Resin Rose 2021 Clackmas Oregon

May 3, 2021

    1. Im not affiliated with the con but am most likely going as long as the you know what permits. It was postponed last year and i was supposed to go then. Im just curious who is going, as Id be coming all the way from Florida by myself so i was curious who was going, if you had any plans before and after etc.

      so yeah... Hello!

    2. I've been waiting to see if it is going to be able to happen before I order a pass, I had just learned of it too late to go in 2019 and I live only half an hour away from the location :...( But I really really want to go

    3. I had planned to go to 2020 for the first time and bought my ticket in February 2020, so right before everything really hit with Covid. If it's not cancelled for 2021 I'm planning to attend this year. Could really use the vacation.

    4. I was looking for some kind of update of this, I'm planning on going! It's been 10 years since the last time I been to one so hopefully it won't be cancelled. I hear Peakswood is going to be vendor so that's pretty exciting! The other vendors I never heard of but looking forward to seeing it all.

    5. im within driving distance so id really like to go. ive never been to a doll con before so im pretty excited. im just waiting to see if it actually happens and if i feel like its really safe to go. oregon is tightening up pandemic restrictions after loosening up for a while so who knows where things will be this summer.

i hear the theme is fairy tales so if it does work out i have a character from a russian fairy tale in mind for a doll. ill work on her this summer and worst case scenario we just go take some nice pics by ourselves in a park somewhere!

    6. My 2020 pass was turned into a 2021 pass, and I'm anxiously watching case numbers and vaccination numbers. I would have to fly to get there, and my level of comfortability with the whole thing is strongly dependent on the likelihood of my vaccinated self picking up a dangerous variant from large numbers of unvaccinated people who choose to become variant production machines.

    7. I'm local enough it's not too much of an investment to drive and I'll be fully vaccinated well before the dates, so I'm tentatively planning for it. It's hard to really be concrete about gatherings at the moment, I think, so we'll have wait and see what the state/venue restrictions look like too. Worst case scenario, I'm hoping 2022 will happen...

    8. I plan on being there, would love to meet my BJD friends!

    9. My 2020 pass has also become a 2021 pass, and I'm local-ish and will be fully vaccinated, so I went ahead and got a hotel room just to not have to do the drive. I'm really looking forward to it! I figure at this point, worst case scenario, I'll spend a couple nights in a nice room and meet up with anyone else who's vaxxed and masked for whatever's allowed.

    10. Just got the email that it is cancelled and postponed to 2022. As much as I'm sad about not getting to see everyone's dolls I have to say.... yay. There are still so many unvaccinated people flying that I was not entirely comfortable with the idea of attending, and unhappy about having to choose between wasting all the money I spent on making my costume entry and being unsafe.

    11. I feel the same as Layn. Better safe than sorry in these uncertain of times.

    12. Better safe than sorry is right, though it is still a bit sad. I'm definitely not complaining by any means, mind, but I do hope by next year things look a little more optimistic than they do now.

From the sounds of it you might've been prepared for this, but you still might be able to get a cancellation depending on which hotel? I think the Monarch does free cancels, not sure if that's where you booked or not though.

    13. Yeah, I used the link so I should be able to cancel as part of the con's block... at some point when my people are fully vaxxed we can try and get a local outdoor meetup together, and just prep more to make next year the best con ever.

    14. i was born in PORTLAND, OR. and my parents used to take me to CLACKAMAS TOWN CENTER mall and the nearby TOYS-R-US all the time when i was a kid in the 80's. interesting to hear of events like this in my old hometown and surrounding haunts. how things can change...

    15. Erm, Clackamas has a Max Train now, easy to get to from airport or downtown. But wow, you wouldn't recognize Portland anymore for homelessness, graffiti, but I have faith we'll rebound in these parts... Vaccine is making good headway here in the Valley. See you there in 2022! It'll be my first!

    16. Back for a Seventh year, the Resin Rose BJD Expo is hosting another show! Resin Rose will return to the Monarch Hotel on August August 13th-15th of 2021!
If you have any trouble with the forms or don't hear back from us to confirm your registration, please email us at [email protected].

