Resin Rose Aug 17-19th 2018

Aug 30, 2017

    1. Yes, that is correct. Resin Rose BJD Expo IV is already signed and pending!
Dates are August 17th-19th of 2018. Hotel is the Monarch (as they were so at the last show) and the webpage is the same as well (you can find that here). The theme for 2018 is Science Fiction, and all that falls under that umbrella.

So, what are you going to do for this years show?

      • x 1
    2. Sign up as soon as I can, and save, save, save! I regret not saving enough! Sci Fi, is a personal favorite, so I also need to make plans for costumes!

    3. Aaaaah I'm excited (and having a whole year to plan hopefully will make for more success re: costume-making and with luck, a table). I'm really glad that the theme is Sci Fi, too! Looks like I'll be making Starfleet uniforms for the crew...

    4. Actually try and get there!! I've been wanting to go since the very beginning, but living in Australia and not having a job make it a little difficult to get to America. I am determined that 2018 is the year that I finally get to Resin Rose!
As for planning, costumes and also how to take as many dolls as possible on a plane

    5. @kurogane That was a quick first response! It's good to see someone else is already as excited as we are. Are you going to enter the costume contest? You have time to put something really grand together if you are of a mind to.

@Anneko I actually thought of you when Sci-Fi was picked. It made it easier for me to accept the vote, as I was dead set (pun intended) on a Haunted Dolls theme. I am itching to see your crew done up right.

@Hyperion It would be grant to meet you in person! Well, we have a year to plan and that's a start. (When I flew from Oregon to New York for Dollism, I disassembled everyone into ziplock bags to fit in my carry on. I got like 14 dolls in there.)

    6. Oh man, I hope I get to go next year. I totes want to make a cyberpunk themed doll for it now!!

    7. Resin Rose BJD Expo Preregistration and Vendor registration is now open!!!!!!!

Membership Registration Early Bird Pricing: (Prices increase Jan 1st 2018)
3 day membership including banquet $59
      2 day membership $34
1 day membership $24 (Saturday or Sunday)

Early Bird Vendor Registration starts at $155 a table (Price increases to $169 on Jan. 1st). Returning 2017 vendors will receive a $10 credit. We will also do a 4 month layaway with a 25% down payment.

If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected]

    8. Ah the weekend! It's time to get stripping the green alien girl no one remembers that I have. She needs a new dye bath and fresh face-up.

    9. @HiroKenzan I hope you make it, too. I've always adored cyberpunk but I am hopeless at accessorizing and can never make it work. I love admiring the work of others, though.

    10. Hey, so this is a little premature, but I was thinking about something and it won't let me go. Those of you that joined us for our second year might remember that we had a Family Reunion gathering for Haru Casting, Adori owners. There were treats (provided by Haru!) and group photos taken.
Between our Sci-Fi theme and the preorder for the Tamikan Space, tardigrade pet running right now, I thought we might have a family reunion for those. I know there will be at least three of them there (the planning comity for RR likes waterbears), so I figured maybe some of you guys will be getting them as well. What do you all think? Want to have a mini waterbear party at Resin Rose IV?

    11. OH MY GOSH I WISH I COULD GO I LOVE THOSE WATER BEARS!!!!!! :D so cuuuute!!! Ah that's a fantastic idea!! Awww dangit I wish I lived near there Dx

    12. Yay! A con in Portland! I will try to attend.

    13. It's update time! The coloring books we had last year were so much fun, we have decided to do it again. Not just the book, we are running the contest again, too. The top three entries will win three, two, and one day passes respectively. We are accepting art from now through the 15th of December. (You can enter as much art as you like, though you can only win once per person.) If that is of interest to you you can go here to get all the details.

    14. We also have digital copies of last years Coloring book contest available for download on our website as well. It is located on the contest page 2018 Coloring Book Contest.

    15. I'm soooo excited! RR 2017 was my first BJD convention ever and I had such a wonderful time! Its going to be hard to wait until next August.

    16. @Kingyo-Ningyo I know! Part of me wants it to be next week, and part of me wants an extra year to prepare.

    17. Donations for Resin Rose have started to arrive!!!!

      So far our sponsors are-

    18. Aww dang, I'm getting a waterbear but I live across the country... who the heck knows if I can go next year. XP

    19. Im so excited to go to resin rose!
Its gonna be my first convention about dolls and im making a custom handsome jack cosplay for my doll (including a mask). This is gonna be so much fun!

    20. I haven't been to a doll Con yet but I'm hoping to go to the PNW BJD Con and this one next year! Excited and curious to see what it'll be like.

    21. @Wolfie Pie Hopefully you'll be able to attend a future event :)

@OceanGarbage Yay, so glad you'll be able to attend!! I can't wait to see your cosplay for your doll.

