So I really screwed up trying to do modifications to a factory faceup, and ended up having to wipe it. Multiple times, because it keeps looking terrible. I've noticed that now I'm at the point where because of the previous removals, there seems to be thin overcast of black paint that acetone isn't removing. What's the preferred way to get this off of a head?
stain by Cryptic Cryptid, on Flickr Terrible lighting and harder to see because of it, but it's most visible here around the eye-not blotches, but sort of an overlay. It's subtle but I'm concern about how it'll look on the body in comparison.
It looks like the black paint wasn't fully cleaned up on this photo. It's plausible because it's a tough-to-reach location. But if it's a film as you've said, it's possible that the paint has seeped into the resin material and caused a bit of a stain. This happens more often with darker colours, so black makes sense. You can try cleaning it off with a melamine (Magic) eraser. If that doesn't work, you can try either dipping the melamine eraser in a little bit of rubbing alcohol first before trying, or use a combination of toothpaste + baking soda and scrub that on with a soft-bristled toothbrush. I wish you luck!
Yeah I second SPhosphate’s comment. Whenever I’ve wiped old faceups I’ve noticed that dark paint can quickly seep into the resin when reactivated by acetone if you don’t wipe it clear soon enough. In that case it’s not truly dyed permanently, you may just have to do some rubbing with the acetone for a while. It takes longer than you might think. It’s hard for me to tell exactly what’s going on though, but I wish you luck ^^
