to 10 years old and fabric from a friend's mom's stash dated 1990. The lace trim was crocheted by hand by the same friend's grandmother-in-law (who has long since passed away) and is likely from the mid 1980's.

The Black Friday sales are going to be whatever they have in stock so it's kind of see what's there and if any tickles your fancy. I got him for 40% off so it was a great deal to me since I'd love his sculpt from when he was originally released. To the best of my knowledge his sculpt has also never been re-released so I was pretty happy to be able to snap him up direct from RD even if my wallet hated it (because the Canadian dollar sucks).

They were really good about shipping, too, since at the time, Canada Post was in the midst of a strike and literally NOTHING was entering/leaving the country via our national postal service. Because CANPost has contracts with both EMS and DHL, neither of those services were able to deliver packages either (they were held at a secure facility at the border until the strike was over but not sent through/started the process of actually entering Canada). A little back and forth between me and RD had them find another service which would deliver to my house and as per my request, they even put a large note on the box that it was to be delivered directly to my apartment and NOT handed off to Canada Post, which it was.

    14. @nancy_schroeder_ca Thank you. I made him a different outfit, which he approved of. It's very dark blue and black flames with dark sapphire blue velvet sleeves and dark blue-purple pants. He's currently wearing a black and white outfit I made (although not specifically for him, just for dolls his size). I've been on a sewing binge lately. I'm now working on an outfit in shades of green with gold accents and lace that's probably about 4" wide. If you're curious of some of the outfits I've done, I post them to my Insta: https://www.instagram.com/id_locke/

    15. @Iron_Dog oh wow! what a story. I just followed you (I'm @joanierosesewing).
ooo 40% off? Man that's tempting to wait and see... haha. Sounds like ringdoll has good service too!

    16. @joanmccarthy10 RD does some sales at times where you can get a really good deal. I have seen a doll listed there for 50% off and it's pretty common for them to be 30% when they're doing an in-stock sale. Just keep in mind that because they are in-stock, quantities of individual dolls are limited as well. I think there were only 2 Virgos available during the 2024 Black Friday sale.

I was quite pleased that RD worked with me on the shipping. I explained to them about the strike and the contracts with the other services that would see my doll stuck somewhere for who knows how long. The strike ended a bit under 2 weeks before Xmas and I think it took until at least towards the mid/end of January for the giant backlog to be cleared. I would not have wanted an expensive item like a doll to be sitting in a warehouse for that long subject to potential damage.

I post almost exclusively doll stuff to my Insta. There's the odd cat pic but it's mostly my dolls and the clothes and eyes I make. I'm pretty random about it, too.

    17. @Iron_Dog - Oh I hear you. The AUD is shocking. :sigh It's part of the reason I've been so quiet in the hobby for a while.
Shaytien looks lovely in that outfit! Pity he's not a fan of it. I'm sure someone else in your crew would just adore it though!

@joanmccarthy10 - I have two RingDoll face ups and both are gorgeous!

    18. @Quiet and Insane I need to find Shaytien his husband and I think I have but due to the terrible exchange I've been thinking extra hard about it. It's a pre-loved doll so I can't contemplate the orb for too long or someone else will grab him. He's a really good price but exchange is tears worthy so I want to be very sure. I'm also looking at another doll to be partner to a different doll of mine and he's way down at the bottom of the dolly price point. He's time limited (because of course he is) so I need to decide very soon on him, too. My wallet is hyperventilating at the idea of buying 2 dolls at basically the same time even if they're very reasonable in price.

I did the math on the Alpha and even blank (but with the electroplating and including shipping), he'd hurt my dolly savings something fierce due to exchange. And as much as I love the look of him, I don't feel he'd be a good fit with Shaytien. I'm sad about that but maybe some day....

    19. It touches the neck, the chin/ jaw and back of the head. I was able to get the paint off the neck but not the back of the head

    20. Well I hope Shaytien loves whomever you decide to bring home for him (and I hope your poor wallet can recover). :aheartbea

      • x 1
    21. I dithered too long and the doll I was contemplating sold *sigh*. My fault. But at the same time I'm not crushed so perhaps he wasn't the right one for Shaytien. In light of that, I'd like some opinions/experience from people here.

What companies have head proportions that are similar to RD in head size? Male sculpts specifically but I'm totally open to a female head on a male body. RD seems to have a smaller than average noggin for an SD that is 68cm (Shaytien is wearing a 7/8 wig and it wasn't a struggle to get it on him), which I didn't know since Shaytien is my first RD. I do have a lot of dolls I can compare with him but due to the nature of my collection, a lot of them are from companies that no longer exist or the doll itself was limited/rare so....