@stelmaria We hope you are able to make it too!!!

    22. @Wolfie Pie : Tell you what, if you miss 2018, but can make 2019, I will organize a second Waterbear reunion.

@OceanGarbage : Borderlands for the win! I look forward to admiring your efforts. Jack is a jerk, sure, but he accessorizes well.

@stelmaria : I hope you are able to do both events, what a great summer that would be!

    23. So, I've seen Resin Rose things on tumblr and it looks fun, but I live in TX...Is this a big con? Is it going to be worth the hotel and plane cost? Are there panels? The only bjd specific con I've been to is BJDC and it was so small and so expensive I've only gone to the free sales days since.

    24. @Luciana Jellyfish We had 32 vendors last year and around 200 people including the vendors in attendance. We had a full schedule of panels including face up, doll mods, make and take deco desserts, real miniature food, sandal make and take, doll dying, felt animal making, photography, gel nail tutorials (I'm sure I'm forgetting other panels). We also had raffles with great prizes. We also have a dinner on Friday and a Swap meet on Saturday. We try to keep a full schedule with plenty of things to do for everyone.

    25. Thanks for the info!

    26. @Luciana Jellyfish You're welcome. If you have any more questions, please let us know :)

    27. We've extended the Coloring book due date until December 22nd.

Early Bird Registration ends on Jan 1st for both membership and vendor registrations. Registration will be open after this date but it will be at the normal price rate.

Please see our website resinrosebjd.com for more details

    28. Sounds interesting, I will have to see if I can come

    29. The early bird prices end today for membership and vendors. The prices will be the normal price starting tomorrow.

    30. Looking forward to vending here for the first time. We do clothing of the fantasy and 'geek chic' variety as well as one of a kind jewelry pieces. I have skirts and waist cinchers featuring Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who to name a few! Let me know if there's anything anyone would like specifically to see and I will do my best to bring it.

    31. @notkyleandtheelf Oh, you've got some cute stuff in your online shop! I am totally looking forward to seeing what you have at the con (especially anything you bring in the MSD range-- our household's doll gang ranges from puki to MSD-- and my sister particularly loves Star Wars, Marvel, and Legend of Zelda)

I've got to try and split my focus between prepping for this and for a comic/geekery con we have coming up first... but we're hoping to get more full outfits rather than separate pieces, and MORE JEWELRY! I'm bummed that I lost a lot of patterns I had been drafting/modifying digitally when I lost my old computer right before last year's con, which has slowed us down some, but we've got a lot of cute stuff from last year and I'm excited about all the new things.

    32. Is there an archive of photos or videos from past events? And are your events in the same place or do they move around each year?

    33. @HostileLolita Our event started at Portland Meadows on our first year. It was a one day show and we had around 100 people attendance including the vendors. It was mostly vendors, photo ops, raffles and a lunch. There is a video on youtube

Our second show was our first 3-day show held at the Holiday Inn by the Portland Airport. We had about 150 people in attendance. We had panels and classes that year. As well as a banquet and a vendor hall. We had a photo area, swap night, and of course, the vendor hall. Photos can be found on our facebook page Resin Rose BJD Expo

Our third show was at the Monarch in Clackamas Oregon, and it will be there again this year. That venue has been a great fit for us and we will most likely continue to have it there. We had around 200 people there last year. It was also a 3-day show that had the banquet, vendor hall with 32 different vendors, panel and classes, photo ops, swap and raffles. We also have photos on our facebook page as well as our website Thank You

If you have any other questions, just let me know here or you can email me at [email protected]

    34. So sad I won't be able to attend this year :( I had such a blast last year, I'll definitely be saving up for another visit hopefully soon!

Question, does one have to be a vendor or a shop-owner in order to donate raffle prizes? Or can anyone donate? Are there guidelines for what is/isn't allowed (I assume professional quality, but beyond that)?

    35. @InkyBear Sorry to hear you and your husband wont be able to attend this year. We hope you are able to join us for the next show :)

We accept any donations as long as they are doll related and nonrecast items. You can contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in making a donation or have any other questions.

