Thinking about ordering RS Rong soon... for those who have her, did you like the faceup she came with? things you like/don't like about the doll? I need to do so much research I am so indecisive, especially since this will be my first bjd ;____;

 

My Rong has the default face up. Since she has the lt tan/coffee skin, I think it's a bit too light. It's not bad for a basic face up though. nothing fancy. I don't have any complaints about her.

here is a pic of my rong twins. they and my yao were my first dollies. i can't say anything about the company faceups cuz i got mine blank, but i just love the shape of the body and the adorable ears! i think rs is a great company to go with for your first doll as the wait time is usually a month or so (and they are great with special requests - hence the yao horns and sui hands )

 

Like LuckyXIII said, the default is a bit light, but then again it's a company face up (for $10!!) Personally, I really like the default faceup on my Rong

She is on a Rong body and I like it very much. She won't pose her arms very well right now but I think she is just strung too tightly (she slaps me when I try to make her hold out her arms)

I agree, Rong's faceup is minimal, but I think it suits her. She has such lovely features I don't want to distract from them with extra makeup, if that makes sense.

Hello Vertefae, I owned a Mei a while back, but I sold her and I have a Qing now. Sorry I can't make side by side comparisons for you, but I can take some similar photos to show you if you like. Qing's eyes are really hard to adjust to a natural position even with low dome eyes, but most RS dolls have that trouble in my opinion. I would suggest ordering your girl on the Rong or Li body, though, because the Mei body has some posing limitations.

I love looking at everyone's dolls! They are all so lovely and creative, it makes me excited for when I get my own.

A Resinsoul doll that I am very interested in owning is in stock at the Junky Spot website, and I'm kind of just trying to get my nerve up to place the order because it is a lot of money. It will be well worth it, I know, but I always get cold feet before spending a lot on something and this will be my first BJD. I really like the idea that my doll would get here really quickly since he's in stock, and the fact that the website has great reviews makes me happy, too.

My only question is do I miss out on anything by not ordering directly from Resinsoul? Also, the website doesn't say, but does he come with eyes? I've heard that some websites/companies include random eyes with your doll but I don't know if Junky Spot does. If they don't, that's fine, I'm just curious.

 

You shouldn't be disappointed with an instock doll from them. What you miss out by not ordering from the company is the month waiting time and the larger shipping cost. I'm not sure if they send random eyes with the doll or not, but they might if the doll already has a faceup.

 

HelloGoodbye: One of the benefits of ordering directly from RS is if you want a special colour like their dark tan or dark grey (I have both and they're lovely) or if you want to switch around heads/bodies/hands (I have also done this with one of my boys). However, if the doll you want is in stock at JS, then I'd say go for it as you'll get your lovely very quickly. I can't speak for JS as I've always ordered directly from RS but my guys all came with a random pair of default eyes.

I'm also not sure if the bodies are Bobobie or RS at JS. I think they're BBB but I'm not 100% sure. There is a bit of difference stylistically between the two companies bodies (they're sister companies) but it's not crazy or anything. Others here probably have more info than I do on that as I've got all RS boys.

Ballet, oh my, your girls is just lovely. I adore that dark grey so much. I wish I could fit one into my crew, but I have so many doll plans I decided I'd stick with non-fantasy characters. I can't wait to see Celestina with her new faceup!

HelloGoodbye, like SteamWitch said, you won't be disappointed. Really, the only reason I order directly from Resinsoul is because I like to get extra hands and sometimes heeled feet with my brand new dolls. Otherwise I almost always shop in stock or on the secondhand market.

 

Thank you SteamWitch, Iron_Dog, and Maxtastic! I feel really good about ordering from there now! In a few days once I've thought everything over, hopefully I'll be able to report back that I have placed my order! I'm just hoping the doll doesn't go out of stock while I'm trying get my nerve up to spend the cash! I know I want him so I should just bite the bullet and get the order done, lol, but I always get this way about expensive purchases It's a bad habit!

 

Second guessing purchases is something a lot of us do in this hobby. Let's face it, even the lowest price doll is a good bit of cash to be parting with that serves no real purpose like say... paying rent or buying food or making sure your light bill is paid. Dolls are an indulgence and most of us can't afford to be blaise about dropping a few hundred or even a thousand dollars (or more!) on something like that. Even if you've saved up for your purchase and really, really want the doll you're going to get, it's still kinda scary to hit that 'buy' button and say goodbye to all that money.

