Resin hooks?

Jan 7, 2020

    1. Hello fellow BJD makers!

I have a question. Would a resin hook be strong enough to support the elastics' tension? Or is it mandatory to use metal s-hooks?

And if it would be strong enough, would it be problematic to have the hooks "fused" to a part? (like fused to the hands, feet and headback, just having the "hooky" part stick out to attach the elastics coming towards them)

I would love my BJD to be as "self sufficent" as possible, ideally having only magnets to add.

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully taking the time to give your opinion on this!
      Have a great day/evening/night!

    2. dollmore kids have a resin hook for the hands, iirc they're attached to hand itself, and are covered up by a seperate ball part for the wrist. the feet are also the same, but use a metal hook glued into the foot instead. they're both pretty sturdy, and can take the tension of the elastic well, even when it's too tight or when you pull on the part with the hook.

i can take pictures of what it looks like if you're interested!

    3. Thank you @hellFlower !
      Cool!!

I wouldn't have thought that hot glueing the hook would be strong enough! Wow! Maybe the tension isn't as strong as we think?

Thanks for your answer, I'll try the resin option :D
Don't worry about the pictures, I've googled them, thanks!! ♥

    4. Some companies' heads have hooks or loops of resin molded inside the headcap to attach the elastic to (or to hook the s-hook to) instead of using an s-hook in the neck. RML heads are/were like that, so I should think the resin would be strong enough IF in a sufficinetly big body part for the hook to be of a fairly big size. I would htink that the smaller/thinner the resin the less likely it would be to hold (think how easily slim fingers and pointy ears are snapped).

    5. Thank you @Teddy !
Oh I didn't know of RML! That idea is so cool! Can't find the program though so maybe they don't exist anymore...?

Would you happen to have a link to some photos showing those resin hooks by any chance? I can't seem to find any on google >.<

    6. RML (Real Missing Link) are here: RML =REAL Missing Link= 2014 BJD NEXT STAGE

But I don't see any pictures of the inside of the headcap there - if I get a chance tonight, I'll take some pictures at home and share them with you.

    7. @Teddy Ah thank you!

That would be awesome if it's not too much trouble! ♥

    8. Sorry it's a bit blurry, but it shows what the hooks look like

    9. Awesome!! Thank you so much @Teddy this is very helpful ♥

    10. You're most welcome.

Some companies have loops instead of hooks but I can't remember which ones off-hand and don't want to go through all my olls taking off their gead-caps to figure it out....

    11. Haha no worries! This was already super helpful :)