I am NOT asking what people have for sale. Just a direction for me to start looking at companies that could work regards compatible head size.

He's currently sitting next to Braithwyn (Soom Chrom head on FL65 body) and while Braithwyn does have a larger head than him, it's not yikes bigger so older Soom may work? I'd prefer to stay in the 65cm range or up to 68cm. I do not want to go bigger than 70cm (which I feel is a LOT of doll for me, my 72cm boys are huge to me). I have zero brand loyalty, weird and unusual is my jam and while I dislike having to set up a hybrid I'm not at all opposed to the idea as I have several. I also have a terrible soft spot for old school sculpts although they're likely unsuitable as their heads tend to run large in my experience. My one auto-nope is anything Volks.

I know the simple solution would be to get another RD boy (twist my rubber arm on that, lol), but I also want to see/know what my potential other options are. One of the RD boys that I'd love to get (basic Alpha with electroplating) would really hurt my wallet due to the terrible exchange rate of the Canadian dollar at this time (he'd be at least $800CAN before shipping and that's not even the fullset). I also love the Ashford sculpt so there is that as well.

    22. Dollshe’s old 18m’s are pretty small heads (not the grown versions, but the older versions!), older Soom Supergems,Ike you’ve said, DS Doll and argodoll are both in Russia, so getting dolls from them is a little shaky, but they have small heads. Black Cherry is also Russian, and only does heads, but they’re on the smallish side. Impldoll’s newer girl heads are pretty small. If you can find a lillycat heads without a body, those are small, Dollmore model/eve/zaoll heads are also decently small.

    23. @Chameleon Thanks for all the suggestions. It's very much appreciated and certainly helps narrow and focus the field for where I can potentially look. Shaytien isn't being demanding at this point but I want to be able to plan and save for his potential soul-mate.

Hmmm, I have 2 Dollshe's (Orijean & Hound) but I think they're the Grown versions? I know when I put my Hound next to Shaytien, it was a nope and I think the Orijean is of the same head size although I didn't sit them next to each other so I can't say 100%. They would've made things a touch easier as I have a 2nd Hound head and a 2nd Orijean faceplate (which would need a headback but I have a potential solution for that).

I've also got great fondness for some of the older Soom sculpts like Sard and Heliot so it's nice to know this could be a potential excuse to finally bring one of them home. My only issue is that Rhyia's head (Euclase from the first release in 2008) looked bigger than I was comfortable with next to Shaytien's head. Or maybe it was the mildly hostile side-eye they were giving each other that put the possibility out of my mind in general. Or even that Rhyia's head is the meditation head with the giant wing ears and that was throwing the scale off to me.

I have an Argo boy but he's a tiny so doesn't really count in this situation, lol. They do have some heads I like though although I'm not a fan of the neck joint I've seen on some of the pics of the 1/3 bodies. I know next to nothing about Black Cherry. I've only heard of them in passing so I'll have to poke around and see if anything tweaks me. I have stared longingly at the Lillycat Ombre head more that once so it's good to know that could have potential should I ever find one. I have multiple Impl boys so that wouldn't be a hardship for me to look at either.

    24. Hi all! I was wondering if anybody has pictures of all of the garments that come with Crown Prince Xie Lian? I'm curious about the breakdown of parts of the outfit for a project I'm making.

    25. [IMG]

I finally got around to making a new wig for my Hawkley. As much as I adore his full set I wasn't a fan of the wig. So I decided to make him one from alpaca fiber.

    26. Hi guys, has anyone had the chance to purchase or hold a doll in either of the two tan shades (light tan skin and tan skin)? Any hope that it resembles Soom's light tan?

    27. I purchased Saladin in tan. I haven't recieved him yet but will post pictures when he arrives.

    28. Ughhhh the new Frankenstein sculpt is SO BEAUTIFUL! :love They really went all out with this one. I'm so sad that even with a layaway I can't afford him (bills to pay, adult nonsense to attend to :...()

      • x 4
    29. They did do an amazing job on the re-release of Frankenstein. They've come out with some really amazing dolls lately. I'm still in love with the Alpha body (with electroplating, of course). But life conspires against my dolly desires right now *sigh so he remains a dream.

Being an Adult is not as advertised and involves constant bait & switch on what you get with the build. You cannot uninstall (unless you brick the whole machine, which is pointless), it comes with a massive amount of bloat/malwear that also can't be scrubbed from the system. It's buggy as heck despite being an ancient program, too. Once you have the trial running, just before the trial period is over, it stealth autopays for the full version, frequently with add-on's you don't want and can't turn off/disable/uninstall.