I currently have 29 full dolls and 2 floating heads. I've saved hard for them, one of my purchases taking me 9 months worth of saving to be able to buy. And every time, despite having clear goals of what I wanted and saving and dreaming of the doll, saying, "Take my money and give me my doll," still made me hesitate a bit before taking the plunge. I am happy with all of my purchases but it is a little nerve-wracking to lay out that much cash on something that does nothing but make me smile and feel happy when I look at it.

 

Here is Michi, my RS Mai, and his two friends Jamie (DZ Hid) and Chael (DC Colin/AoD hybrid). Mai was my first MSD (and a rescue doll) and I like him so much I bought the other two, so he would have friends (that's what I tell myself anyway ) His joints still don't work perfectly but he is so cute I don't care.

SteamWitch~ I was just admiring that myself! Isn't it crazy how different they look when you get them fixed up? How much a wig, eyes and some paint can change them? I absolutely love it ^o^ it's my favorite thing about seeing other people's dolls

Hi all! I just wanted to pop in and share my Rong, who just got her wig last week. After 9 months, she's starting to come together. Now she just needs clothes of her own... And I need to decide on the right color eyes. I was thinking grey, blue-grey, or maybe even a brighter sort of yellow-orange. Any suggestions?

 

I think any of those eyes would look great on her. Greys would be very nice on her with her hair color but a brighter yellow-orange would make her look wonderfully feral and fierce, so depending on her personality...

 

Hi I hope you don't mind me jumping in on the thread.. I ordered a Ya yesterday, I am not sure which body she is on I went for the double jointed option. I have not ordered her through Resinsoul directly but have gone through an agent in the UK. She will be my first BJD so I have opted for the company face-up for now. I just hope there are no problems with the order etc, I spotted her next order date for Resinsoul was the 31st so I jumped in at the deep end as you can tell I am somewhat paranoid by the whole thing and keep telling myself that the Bank Holiday will delay any emails confirming my order.

 

Hello again! It sounds like your Ya is probably going to be shipped with the Rong body (which is double jointed and has a mature and immature option). You can contact your agent to get clarification, or to request a swap if you want something different.

I do have a question though. I didn't order directly from Resinsoul (if I'm being completely honest, their website just looks really sketching and it's looked really sketchy for like 7 years now), I placed my order through DDE. I feel like those who placed their order through RS may be getting their dolls faster than those purchasing through agents. Is that the case, or am I being paranoid? I ordered a Mei in blue, does the special resin color affect ordering time? The last doll I purchased was about five years ago and I bought her directly from a Volks store, so I'm not really used to these wait times.

 

going direct from Resinsoul is a month and most other's are 2 month's. the resin can take longer but that is only because they do them in batches of doll's but most the time it is a month for making the doll and a week to get to you.

 

Well darn, now I feel like I should have ordered direct. I love DDE, but patience really isn't my strong suit .

 

when it comes to the doll's me either i have gone direct for all of my doll's. Except one because i wanted a bobobie head and a resinsoul body >.<.

 

I did direct through Bobobie because Tripp was a bit of a patchwork, and though the production was fast, communication was slooooow. Dennis was helpful and she arrived exactly to my odd specifications though so I didn't mind too much.
Patience is so hard with dollies and I thought I was a patient person too! I really feel for those who order from somewhere that takes six or so months. I would lose my marbles.
Vanzinger I would go for the grey or yellow-orange though all options do sounds lovely.

 

Ragdolly~ RS's site is a out of the box site clearly run by people who don't know how to *Edit* Make a good looking website *end edit*... That said... their -service- is wonderful. We here on this thread will gladly provide any reference images you need, but you can also email Sun at resinsoul and Sun is wonderful as well, Has sent numerous people reference images and is fairly prompt with answering emails. There is a bit of a language barrier but Sun clearly understands that and will repeat things numerous times in full to be sure everything is correct. In truth, if you order directly, you will usually get your doll in about 30 days, where ordering through a dealer will almost always take nearly 2 months, not to mention they always order in batches so you'll also have to wait for them to send the order in...

Now all that said, if you were looking to order something from BBB, I do suggest Ordering through a dealer. BBB gets overwhelmed quickly and does not answer questions in a timely manor depending on their work load. While there service isn't "bad" I'm very spoiled on Resinsoul's service.

