Has a theme for the next Expo been decided yet?

 

Oh, that's awesome! I will be living in PDX by then and hopefully will have at least one doll.

 

Hyssop: That's great! We'll be happy to have you even if you don't have any dolls, though.

Darling Elizabeth: Yes, the theme is chosen, but it's not public knowledge just yet (we're still coming up with a slogan). Very soon, though. I will say that it is open to a great deal of creative interpretation.

 

I had such a great time at the first one that I really hope I'm able to make this one as well :-D

I am really excited about some of the contest ideas we've got. Staff can't enter, but there is at least one I plan to play along with anyway just for fun! The theme, which is BRILLIANT, is almost ready for the public reveal.
It's so hard to not just spill details. I have to stop typing or I will burst.

 

And there it is! The theme has been announced, "Dollpocalypse: the Resining."
I am going to try to create a Fallout (the game) themed display. If only I could remember where I stashed my Batchix 1/3 scale gas mask...

 

I'd like to suggest that photo ops be located on a table/tables top instead of the floor. It's really challenging to get decent angles with setup for a photo being on the floor. Just my 2 cents.

[h=2]Hotel Room Block Information[/h]The Resin Rose BJD Expo will be hosting a three day convention April 15 - 17th 2016 at The Holiday Inn by the airport in Portland, Oregon. The hotel features a free shuttle to and from the airport for your convenience. Near by are many shopping and eating options as well as an onsite restaurant and coffee shop.

Standard rooms will be $92 plus tax with our block rate. We have to fill a minimum number of rooms per our contract with the hotel, so please reserve your room with the block link available. The room block rates will be available three days before and two days after the show based on space availability. If the room block sells out fast, we will work with the hotel to try and secure more rooms. Reservations must be received by March 19, 2016 to count for the group rate.

It is highly encouraged to reserve your room early. We will work with the hotel to expand the room block if it sells out early; however, we cannot guarantee they will have the rooms available the closer we get to the event.

Early as it may be, registrations are already coming in. I am super excited. The timing that Fallout 4 will still be fresh on the market next April and that the Expo is post apocalyptic themed... That was not planned, but I like it!

I guess I'm a bit confused about the pre-registration process. After filling out the form and sending it in, do we pay the early bird price immediately, or is it a "pay at the door" kind of thing?

 

You get invoiced through paypal after you send in your form You have until the cutoff date to send in your payment. So if you send in your form right now you have until July 15th to make your payment.

 

Early Bird Preregistration ends in a couple days. You will still be able to preregister but the rates will increase-

If you had been trying to book a room for Resin Rose at the convention rate and it would not show up as discounted, try again! We sold out of our first room block so quickly, we did not know it had happened. We got in touch with the Holiday Inn and expanded out block, so you should be able to book at the discounted rate now. Don't forget to use our hotel code! (You'll find it on the same page as registration for the Expo).

I was at the first con earlier this year, and I had a lot of fun. I was really hoping to see what this con would look like the next time around, but I'm afraid the ticket prices are just too steep. I mean, I'm going to Sakuracon in March and even their at the door tickets are less than the earliest pre-reg tickets were for this con. I'm sad to say that this is too expensive for my friends and I to consider for only a second year con. I can understand that the con has it's reasons for making the prices what they are, but I wanted to write this here to give everyone something to think about for the 2017 Resin Rose. I hope everyone who's going has a ton of fun and sees awesome dolly stuff and enjoys some fun/informative panels, but I just can't justify spending that kind of money for a con that's still in it's experimental stages.

 

I am sorry that you feel the event is too expensive this year. We had to move a much larger place because we out grew our previous venue and it is no longer available for us to use. The new venue is very very expensive and we chose the least expensive hotel/convention space that was available. The Portland area only has a few options open to us. We have to base our prices on our previous year of attendance so we can at least break even. If we are unable to break even this year there will be no future events. Sakuracon and Kumoricon are able to keep their prices much lower because they have a higher attendance and more vendors that are able to attend. They are able to get hundreds of people to come. We are hoping for 150-200 people to attend RR.

I am sorry that you will be unable to attend this year. If we are able to hold future Resin Rose events I hope you are able to attend.

 

The price sounds reasonable to me considering the city-center location and the length of the convention. Of course, who knows how big the actual convention will turn out to be, but I think it's worth the chance!

@E-Beth you are part of what will make it amazing!

 

I really wish I could come to this, but the $90+ pass is way out of my con budget (I don't live close enough for the one-day pass to be a viable option). Maybe next year, or the year after that; everything I've heard so far sounds amazing, and I really wish I could go. But hey, that's how things are, and things will be even better next year.

 

My mom and I are doing a road trip up to Oregon in April. Here's to hoping I can make it to the con for a day at least!

We had a hat costume contest last year for people, but no one participated in it.
