Casting Resin casting DVD?

Feb 9, 2006

    1. I ordered it! Looks good and I'm an info freak :-)

    2. Tell me if it's any good!

I refuse to rest until I figure out how they properly cast the arms, legs, and torso! I have a couple of theories, but they all seem rather silly and don't follow the parting lines that I see on the dolls...

    3. I went back and ordered the supplies, too!

    4. Fun, fun, fun! Looking forward to it! However:) my projects don't often turn out like I planned.:)

    5. I got the video last night and watched it. It has a lot of info about mold making styles, casting, etc. I think it is well worth the money. Now I'm anxious to try something. :-)

    6. Oh! I am so glad it ended up being helpful! :D

    7. Are the video's on the DVD different from the freebie ones you can d/l on the website?

      http://www.hobbycast.net/video.htm

    8. The models they make molds of are different, more complex in some cases and the molds seem to be more professional. The company that made the DVD is affiliated with Hobby Cast, I believe but, no, the videos at the link are not the ones on the DVD.

They also show you additional techniques for pouring molds and the resin .

    9. Thank you for that info Maria. Would you say after viewing it, that there is enough instruction on the DVD that you could go ahead and make a mold of a bjd and cast it in resin or do you think you would need additional information? Do you have any sense of what it would cost for whatever supplies and equipment would be required to make your first doll? I want to try too!

    10. The items that are cast vary in type. One is a simple "block" with the mold in one piece. Another is a simple little model VW but is a 2 part mold. Another is an item with an "armature" inside, demonstrates clear rubber mold making. Another item is a hollowed out shell for a computer mouse.

None of them are molds of hollow items like doll parts. Unless you wanted to cast a doll and then drill out the places to string through, you would not necessarily use this type of information. A big doll would be an awful expense in resin, too, as well as being a waste to have to drill it out.

Maybe there will be something available later on for specifically casting dolls. I doubt if this company has any interest, though.

      Sorry:(