Zero stars. Do not recommend. Would not purchase again.

I have a question. Does anyone here have the RT body 3? I'm looking at purchasing one for a head I recently received and the website says the neck is 10cm. Is this accurate?

Ideally, this head would take a 9.5cm (it's an ancient DZ head) but I've tested it with several bodies I have and I can go up to a 10cm neck without losing too much mobility. I could hunt around for an old DZ body but I don't want this character to be that tall (68-70cm) as I want him shorter than Shaytien (RD Virgo) and the RT-3 body is supposed to be 64cm with head. The RT-3 body also fits what I'd like him to have regards shape/aesthetics.

I'm not overly concerned with resin match as I knew from the jump that there'd be blush-to-match due to the age of the head (WS mellowed to a medium/dark cream? maybe like a Dollshe pale?) and I'd be getting the body in NS so if any one has some examples of that next to other resin, I'd be grateful, too.

    30. I just had to comment because of this bit. That got a hearty, actual Laugh Out Loud from me. It really do be like that!

But more on topic, I haven't committed to any Ringdolls yet, but I have to say that Frankenstein is spectacular. I think that's the most impressive bit of dolly engineering I've seen yet! He's not my "vibe", but I would've still been tempted if I could get the grey skin on a nude doll. It's just as well that I can't, because I might regret the purchase, though not for lack of admiration towards the sculpt.

At this rate, though, it won't be long before Ringdoll drops something I won't be able to walk away from :XD:

    31. @Rekka Thank you. I have my moments.

Ringdoll has been coming out with some gorgeous dolls of late. The re-release of Baldwin was also tempting for me because that head with the disfigurement is right up my alley for the unusual. But he's taller than I want going forward with my collection (I'd make an exception for Alpha because I'm terribly weak and adore him) and my dolly funds are in much too short supply to afford him even if he was of a height I wanted. They also tempted me horribly with the 1/4 size Anubis.

    32. Rerelease Baldwin is so tempting, but I just know his head will be too small compared to my other dolls and I've sold dolls for that reason (the pain and wallet salvation of only owning more old-schooled styled big head dolls!)
I'll just keep enjoying him through other people's pictures while I wait for my Alpha body :)

    33. I'm only concerned about head size when it comes to who is getting paired with who. Outside of that, I have a multitude of head sizes (and heights) in the SD selection. And that's even for ones that exist in the same world and as far as characters go, would interact. But I also buy what fits my idea of the characters and pay little attention to sizing of the couple in relation to others they share the world with.

Like Rhas-Khan and Eilam are 51cm & 52cm respectively. Their son, Malachite, who is on the shorter side of things like his dad, Rhas-Khan, is actually taller than him in doll form at 56cm. Valerian (49.5cm) is good friends with Yalaren (62cm) and in-story, they're pretty much the same height although they're most certainly not as dolls. Rensairue (51cm) is the son of Akash (72cm) and in-story, Rensairue is only a little shorter than his dad.

@castironteapot Please post pics of the Alpha body when you get him as I can only experience him vicariously through other owners right now.

      • x 1
    34. Yesssssss I bought Alpha (70cm version) and just finished my layaway on him, and Alice is saying 2-3 more months (I ordered the 30th of January!) what head are you planning for the body?

      • x 2
    35. Nice to hear that Alpha should only be a few more months! I'm really interested in seeing how the electroplating works out.

I haven't locked in a particular head for the body, but I have a few floaters to try. If those don't work out, a lot of small artists make heads for 75cm size, so I'll look around until something speaks to me

    36. Ringdoll has so many gorgeous dolls available right now. My favorites are Lucifer 2.0, Anubis and Frankenstein. I wish a blank Frankenstein could be ordered in gray, but I suppose if I do give in to temptation and get him I could get white resin and blush him gray. Ramsses II looks so similar to Soom Phonolus, which is probably why I find him so pretty. I also love Baldwin's leprosy mug.

    37. My current favourites are Alpha (electroplated version) and Ashford. I also really like the Baldwin leprosy head but unusual is my jam so....

    38. I wanted Frankenstein for sooo long and didn't think he would come out again! I was shocked when they re-released him again!! I must have him!:chibi

    39. same here!! I've been pining for the v1/v2 for years and then they suddenly rerelease frankenstein in an even more beautiful form than before...I never buy dolls new from the company, so this will be one of my first times having to actually Wait

    41. I have a boy on this body. The neck is 10cm. I just double checked by measuring.

    42. @RabbidBunnies Thank you very much! Now to juggle a little finances to get said body.