 

Ragdolly, I have to agree that the site looks pretty shady, but I've ordered via email with Resinsoul directly three times now and received all of my orders in less than 30 days, which includes the shipping time also, so yea, ordering direct is a lot faster than going through a dealer. My last order came without the extra hands I requested and Sun didn't question me at all when I let them know. They covered the shipping and I received the hands in less than a week. I know some companies that will tell the customers that they must be mistaken when they're missing parts, or charge them shipping, but Resinsoul is really on point with their service. I'm also not sure, but I think I remember someone saying that you only get a doll carrier with your order if you order direct, but I might be wrong on that.

Vanzinger, your Rong is is beautiful with that wig! I personally love grey eyes, but I think a nice honey brown would look really nice with her wig. Can't wait to see more pics of her as she evolves.

Sweetvioletdreamse, congrats on your first doll! I'm sure that your dealer will come through for you with no issues, but if you don't receive an email with confirmation of your order soon, just go ahead and prod them to make sure it's all okay.

 

Thank you all so much! Now I'm really wondering if I should cancel my order with DDE and redo the order with RS. Since it's a holiday, I'm sure no one is in, but maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask to have Mei taken off of the order (I ordered some eyes and a wig as well, I'll probably let those stand). I just appreciate having several people echo the information I was assuming based off of wait times in the waiting room. If I can shave even a week off of the waiting time, I will definitely do so.

 

I ordered from Resinsoul and had the greatest communication. Sun is great to deal with. I ordered two dolls, both were custom orders. They even made my Gang with elf ears even though that was not a head option on their site. They even sent an extra pair of eyes and putty for him. I'm planning on ordering from Resinsoul again soon.

 

Narie, they added elf ears to a human sculpt? That's probably the most amazing thing I've ever heard of from a BJD company. Was it very expensive to custom order that?

I ordered him with grey skin and a face up. They didn't charge me for the different ears just the color and faceup.

Resinsoul is so awesome for doing custom things...Sun is great! I just emailed and asked if it was a possibly and got an mail right back saying yes. If you like fantasy eyes I highly suggest CandyKitten's emporium on etsy. It takes a while to get them since they are made to order, but they are sparkly and beautiful with fabulous depth. Captured in glass is nice too but I have only ever looked, not yet bought. I got Tripp's wig from eBay and would have to look up the seller so not much help there.

For eyes, I really like Ersa Flora; you get the color and pattern variety from acrylics (which they are) mixed with excellent light reflecting properties to keep them from looking flat or dull in photos, and they're really quite affordable. For wigs, I go almost exclusively with For My Doll these days, because they've got a huge variety, so I can always find something I like with them. As for clothes, there's lots of resources on Etsy, as well as Taobao, for cute and affordable clothing, as well as some great beginner's tutorials here if you want to make things yourself. I hope that helps!

 

As far as clothes go, RS dolls are on the skinnier side of things so some pants may have a lot of room at the waist and some shirts may end up too broad in the shoulders for the boys. Their feet are also more narrow and smaller than other minis. I can't speak for the girls regards clothes/shoes as I don't collect girls but I've heard that they can be a little tricky in that regard, too. When looking for clothes, check for stuff that's listed as "slim mini" and you might save yourself some irritation.

I can say that the girl clothes for the DearMine minis absolutely fits the RS mini girls as when I was at Dollism with my friend, she bought one of the outfits from DearMine for her Rong and it fit beautifully.

 

Sweetvioletdreamse, it depends on which body you ordered your girl on. The single jointed Mei body is what Ya comes on by default I believe and it's very slim. I had a lot of trouble fitting my Mei when I had her. The double jointed Rong and Li bodies are also pretty slim, but I'm able to swap a lot of clothing between my other MSDs without much problems. As others have said, just search for slim mini and you should find a good variety. And don't be afraid to ask shop owners if the clothing will fit before you buy. Most doll seamstresses on Etsy know which dolls their clothes will fit or can take in a pattern if you ask.

As far as eyes go, 12mm or 14mm low dome eyes should work just fine for you. Happy shopping!

 

Hey guys, DDE let me cancel my order with them, so I'll be re-doing my order with Resinsoul directly. Is the [email protected] the email address I want to use to reach Sun? I'm hoping to order my blue Mei, but I think I want her to come with Rong's double-jointed body instead of her own.

 

On an entirely unrelated note, has anyone here modded their dolls eye sockets to make the eyes fit better? I find the gaps a bit annoying and I wanted to give her tear ducts in the inside corners.

 

I have modded eye lids and corners, I know that someone modded the orbits so that eyes would sit more flush in them.... I know she bought a special, doll specific, thingy that allowed her to sand the orbits to the size of eyes she wanted in the doll... I know who it is... but I can't remember her name atm >.< Sorry...
