I heard of another artist (I can't remember who for the life of me though) casting through resinsoul. I've been in contact with them for a day now, and Sun has been lovely, answering all my questions. But now I want to see if anyone else has any experience with casting through them. They also said for Arwen she'd most likely be around 80$ per doll. Is this a good price? They also said I'd have to cast at least 20, but as I understand it this is normal.
I was looking around as well, and I originally wanted to go with Haru as well. Unfortunately for me, Haru requires that you do not use Krylon brand primer, which I sadly did. If you don't do that though, Haru is definitely a great price, with a low order requirement. For my head, I am going with Islanddoll - they have a 10 piece minimum, and were only a little more expensive than Haru.
Here is harus price list, they do however need information about exact height, measurements and number of parts to give you an exact cost of casting Fulldoll Casting Price They have before sent out colour samples for only the shipping cost, do not know if they still do tough
Awesome! That price list is super useful! And very encouraging since I want to make tinies XD Does anyone know which primers etc to avoid if casting with Harudolls? I have seen people say Tamiya primer is okay. I have some Plastikote myself, but will drop it in a heartbeat if it's not possible to use it for casting. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. :3 Edit: ah, I found a blog post from Haru saying to avoid polyurethane primer. Plastikote is polyethylene, so I guess it'll have similar problems. -_- I guess that's a useless can of primer then... (I wish it was easier to find out what chemicals are in which primers before purchasing. None of the Tamiya listings I've found so far list details. Kinda a pain when shopping online... grumble grumble)
Mr Surfacer primer is okay to use (asked them and they responded it would work), I use it since i can get it from a local model building store
out of curiosity in their newer shades, it looks like there's a couple of pictures on their flickr as well ^o^ Resin Colour Haru Shades I know they have some more colors though, I was hoping to find their darker shades or the full range of colors since they have so many variations on their flickr/insta.
Omg, thanks guys for this thread! I've been wondering about some of this stuff. I'm considering Haru and also planning to check out Dolls Casting Service (@dolls_casting_service on IG...they cast Twigling and Clockwork Faery Co) when I am ready. But also had been wondering what primer to use since I had heard to avoid Krylon for Haru. I was going to research it later, but now I guess I'll go with Mr. Surfacer!
Has anyone that used Haru just bought the elastic, magnets, and s hooks from them and strung the bjds themselves? I know they are doing finishing/stringing services with casting orders now, but I am curious if they would sell you the parts for that so you could do it yourself if you wanted.
Does anyone who has worked with Haru, or has contacted him about casting services know how much he charges for making the mold? I see cost per doll, but nothing about the cost of having the mold made.
I haven't used their service, but I reasearched a bit about casting companies, and I remembered reading somewhere that they don't have a separate mold making fee. I just found where I read it. seed arts