On the website it looks like they just moved the date, they did not cancel for this year. Party on, Garth!

    17. It's said that for the last year. Then they sent everyone with passes an email canceling it.

    18. Super bummed--this was one of two things I was looking forward to this summer... and the other was also cancelled--but ultimately I agree it's for the best. We've waited this long, not worth pushing the envelope at this point...

On the brighter side, this gives me more time to decide who I'll be bringing, and what they'll be wearing. Three teensy fantasy dolls have joined my crew since I originally got my ticket, and they'll be perfect for the fairytale them. Silver linings!

    19. Yeah I hope they update the website soon (even with just a "POSTPONED, DATE TBD" message)... they can't just assume that everyone has heard the news by now.

    20. I found the proper information on their Facebook page, but yeah, someone should be attending the main site. Oregon is almost to 70% vaccinated. I would have attended this year.

If anyone spots this post- never having attended a BJD con, I wonder how they do the fairy tale theme? Do peeps come dressed up? Do you present a diorama of dolls in fairy tale settings? I just don't know how it works.

    21. I went in 2018 as part of an outreach team for another local con (insert a mind blowing, horizon broadening, friend making weekend story here). I can give you some observations from whatever theme they had that year (I don't remember, honestly).

      • I do recall seeing a small amount of people in cosplay. It is a pretty small con. I think I could count on 1 hand how many cosplayers I saw.
      • I saw at least two lolitas the weekend I was there.
      • They had these open areas set up where you could display your doll dressed to the theme
      • They also had another area with backdrops and sets some folks had made. Some were to the theme, others weren't.
      • I don't remember the theme. I do remember being impressed by all the creative ways I saw people incorporate that theme into their dolls and overall weekend. At least I thought it was cool?

    22. I hope we peeps in the area might sponsor a meet-up; a hang-out, a show-up, whateva . Maybe a pretty park everyone can agree on. September is always lovely weather here in Portlandia. Oh gee, I'm a newb, but who's interested, for starters?

    23. So yeah, not my idea, but a good one!

    24. *meekly raises hand*

    25. if your local-ish, let's plan a meet-up in September.... So far it's fluffycorn and I... Let's pick a park!

    26. I think maybe we could take this to the meet-ups thread? How exciting! :3

    27. I'm in Salem, as well as a sister who'd be excited to come. It'll just be a matter of working out transportation.

    28. I'd love to come up! It's a 4 hour round trip for me so I'd need dates in advance so I can plan. Anxiety will get the best of me if it's last minute ;__;

    29. i would love to meet up with some doll folk outdoors! idk if anyone has any ideas but id like to suggest blue lake park as an option maybe? its large, lots of parking (i HATE looking for places to park lol) and some beautiful scenery.

    30. I'm a newb, but yes, I'm willing to head up a casual BJD meet-up for PNW dollies fans. @flufficorn suggested a lovely spot which is easy to get to by bus, but as I live close I know the sewage treatment plant gets stinky in summer, so I'm hunting another spot. Oregon should be fully open for business by then. How about the second weekend in September. Saturday or Sunday?

    31. My place was only a suggestion. :) There are lots of places we can meet that are free! :D

      • x 1
    32. @flufficorn im not seeing your suggestion. i think im so tired ive lost the ability to read! where were you thinking? definitely was not tryna step on your toes with my suggestion!

and i agree, portland has lots of lovely free parks, and august/september is just gorgeous here!

    33. I am realizing now (because am n00b) that the convo was private! But look, I made a thread!

    34. yay! i'll head over there right now. looking forward to it!

    35. I attended a few years ago when it was sci-fi themed. There's not a lot of human cosplay, since the focus is on the dolls and it's just not that big of an event, but you could dress up if you wanted. The theme really came out in the dolls on display for the contests, and themed merchandise people were selling, and dioramas set up for photos (there were also off-theme dioramas). Some people carried around thematically dressed dolls, others just had their dolls wearing whatever they would normally wear.
