Resinsoul centaurs!

May 18, 2016

    1. @Nefla Thank you!
@kurogane Oh, that's so cool looking in clear resin!

    2. OMG she is ADORABLE! That outfit and pose is the cutest thing ever!

    3. @kurogane OH I LOVE THAT! I may seriously have to reconsider my 'no new dolls' policy to pick up one of these guys... soooo cute! And they'd definitely tide me over til I can save up for my DC Alberta & Amos... one day I'll have an entire family! Our current living situation is just too small and crowded for my dolls. My poor SD has been in a box for a year now.

    4. Anyone happen to know what size eyes Winter takes?

    5. Mine has 14mm eyes in.

    6. Anyone know what wig size Summer takes? (I'm getting one on a Xu body.)

      • x 1
    7. My Spring, Ni, Pixiu, and Bei all use 5/6 wigs :)

      • x 1
    8. Sweet. I was wondering if they were the same wig size. >w<

      • x 1
    9. No problem :)

    10. Yay. ^^

    11. @NamelessPierrot and @Arashi Uchiha

Winter's head measures 6.25" around the wig line. The antlers that come with him do have strong magnets but I feel that even a well fitting wig might require some slits for the antlers to sit well on his head. Winter's eye openings are 12mm across. I believe he is wearing 14mm low dome acrylics which are original to him. He belongs to my son, so I didn't want to take his head off. One thing I did notice about his eyes is that the iris nearly fully fills his eye opening, and exceeds the opening top to bottom. If you like that look, I'd say go for regular 14mm eyes but if you prefer something a bit more mature looking, check out low dome Beetle eyes with a small iris in 14mm. I've used these glass eyes in other dolls and they look great. I will ask my son another day to try those sorts of eyes in him but he isn't available to ask right now. Let me know if you would like a photo.

Pi measures 5.5" around the wig line. His eye openings are 11mm across. I believe we used low dome acrylic eyes for him in 12mm. They are cat eyes to make him look more dragon-like, so not originals.

I'm not sure what Spring's head measures... but I do have a Bei in the house.

    12. Thanks for the info.

    13. Hi, I fell in love with the deertaurs as soon as I saw them, especially Winter. The only thing I'm unsure of is if he'll fit with another YoSD I want. The measurements for that doll (since it's off topic, I'll just leave the measurements) are:
      • Height : 27cm
      • Eyes : 12-14mm
      • Shoulder: 6.8cm
      • Arm: 8cm
      • Chest: 12cm
      • Waist: 10.5cm
      • Hips: 14cm
      • Leg: 11cm
      • Foot: 3.8cm
I'm just wondering if this doll and the Winter would look okay next to each other? And if the off-topic doll would be able to potentially be posed on Winter's back? Thanks for any help, I love seeing these little cuties!

    14. I think it depends on the head size of the OT doll. That will make the biggest difference to whether they look right together imo.

The OT doll should be able to ride Winter’s back, but it won’t look super comfortable. I’ve done the same with my comparable dolls, and they don’t look like he could hold them for long. If you’re after realism, it won’t look so good, but just for fun they’ll fit!

If you say the name of the OT doll (I’m pretty sure that’d be okay, it’s not like you’re making it the topic of conversation or posting phtotos), someone with more familiarity could give you good advice!

    15. The doll is a Hujoo Iris, I just don't know how strict mods are about off topic dolls, sorry. And I tried finding the head measurements, but they weren't listed on any site the doll is being sold from

    16. Her head is listed as 6-7 inches on Angelesque. Winter’s is between 5-6. I think there is a risk she will look bobbleheaded next to him, but whether that’s an issue for you is your preference. She could have a head that is up to an inch and a half bigger, and that’s a lot with dolls this size. She may also actually be 6 inches exactly, and will only be slightly bobble headed. Either way though, her head will definitely be bigger.

As ABS, she’ll balance on him fine though! The lightness will make her easy to pose on his back.

I don’t know if any of this helps, but I hope it does! They’re unlikely to be a perfect match, but they might be close enough that strategic wigs mask the difference in head size! It all depends on how closely you want them to match anyway, on a basic level they’re definitely compatible.

