Hello all! I've been casting resin parts for a while, but I've been having a tough time dying my resin in a way I'm happy with. Have any of you had success dying larger batches of resin? I'm not looking to dye gallons or anything, but I'd love to get enough to cast an entire doll or two without worrying about color discrepancies. I've attempted counting drops per volume of resin on a smaller amount, but scaling up the ratios never seems to work correctly, and I don't know that I want to risk a large batch just yet. Do any of you have a system that seems to work? Also, do you have more success with specific dye brands?
Not something I've done myself, but I've been doing a lot of research into resin casting lately, and have read about folks who've had success adding the dye to one half in a larger batch (so you'd have a jug of, I dunno, Pinky Peach Part B or whatever, and untinted Part A). To get the colour correct, you can start by mixing in about half of the dye you think you'd need, mix up a small amount of both parts to test the colour, and then add more if you need to.
The first step is to learn which side you need to mix the dye into. Most resin manufactures specify which part of the resin to mix the dye into. For Alumilite you mix it into part A, but for Freeman you mix it into part B. step 2 is to figure out how much resin your doll will need including the air vents and pour spouts. add at leat 30 to 40% to your calculations for errors and "just in cases" then add the dye to the appropriate side and mix it in very thoroughly. The resin mixed from that batch should all come out the same color over several pieces cast
