Nice! I love the quote in the second photo! I'm not far from New Orleans (about an hour or two away) but I'm not a Mardi Gras person. I've basically avoided every parade so far, and haven't even bought a king cake - it's so sad
@StellaMarigold The Church doesn't really embrace Mardi Gras--a bit excessive on the excess and I'm not a big fan of parades, but I would love to try a king cake, they look scrumptious!
I like seeing Kurt again X) You're so creative with what you do with him, it's made me consider getting something small and different like him. He'd be great for tourism/travel photos.
It does depend on how you celebrate Mardi Gras! I'm pretty traditional Catholic, and one of the things I love about the Church is its kind of disciplined liberality - you can enjoy the good (having fun with friends, taking kids to decent parades, eating delicious food) and reject the destructive (excessive drinking, immoderate behavior, etc). I say this not to contradict you - just to provide a different perspective - you're absolutely right that many Mardi Gras celebrations get way out of hand and don't reflect on the whole idea of a day of fun before forty days of reflection and self-denial The thing about king cakes is that when I was a kid they always hid a little plastic baby in them and if you found the baby you were supposed to be lucky for the year (or something like that) BUT I was always scared that someone would eat the baby or choke on it! So now I find them a bit creepy lol.
@ZennoSaji , I've been in the hobby for about ten years now and I've gone from mini-size dolls to tiny anthros to large dolls to tiny human dolls to extra-large dolls and several sizes in-between. And right now I am having the most fun with the little ones. The big ones are gorgeous but they are more difficult to handle and photograph, and simply not as versatile. With the big ones I usually end up taking portraits but with Kurt, and other tinies,I'm inspired to do so much more! @StellaMarigold , I believe you! I've only been to New Orleans once and it wasn't even during Mardi Gras. I was looking at my Catholic calendar and it barely even mentions Shrove Tuesday so I figured Mardi Gras would not be highly endorsed. But I'm sure it can be enjoyed without going over the top. I've seen pictures of the little plastic cake-babies and they really do seem a bit unsafe. But it doesn't sound as bad as the English Christmas pudding which can have coins, buttons, thimbles and rings inside!
@phanuel - Oh, yes, English pudding with all the fixings sounds terrifying to me! I don't know who came up with these things haha. Going back to the original topic, I really agree with you about the versatility of the tiny dolls. The smallest one I have is 19cm, and even though it is hard to make clothes for her, she is so easy to transport and handle.
