Aesthetics Repainted critique

Dec 7, 2018

    1. I'm not very happy with what I have done. I can't control how shaky my hands are and the lines turn out thick and not straight. I also realized all my brown pastel were red toned so I need to buy some that are not. If there are any helpful tips I would really love to hear them, thank you.

    2. I loooove the eyeliner and lower lashes on the first faceup. Those strike a nice balance between bold and soft, if that makes any sense? Eyeliner is something I struggle with. I'd like to see that head with eyes and upper eyelashes! Actually, your lower eyelashes overall look nice, I'm jealous!

A note on red-toned brown pastel: it's a great effect, and one I use exclusively for my auburn haired girl, but you can also tone it down with something that has some green tones in. I have a "Dark sepia" pencil by faber castell that might interact nicely for a more neutral tone. There are others, of course, that was just the first one I grabbed in my drawer.

    3. I also think the liner and eyelashes in the first faceup are really well done! If you're feeling your hands are a bit too shaky, pick up a couple watercolor pencils and try them out instead for lashes and brows. You can buy singles online at shops like DickBlicks.

As for pastels... you may have more options than you think! You can blend the sticks you have to make different shades. I use to shave mine into powder, but the way I work I found it best to just scrub them onto paper (even copy paper, lol) and blend them that way. Some colors I blend straight on the paper together in the same spot, but most of the time I scrub individual places and use my brushes to mix and dab colors. Pretty much exactly like a paint palette!

Experiment blending the colors into your reddish-brown to get a color closer to what you want. @rebeccag12363 is correct, start with a green tone to negate some of the red. Just have some color fun and don't be shy! ^__^

    4. Today I decided to repaint the head and I'm much happier with it. It's not perfect but I like it.

      Also redid the first head.