    17. @nattherat Thank you! I totally forgot Angelesque sold that sculpt, whoops! And hmmm.... I think I'll still get Iris and try to make it work, it's so hard to find sculpts like that one with the ears and such. Thank you so much for helping me, I really appreciate it!

    18. No problem, I hope it works out for you! :D

    19. So I'm getting Summer but as a human - is he still allowed here occasionally?

    20. Wow, that wig is so cute on her!

    21. Has anyone got an Resinsoul centaur as well as a Fairyland or Luts centaur and could comment on how they compare? Do they go together well?

    22. I have a Kid Delf Centaur on the way. My ResinSoul is unstrung, but once I get my Kid DELF, I can take pictures for you! It will be awhile though since I ordered in late December.

Also, haha, talking about restringing. My poor Spring is in pieces and has been for about a year. I am having trouble restring her. Its the middle piece that has me confused, what elastic goes where? Can anyone help me?

I took her apart to sued her and body blush. Im doing all the work on her myself. Im confused on the best way to string her centaur parts, and how the elastic goes. If anyone can just draw me a quick reference of how she is strung, that would be perfect! Just need to know how the elastic is laid out. Thanks a bunches.

      • x 1
    23. That would be fantastic, cheers :)

    24. I imagine somebody will provide you with better reference (mine's all packed away right now!) but I'll try to help all the same! I've restrung mine many times whilst doing all the body blushing, and if I remember right it's relatively simple. The front legs string exactly like ordinary legs do. One long loop from the ankles up to the head. The hind legs string from the back hooves up to the waist, you can tie it off and have the knot in the doll's belly.

If you want it super tight, you can take the hind leg elastic right up to the head as well, but I found that just made it way too unstable and kicky for me, I tied it off at the waist instead. It's pretty simple, but just to make it clear just in case: There are three loops of elastic, one for each set of limbs. One for the arms, one for the forelegs, and one for the hindlegs. The forelegs elastic travels up the human body to go on the S-hook, the hindlegs elastic travels up the deer body to knot at the waist. (Admittedly Resinsoul may have shipped the doll to you with every piece of elastic pulled up to the head, arms and hindlegs included. It's up to you if you want to do that, I don't tend to find it necessary or worth the hassle.)

If I understand your question correctly: that middle piece, the one that connects the human parts to the deer parts? Both forelegs and hindlegs elastic runs through it as normal, left on the left, right on the right, etc etc. But tie off the hindlegs there if you like, and run only the foreleg elastic right up through the torso to the head.

Sorry that that's a written description rather than a drawing, but hopefully that helps!

    25. Speaking of comparisons, I don't know if it's a comparison anybody would be interested in, but sometime in the coming months I should hopefully have a Loongsoul 1/6 centaur arriving! I decided I wanted a different look for my character, and the sculpting on their bodies was more like what I needed. I'll be letting go of my Resinsoul centaur most likely, but before I do so, I'll happily share some photos of the two side by side!

    26. Thank you. Yeah the middle piece where it connects the human parts to deer parts is the one that confused me. Makes a lot more sense now.
I will try to restring once I get some fresh elastic. c:

    27. Anyone know what size eye summer takes? I was thinking 12mm (He's supposed to be a young child)

    28. Mine is wearing 14mm low-dome eyes.

    29. In this picture Autumn's wearing 12 mm eyes (sorry, I don't have a Summer but they should be pretty similar)

      • x 1
    30. Ooo both look really good. Thank ya for the info.

    31. Sun told me they have 12mm eyes.

I just ordered a Summer in dark tan. I don't want him to be a deer but an actual Centaur from my AU so I'll be giving him fur to cover the cloven hooves and wrapping a thin piece of black elastic covered in brushed out black wool around the little deer tail to make a horse tail. Not sure if I'll be blushing with pastels or watered down sponged on acrylic to paint/blush his horse parts but maybe a blend of both. I'll be making his wig myself.

Summer doesn't seem very popular but he's perfect for my needs! He's exactly the right size to be my SD doll's young son.

Because he can change between centaur and human form I might one day get him a human body but the yosds seem a bit too small to be the right scale with my SDs.

    32. Can't wait to see another Summer. Mine'll be mostly in the human thread since he'll be on the Xu body. XD I can't wait to get him home though.

