Replacing Certificate of Authenticity?

Jun 8, 2025

    1. Long story short after getting my bjd back from my ex it was missing its certificate of authenticity. He wrecked the box as well but it's now in my possession and fortunately in usable condition.

Is there anyway to replace the certificate of authenticity? I googled it and found no answers. I'm assuming the answer's unfortunately "no" but at this point I'm just frustrated and hoping to minimize the damage to my pride and my doll's integrity, for lack of better word.

The doll is a Ringdoll Wo Long Military Version Fullset, and he has all his accessories otherwise (minus the hat, which I'm also a little peeved about, but oh well).

Editing to add: I have proof of my purchase from back when I got the doll, if that improves my chances at all

    2. I'm 99% sure the answer is "no", but you need to ask Ringdoll to get any real answer at all. It's up to them.

    3. Yeah, you'd have to contact Ringdoll. I've never heard of anyone successfully replacing a COA, but I've also never heard of anyone trying. I wonder if it really is just a matter of contacting them and offering proof? Though if you're just concerned about proving he's legit, I think you have enough to do so.

    4. Ask Ringdoll, but I doubt it. Your reason is very legit, but allowing it could make it way too easy for dishonest people to get one as well.

Considering you have the box, the fullset pieces and the proof of purchase from Ringdoll, I think that is plenty to prove legitimacy, and should you ever decide to sell him, be sure to offer the proof. I think the majority of people would be understanding, and it likely won't hurt your ability to sell him. Outside of sales, I've never been asked to prove my dolls are legit in 17+ years in the hobby, so I wouldn't even worry about that unless you're going to a convention or something that requires it. (And again, I think you have enough evidence to prove it anyway even without the CoA.)

Also, ask Ringdoll if it's possible to buy just the hat. It may not be, but it can't hurt to ask.

    5. I'd be more bummed about the hat and I'd focus on recovering that. COAs are mostly useful if you want to sell the doll but as others have said, your doll is a fullset and you have enough proof that it's legit as it is.

    6. Hello! I tried with another company.

In my case, I wanted to purchase a 2nd hand doll with fullset, company faceup and box. The owner showed me the CoA, but with blurred out order number and the order history.

But the seller wanted to keep the CoA, because she was afraid, someone could retrieve her personal data somehow, via the company.

The company told us, that this is not possible. But she refused, to sell with CoA. Although her address would have been on the parcel, right? The company stated that the doll is legit, because at that preorder, this skin tone was available and she was the only person, who ordered this particular tone.

But after all, the company told me, although the doll ist legit, that they can not send me a new CoA. Even a CoA, stating that this is just the copy of a CoA, but the doll is approved to be legit by company, was not possible for them to create.

I ended up not buying that doll. The whole situation was a bit odd to me.

    7. Very sorry to hear about your situation! There was a time before COAs were regularly provided at all. Even now, people misplace or lose them all the time. So if you're planning on selling the doll, I agree that the fullset would suffice if anyone had any doubts.

However, if it's just for sentimental reasons, you could make your own "coa" with any relevant information about your doll that you'd want to have on hand in the case you'd want to sell (order number, purchase date, etc). I'm not sure what Ringdoll typically includes on their COA and it would not be a good idea to copy it outright anyway, but if it can't be replaced and it feels incomplete without, that's probably the next best option since its easy to forget these details otherwise anyway.

    8. @madhatter! I think it would have been possible for her to ship the doll from a delivery point, which would have prevented a buyer form knowing her address, but I doubt it's possible to anonymise a parcel you send this way since it would enable all sorts of malicious intentions. Refusing to hand over the COA sounds fishy especially when the seller wants to deny any accountability so I think you did a good thing.

    9. @madhatter! That's a huge red flag! I'm glad the transaction didn't go through. That situation has a high probability of ending badly. Withholding a CoA in a situation that does not involve a split is more concerning than simply not having one.

    10. For a doll I was selling part of I laminated a copy of my invoice from the company and sent that with the doll body. It’s what I would try to do anytime I’m not sending the CoA.

    11. I've done the same as @Elomina when splitting heads and bodies, or selling event heads

    12. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, I'm no longer in contact with my ex. In this case I'd rather lose the hat or order a replacement from ringdoll than contact him at this time. It's also why contacting him for the COA isn't an option :/

That's a good idea! I don't plan on selling him at the moment, but as others have noted the doll feels a bit incomplete without it, and it sucks to have to part with it as it is, setting aside all the emotional attachments, the most 'irreplaceable' part of the doll. Ringdoll still sells the outfit for the fullset and the regular version of the doll, so I could functionally "clone" my doll if I needed to without issue, but the COA is the most complicated to replace.