    43. Hi! Does anyone who already received Ringdoll Alpha body with chrome plating, did you notice if it's an easy scratch it or not? Should I use mr. clear and alternatives to protect the chroming parts from it? Possibly anyone can share their experience with it

    44. I have been really impressed by Ringdoll coming out with Egyptian Theme Dolls! :dance I saw when Soom did this but by far Ringdoll has been one of the most detailed that I have seen. :aeyepop: Ramesses II is definitely on my wish list :whee:but has anyone else seen other bjd companies do Egyptian Theme Bjds?

    46. Sorry for the double post. My laptop was being weird

    47. Dollzone, but is was a limited release. They had an Anubis, and a cat faced one as well. I think you can still get them under cat and dog uncle, but not the whole Anubis full set thing.

RabbidBunnies thank you! I always find out about these cool releases to late but I was prepared. I just really wanted to see more designs of this!:cheer

Wow, they did three of them! I must look up all of these as well!:dance

    50. @Lady L There were 2 DV Bastet in the MP a while back but I don't know if they're still there (the market is slow right now, I think, so maybe?). I do know that they were limited so your only option to get one would be 2nd hand.

    51. @Iron_Dog Thank you for telling me. I will have to do some more research of course. :3nodding: At least, I got Bast and Anubis from Ringdoll to start. I am so happy to see more doll companies creating Egyptian Dolls and I hope they continue to make more in the future too. :eusa_pray

@Iron_Dog I love fullset! I would have brought DOT Sha's Fullset but sadly his outfit was long gone when I finally discovered him.:...( I will buy other outfits for my dollies too but some fullsets just shocked me with how detailed they are. Ringdoll being an example of this with so many dolls I want. :D
That's crazy the one fullset you purchased became a super one of a kind and insane what happen to the artist.:o I dld see Soom Ender with the Jackal head on the site and loved it!:whee: I will keep looking for more Egyptian theme dolls and thank you for telling me more. I appreciate all the information!:dance

    52. @Lady L I like the concept of the Bast and Anubis Ringdoll has done but knowing myself, I wouldn't end up keeping them that way. I am content to admire them in other's collections. But I also never purposefully buy fullsets so....

I have only ever purchased a fullset once and that was because there was no other way for me to get my grubby hands on the doll I wanted. On the upside, he is an artist special cast, the only one they ever did in the colour he's cast and the only one the artist customized in that way. The sculpt was discontinued about 9 months before I bought him (I hadn't know he was discontinued) and about a year later the artist suffered a fire and lost a number of things including the master. So he's truly one of a kind and I've not changed anything about him.

Additionally, waaaay back in the day, Soom did Ender and the first release was with a black resin jackal head (in addition to the human head) and Egyptian inspired costume. A friend of mine has an Ender (fully human, no jackal head, no outfit) and he's beautiful. You can still find the human version now and again 2nd hand but finding the jackal head seems more difficult. I don't know about the outfit.

    53. @xatshe I just received my plated Alpha body and noticed scratches and wear at the joints. I don't know if they were scratched in transit but I'm sure the plating is similar to body blushing and joints will always be vulnerable.

      • x 2
    54. That's disappointing that there's already scratches/wear in the joints when you've literally just received him. But it is a finish on the resin and not the resin itself that is that colour so I guess it's to be expected.

    55. mine was mostly smooth (it arrived with broken finger and later inner part of the knee fell off) but during restringing process it scratched despite I was very careful, so that's why I was wondering should I protect it with something. I take photos with my dolls, I can't just leave him sitting, it was not the purpose :sweat

    56. @xatshe Part of the plating itself fell off? That's concerning. Did you contact RD about it and if so, what was their response?

    57. I contacted to RD regarding the hand, but not after the part cracked and fell off because at this point it's hard to prove I didn't hit it. Hand was broken after I opened the box and there is a video of the process. In this case I just bend the knees and part of the leg that holds knee join fell off. Since I didn't hit it, possibly it's construction of the knees itself, hard to say, it's my first RD body and it's a new body type, so when I ordered it there wasn't any feedback about it.
RD promised to replace the hand though

      • x 1
    58. @xatshe I'm glad to hear they're replacing the hand for you.

I have a doll (not RD) that I'm guessing had a weak spot or stress fracture inside the resin and when I went to string him (he was 2nd hand, shipped unstrung, bubble wrapped to heck & back and damage free when unwrapped), just the act of fitting the knee into the joint as I strung him made a piece break off. It was an easy fix to repair but it was distressing when it happened. There was nothing about the part that looked damaged at all when I got him so it's just a best guess as to why it happened. Perhaps something like that is what happened with your boy?
