So... I saved up for my first BJD, eagerly awaited her arrival and finally she came home this morning. With marks on her forehead and nose. I am devasted as this is a new doll but she IS my first and I dont know if these small greyish looking marks are normal in resin products? I want to try and fix her rather than contact the seller as the marks are tiny and the doll herself is gorgeous, can anyone help as to what I could do to remove them?
they're probably marks from rubbing against the box. ^^; Try a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser first, they get a huge chunk of marks off, even if you have to use a little elbow grease. If that doesn't work, nailpolish remover or acetone is your next best bet, but it will take off any coating and face-up underneath, so be very careful to only get it on the effect area. if it's still there, it's a stain, but that will come off with a very fine grade sandpaper. ^^ You can also post pics here for the experts to give more advice on. ^_~
Thanks I'm not entirely convinced it was the box as she had a plastic cap covering her face I'm in the UK and I don't think we can get Mr Magic Eraser and I have tried removing the marks this morning with no real avail. Does sandpapering not leave any unsightly scratches on the surface? I'm worried about using it as I dont want it to look noticable that I've sandpapered certain areas of her face.
Have you tried a little warm soapy water? The magic eraser is actually the white sponge that normally come with Volks dolls, is she Volks?
I have managed to clean her up quite well using the soapy water. The more I look at the doll and the more I've shown her to people I cannot help thinking I am just being a perfectionist, the marks are barely noticeable. I don't know if it is common practise to allow for a few tiny imperfections or not. She is a Serendipity doll btw
oh, i remember a post about another brand of cleaning sponge in the UK......goes to look found it: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13349&highlight=cleaning+sponge+uk
yeha the UK has a differnt brand... just look in your cleaning ilse for a white sponge type thing. if its from dollmore... im sure they would do somrthing about your marked doll. if its really that bad. i know how you feel. my doll went thru a tramatizing fae up and shes still not the same. and i cant wait till i can completely fix her again. id like to see pics of your dolls marks. moon has has some mysterious marks on her at times and i would freak out. but the magic eraser works fine!
I am going to go out tomorrow and see if I can buy one of these cleaning erasers, wish me luck! I bought my doll off www.dollndoll.com, I've spent all day making her look as clean as I possibly can and she no longer has the smudge on her nose (I had to result to sandpaper to budge that but it did a great job) the marks on her forehead are pinpoint tiny as are the others that I can spot in various places - they've cleaned up a bit but I'm hoping the sponge will sort out the rest of it. They are so teeny that the camera doesn't pick them up at all. She really is a beautiful doll and in spite of things I cannot bring myself to send her back because I waited so long to get her, so I'm just holding out that I can successfully sort out my other little niggles.
The tiny pinpoint dots might actually be iiitty bitty holes in the Resin... Odette has one on her toe. See it as a beauty mark??? ops:
oh my. this magic eraser works literally like magic. you have to push hards but the marks come off really fast!!
really? i've used a mr clean eraser and they are no trouble at getting marks off. just dip them in water and rub... but most of the time, it's getting scuff marks off my white walls in the house.