I wound up ordering the 12 mm and since Song takes 14 mm I ordered my Song's eyes too. So we'll see what looks better in him when I get him home. I'm so excited.

    33. NEW DOLL!

Can it be classified in centaurs (・ิω・ิ)?

      • x 7
    34. That is beautiful!

    35. I just ordered a doll and RS releases this. CURSE YOU SUN AND YOUR AMAZINGNESS.

Goodness a dragontaur. That is just so COOL!

    36. I think it’s the deertaur body with just a few minor modifications, so I think it should belong here too!

It’s very cool of them to see what more they can do with the body type, and that transparency is lovely!

      • x 1
    37. Seriously, they're nailing it in the transparent department. That gradient from red to blue on the tail is gorgeous.

    38. I just found the dragontaur on the website! That's so cool I went "Eeeek!" when I saw it. I think I need one of these!

    39. Hmm maybe I wonder if the dragon fits Pixius legs..

      • x 1
    40. If you or anyone tries this, I'd love to see results! I don't have a good enough reason to get the dragontaur at the moment due to not having a specific character to shell (I made a promise for 2018 re: budgeting and I have to stick with it) but as long as it's not limited I might have to come up with something for next year's possibilities. :)

    41. RS doesn't do limiteds so I think we're good. ^w^

    42. I just wanted to share some Summer love before running off to the human thread

      Gene has made his appearance!

      • x 2
    43. This is the best picture I’ve seen of the Summer face. It’s really lovely! Or, in Gene’s case, handsome.

    44. Thank ya. I'm really happy with my little guy he's everything I wanted and more.

    45. I'm thinking pretty hard about getting one of thses cuties, but because they have season names trying to search for owner photos of them online is a nightmare.

Could I see face shots of people's Summer and Autumn dolls?

    46. So far I have had no need for a deertaur
It's a dragontaur and am four legged so I guess it's ok to post it here :)

So far I have had no need for a deertaur. But the dragontaur is hard to resist! I'm thinking about maybe getting a Pi head on a Nian body.

    47. Look how cute that dragontaur is! The little unicorn horn and wings are adorable.

Hmm. There's fur fluffs around the ankles, and the body proportions look really similar to the deertaurs. I wonder if they actually use the same parts? I don't know how common that is in BJDs.

    48. I remember wanting one of these centaurs so bad back when they first came out. I finally got one a few months on a whim when I saw that Denverdoll had a lilac one in stock :D
      [IMG]
This is Amaranthe! I still have to dye/blush her hooves and fingernails black.

    49. She is gorgeous :)

    50. I would have jumped on that too, that skin tone is gorgeous.

    51. He's on a human body but here's my Summer, Gene with his antlers

    52. Any idea if the dragontaur horn is a magnetic attachment or not? I'd love that horn on the spring Centaur!

    53. I really want Spring (or Winter). Tiny little tails!!!!!

    54. I've already overspent on dolls this year, but now that Nian is out I may have to order one after the new year. A Nian in blue with the deer hooves would make a decent start on an Andalite bjd, which my inner child dearly wants lol. Then I'd just have to mod the head and the tail slightly.

I'm assuming one can just email them asking about alterations/resin and they calculate an invoice for you?

      • x 2
    55. Yes, you can get the parts cast in different resin, but you would need to order via email. I had the human parts one color, the deer body another and a third for the antlers.

    56. Thanks, @mollym ! It's so cool how much customization they offer. I guess I'll shoot them an email once I have the funds ready.

    57. Neat! It's always good to know exactly what you want and have some time to think it over. I don't know if it's true for the majority, but, when I have a lot of time to think about a doll and make a decision, I'm always much happier for it. The one I ordered has translucent brown antlers, but I really wish I had asked for black hooves. I've yet to paint that guy, just got the standard faceup, but one thing is for sure, the stringing on them is odd. I've hesitated to work on that one due to the stringing method that I have yet to understand. That one belongs to my son, but I will try to get some photos of his doll to share.

    58. They're so cool!

    59. Yes, I've never regretted taking my time in this hobby, even if I end up going with my initial impulse anyway-- at least I can rest easier in my decision knowing I've covered the angles. Plus, the planning stages are half the fun.

I love to see pictures! And that's good to know about the stringing. This would be my first centaur, and I foresee I'll have trouble with that third string.
