So Yesterday I got a parcel in the Mail. Inside was a Resinsoul Lan that I had bought on facebook for a steal. There was a bunch of cute free things the seller had added along with it and I am very grateful for that, but the doll is obviosly the main thing. I'd never seen a 1/4 size doll before and was amazed at the size difference between her and my 1/3 size doll. This little lady not only had a faceup but had been dyed partially pink and partially tan. I started with a chemichal bath to get as much lifted as possible. It shifted some, but not all, so after a little experimenting and researching we managed to lift both the faceup and the dye with a combination of Winsor & Newton brush cleaner and 600 grit sandpaper. This has revealed a very pale resin underneeth which will actually be perfect for my plans! This does, however look like it will be a tedious job, but boy is it satisfying!
She's looking great so far! If you're worried about scratches, go over her afterwards with some 1000 grit. Glad you gave her a good home!
So, we're a day into the sanding, had some very kind friends help me, again, very grateful! I feel like progress is being made, and now its mainly large smooth bits its going to start going quicker. Here she is after her first 24 hours with me, what is sanded is far from perfect, but I definetly feel better about her than I did. Obviosly have a way to go, but where the pink remains is helping me map out body blushing! One area I'm having issues with is hands, and I imagine I'll find the same issue with feet. Does anyone have any advice for how to sand in the creases without removing the detales? Also, continually getting new ideas for her that were no where near my original plans, so who knows where she will be when finished.
Great progress! She's looking nice! For the hands: small piece of sandpaper folded in half so there's grit on both sides. Insert folded edge into crack and sand as gently as possible. That's the best way I can think of.
I've done as much sanding as I feel I am able without damaging the detale, I'm sure any further pink will be incorparated into, or covered by body blushing or faceup. Although next I want to make a wig for her!
That's great progress! I actually like the hands the way they are in your photograph - the creases do show up where you would want body blushing, IMHO. My Ian (in my profile picture) thanks you for saving her sister.
Okay, I looked at a few tutorials and had another attempt at a wig and I'm so much happier with this one! This is a Hard cap wig made with acrylic yarn. I thought the yarn in the shop was brown but bit's made this beautiful aubern which I'm not mad at. The hairline is janky but I know what to do next time to fix it.
I decided she needed some clothes. My sewing machine decided it was broken. I ended up sewing by hand... I'm littery using a plain cotton tee just to check if my pattern works. Needed a few adjustments, but it does indeed work! With a thinner material this could be a cute Salem vibe dress.
Oh, I hadnt considered doing that, I suppose it would only fit dolls her size though, It would probably be easier to explain how to draft your own pattern as it really is a simple pattern.
She's looking fantastic! I love a restoration project, this is way more extensive than anything I've ever done myself and it's so awesome to see it turn out so well, congratulations on a job well done! She's gonna look even more amazing as you get her more finished, I can't wait to see!
So, now I'm happy with the dress pattern I want to make it in a nicer fabric. I found choosing fabric for this scale so different than I do when making clothes for myself, The hang at this scale is so different, and I'm enjoying the challenge. I went for some black crepe which I feel was a sound choice. I added faux buttons at the back made from tiny glass beads. I know it will be covered most of the time by the shawl, but I'm finding the details are important. On the note of details, I made her a little satanic rosary from some broken jewellery and more of the glass beads, I'm not 100% sure on the way the beads sit, but it will do for now. I've also tried again with the wig, I feel it's a better hairline, but it's still not giving what I want. I finally feel like she's starting to come together, the next challenge is leather working, I want a belt, boots and possibly a bag. I have leather ready, and I just have to take the plunge. One thing I am struggling with is is working out a name. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I like the dress! The tiny buttons are really cute. For names, is there a theme you’re going on? Lilith is the name of a demon in Jewish/Christian beliefs. Since you’re using a satanic symbol, a demon sort of fits the theme. I think she was also associated with owls? Not sure. Nyx was the Greek goddess of darkness. Selene and Artemis were the moon goddesses. Hel was the daughter of Loki in Norse mythology and ruled the afterlife. Raven, Luna, Salem, etc. are other creepy sounding names.
I know she's not finished, but I wanted to do a photoshoot with her today. This is at an ancient chapel, the Yew tree that she is on for most of the pics is around 600 years old.