    36. We are starting to announce some of our panels. We will have more to announce later once they are solidified but here are some of the confirmed classes and panels so far-

      1. Decoden Desserts Workshop with Jamie of Jamie's BJD Prop Shop.

      2. Beginner's Simple Sundress Make-and-Take with Anekochan

      3. 3D printing from A-Z with David of Synthetic Ephemera

      4. 3D Printer Basics with David of Synthetic Ephemera

      5. Faceups 101 with Amanda of Semiotic Kitten
A free panel for anyone who wants to know more about the basics for painting BJDs! This panel is geared more for beginners or those who want to learn more about faceups, as we will go over everything from popular sealants, doll-safe materials, to techniques and creating your “style”! (cost: free)
      6. Faceup Workshop: A followup to the Faceups 101 w/ Amanda of Semiotic Kitten
This is a workshop panel that will help walk you through painting your BJD! You do not have to attend both, but this will be where you will have the chance to try out everything we'd have gone over in the other panel Includes take home faceup supplies (contest TBA) along with access to MSC, and protective masks. (cost: $30)

    37. Ah! This sounds really fun. I'm new to this doll hobby, but I'd love to come! I've already ordered my first doll and she will definitely be here by the time the con is.

    38. @BitterKitty We would love to have you! Even if your doll isn't in yet, you are still more than welcome. A doll in hand is, by no means, a requirement to attend.

    39. The panels look exciting (if I get away from the table for them...)!

    40. We are selling out of 3-day passes quickly. We only have 15 left. Make sure to sign up soon so you don't miss out :)

    41. Updates:

We have 15 3-day passes left. We will try and make more room but we can't guarantee it as we have to discuss it with the hotel. We have unlimited amounts of 2-day and 1-day passes.

We have 20 tables left in the vendor hall

We have 15 swap spaces left. It is free to attend the swap meet but if you want to sell it is $10 per table.

    42. Will there be any type of faceup or costume contest this year? 8D

    43. @orangetarts We should be announcing contests soon but there will most likely be a faceup and costume contest this year :)

    44. Awesome! I better start painting then XD

    45. Updates are had!
The 2018 contests are up. We are staying with the basics of costuming, props, faceup, and photography. If you would like to learn more about the details you can find more information here.

    46. I have my 3-day pass! I'm disappointed I missed out on participating in the coloring book, but I'm really excited to try the contests. I really enjoy the subtler types of sci-fi--the kind that might get overlooked because it doesn't have a bunch of laser guns and hyper drives and "little green men" aliens, but instead explores how humans relate to technology or how society might evolve in the future. So that's what I'm aiming to bring to the convention in my doll arts and crafts. :)

I have a question about the costume contest: can a very tiny doll (<10cm) count as a "prop" (like a companion or pet) for a bigger doll? Not judged as its own entry, but as an accessory for the main doll's costume.

    47. @Kittzel We had a chat about your proposal and the answer is, "Yes!" You can only win one prize, obviously, but you can have two bodies in your presentation.

    48. Wonderful, thanks!

    49. We currently have 4 vendor tables remaining. (we have 28 vendors signed up so far, but not all of them are on our website until they finish paying off their layaway)

We have 7 3-day passes left

We have 14 swap spaces available (you only need to purchase a swap space to sell/trade) it is free to attend with a 3-day, 2-day or 1-day saturday pass.

Our room block is over half way sold out :)

    50. Huh, I might actually be in Oregon for this. I keep hearing about this convention, but never thought I might have a chance to go. Have to see my schedule of course.

    51. i'm saving up to come! it'd be my first convention & probably the first time i take my doll out on a lil trip! she's such a homebody, but i guess that that's my fault!

    52. is it pretty normal for people to not dress up their dolls / stick to the theme? my doll has a lovely outfit but i don't really have the funds to create another one for her, it's not quite her aesthetic either.. just wanting to know if i'd stand out

    53. You can dress your doll however you want. It doesn't have to be theme related if you don't want to :)

    54. Update:

We managed to expand room at the dinner by a few seats, but not by many. If you want a seat at the Friday night dinner, now is the time. Swap spots are also still available, but there are fewer than 10 remaining.
Register here (dinner passes and swap spaced included.)

Interest in the contests has been...less than enthusiastic. If you want to participate, please let us know. If we don't have at least five people pre-signing for a contest, it won't be held! (On that note; if a contest is declared ON, walk-in entries would be welcome.)
You will find more details on contests over here.

Most important; our room block at the host hotel is almost sold out. There are other accommodations in the area, but if you want to be at Ground Zero, you'll want to bespeak your rooms NOW.
Monarch Hotel information and our convention discount detailed here (Hint: our convention code is RRBJD18.)

    55. If you have a Tamikan Space, Tardigrade, we want to host a family reunion in the Craft Room! We don't have a time yet, though it will probably be sometime Saturday. Anyone coming to Resin Rose that has the Waterbear pet, let us know who you are. We want to gather as many as we can so we can send photos back to Tamikan Space.

    56. I hope the costume contest at least goes on! I'm really excited for that.

    58. So you don't need a swap space with a pass?

    59. To sell and attend the swap you need a 3-day, 2-day or 1-day Saturday pass. To sell costs $10 a table.
